**** The Official ECU Class of 2017 Interview/Acceptance Thread ****

I interviewed mid-December and was told the first round of acceptances went out on Dec 3, so ECU had to give those applicants 30 days to respond. Did anyone hear anything on Jan 3?

Just curious, but does anyone know if from here on out the offers of admissions will operate only on a rolling basis or will there be a single date where a bunch of offers of acceptances will go out in addition to the rolling process?

Im guessing there will be one more chunk of offers and that everything thereafter will be rolling.

I had emailed ECU with some updated information about myself and the reply back said that they do not plan for there to "be any further admissions committee actions until late January at the earliest." Hope that helps everyone else waiting for more information.

Thanks for the info!

I know someone that received an offer from ECU today.

Did anyone get the "continuing interest" email this morning?

I got the "continued interest" email this morning. I feel like that is not that good of a sign....

When did y'all receive the "continued interest" email?

When is the last interview date for ECU?

Why did only some of us get it?? Why do you think it's a bad sign? I got it this morning at like 930.

It says on there they have interviewed "more than 50 people"... thats it?! Lol I thought it would be more like 200

Idk. My feeling is that if we already had an interview and they liked us and thought we were a good fit, shouldn't we have received an offer of admission by now? However, I tend to be a glass half empty type of person with everything in this admissions process so who knows.

To me it sounds like they are saying, "we are still interested in you, are you still interested in us?"

so what about those who did not get it? they aren't interested anymore?

Can someone who got the email post it for the rest of us? If you don't mind?

"At this time during the 2013 Admissions Cycle, we wanted to touch base with you regarding the status of your application to the ECU School of Dental Medicine. Just as you have applied to more than one dental school, we have interviewed more than 50 dental students and we need to check in with you regarding your continued interest in pursuing admission at ECU.

Currently, your application is under review by the Admissions Committee. Although we have extended a number of offers of admission, we are continuing to interview applicants and there are still positions available within our class. Knowing that some of our applicants may have already received and accepted offers of admission to other dental schools, we are requesting that you verify your continued interest in the ECU School of Dental Medicine.

Please know that we are not at the point of developing an alternate or waiting pool; the Admissions Committee is still considering candidates for admission. To notify us of your continued interest in ECU, please reply to this email and include your full name and “continued interest” in the subject line. We will need to receive your email no later than Thursday, January 17 in order for your application to remain active. On the other hand, if you have received an offer from another school where you plan to attend, we’d appreciate knowing that information as well.

We know that the admissions process seems long and protracted from your perspective. Please understand that the Admissions Committee is striving to make the best decisions possible within the context of a very dynamic process and a very competitive admissions cycle.

We are grateful for your patience, and appreciate your interest in ECU."

Thoughts anyone?

Thanks for posting it. It certainly doesn't sound like a bad news email. Now I'm freaked out that I didn't get one...

As far as the "we have interviewed more than 50 dental students" line, I don't think it means that they've only interviewed that many, I think it means that just like we've applied to several schools but could only possibly attend one, they've interviewed more candidates than they have spots in their class. I agree that it was phrased a little oddly, though.

Just checking to see if anyone who earlier had not received this message has since received it. I have to say, this is pretty intriguing.... Has anyone ever heard of other schools doing something similar like this sending out a message that isn't an offer of admission to only some people?

I also received the email this morning. I haven't heard of other schools sending out messages like this, but from what I gather from ECU is that they really like the keep their applicants in the loop about the timeline of everything. However, it may have just been easier if they didn't send this out to avoid all the confusion of it being good, bad, or indifferent.

Also, I forgot to ask earlier what people think about the linevthat says they have interviewed over 50 people. How is that possible? I know someone tried to expkain it earlier in this thread but thev wording in the email really makes it sound like they have actually interviewed 50...

I actually asked about how many people they were interviewing during this cycle and they put the number around 250. I remember thinking "okay, I've got a 1 in 5 shot, that's not too bad...."

I didn't get today's email but I was the one that sent an email updating them on my application changes about a week ago. I also stated that I'm still very interested in ECU so maybe that's why I didn't get one. I hope so at least :-/ I have no idea what this means 🙁 hopefully nothing...

Anyone else who didn't get the email today who recently sent ECU some updated info on their application?

Does anyone know the admission timeline as far as interview dates and possible dates of notification of acceptance? I know UNC and other schools list theirs on the web but I couldnt find the it for ECU.

If they are doing the same as last year, they should be interviewing through the end of Jan. Last year I was interviewed 1/24 & I believe the final date was 1/26. I also have not received the "continued interest" email. However, I have emailed them twice this week asking for advice on a masters program to which I was accepted, so they know I'm still interested. I haven't gotten any response or recommendation 🙁 Interestingly enough, Jan 17 is the date I must make the deposit if I will matriculate into the masters program.

I have applied to ECU the last three years..needless to say I think I've gotten the hang of how ECU does things. They don't really have set dates that you can expect to hear something by, its a dynamic rolling admissions process. For the most part it seems they let ppl know in batches though. The first year I applied I also recvd the 'continued interest' email and within two weeks I was waitlisted (others were accepted who had recvd this email). But this was around the end of feb/ beginning of march. So I think for those who got the email it just means we could possibly be the "next batch" and we could be hearing soon. For those who didn't get it, don't loose hope- there will prob be additional emails later. Don't lose faith--its not over till its over. I think this is the hardest part of the application cycle because, if you're like me, you are constantly second guessing yourself and obsessing about when you might hear something. This is my fourth application round overall and if I've learned anything it is that all that obsessing and worrying is wasted...yet here I am stalking sdn again..So, good luck to everyone in these upcoming weeks. For those who don't receive an offer, its gonna suck but let it push you harder to reach your goals!! Every failure is a step in the direction of ultimate success!

Did any of you that received that email have your interview after Dec 3rd? Or were most of you before that? Thanks

I didn't receive an email but I didn't interview till Dec 6th. Not sure if that matters or not....

I've read on here that someone in admissions told them that they won't be making any decisions till late January at the earliest. I also heard the same thing from contact with someone there. I'm hoping that we hear something in the next few weeks and not sometime in February! Since they just sent out that email to some of us, whatever it means, hopefully there will be some kind of decisions given out soon- whether acceptances, a waitlist, or rejections.

Coming from the past couple years, I'm pretty sure the last set of interviews are in February ... admissions are rolling... some people hear as soon as a week after their interview post Dec. And I'm pretty sure ADCOM meets again officially in mid Feb.

Don't quote me on all this, just what I think.

So does this mean that those of us who interviewed pre-December and didn't hear anything Dec 1st are probably not going to hear anything until after the next adcom meeting sometime in February or is it possible to hear something before then due to the rolling admission process? Thanks!
