I've been waiting to hear back from PCOM for two and a half months now, anybody else in the same boat as me who's been waiting for at least a month?

I've been waiting since September, I think? Very annoying. I honestly have no idea what there problem is.

You should call the admin office. The problem could be your application.

I waited for a while (several weeks) after I was told I was complete at most of my other schools before I called on 11/3 and verified I was complete. So since then I've been waiting a month. It's one of my top choices so I sent a letter of interest today.

Ive been waiting close to a month now. I called PCOM and was told my appliction is complete and under review. When I asked how long will it take for them to respond, the person said "You can expect a response anytime from now through March 2007". So I guess we will not find anything out for awhile.

I called this past week. They confirmed that I have been complete since October but told me that they can review and subsequently re-review your application throughout the process...ie, you may not hear from them until April. It's a little upsetting, but they are a prestigious and selective school. And from what I've found, their averages mean zip, because they truly do look at the whole application...

Best of luck!

I've called several times, and each time they tell me my application is complete and I can hear from them anytime between now and April.

i'm glad to hear ccom is not the only one taking forever...😳 i wish they would all just tell us now 😉

Unfortunately I have been waiting forever also. I have been complete since August! 😕 I have had 6 interview invites so far, but nothing at all from PCOM. Oh well, I need to move on 😳

haha. this group is making me feel better - i'm not the only one! and i've had heard all of the same from calling admissions. i even try to talk to different people, but they don't budge! we'll just have to wait and see.

Hey watch it there.....Don't knock my school. I know where you live! 😡

On a serious note, they do take a longgg time. I remember being complete last year in October and not getting called for an interview till February. Keep in mind, this is after every single DO school I applied to had already interviewed me. They are very wierd in their selection process. I would equate their selection to being very similiar to the allopathic schools.

If you speak to Taus, he was accepted to 4 allopathic schools and I believe was interviewed late by PCOM. My apologies to Taus if I am incorrect. Either way, PCOM can be odd like that.

Good luck guys with a special :luck: to musiclinks123

Sorry 😳

Apparently applications have gone up by 14% or something

Wow....Is this ever going to end? Soon Osteopathic schools are going to get as many apps as MD schools. I remember Dr. Schure saying there were 17 applications per spot for the class of 2010.

Aren't you a sweetheart 😛 If I could have some of the luck that you had last year, all teh better for me. So if you were complete in October, and got called in Febuary, then I should get called in January. But they really are being annoying. Sorry if I'm knocking your school, but damn it, they're taking too long.

Oh well. Now it's time to forget about PCOM and try to figure out where to put all my new clothes that I just bought from the mall. ANd you may know where I live, but you don't know exactly where I live 😉

I just had an interview at NYCOM and all of the other interviewees haven't heard from PCOM either.

Dang i'm really feeling for all you guys. Its not like PCOM isnt looking at applications or interviewing. They have interviews on mondays, wednesdays, and thursdays and they are all pretty packed with applicants. (roughly 10 or more people in the fishbowl)

They should have a stack of applications from solely SDN people. 1st dibs.

this is getting frustrating

Apparently applications have gone up by 14% or something

Applications everywhere have gone up 14%. It is mostly due to applicants applying to more schools, and only partly due to a rise in applicants.

this is getting frustrating

Your mdapps says that you withdrew from PCOM anyway. Is that not true?

So if apps went up do you think there was a rise from the 2005 entrance number in BOTH OOS and in-state? I'm gonna be sad if the percentages interviewed/accepted has gone down significantly.

2005 Numbers (in 2006 Ultimate Guide to Medical Schools by USNews)

  • Avg GPA: 3.23 (can this really be right!?)
  • Avg MCAT: 8.3 (~24.9)
  • Overall Acceptance Rate: 10.8%
  • In-State Acceptance Rate: 42.9%
  • (Calc'd In-State Interview Rate: 55.9%)
  • Out-Of-State Acceptance Rate: 5.4%
  • (Calc'd OOS Interview Rate: 7.9%)
Here's the raw data:

Fall 2005 applications and acceptees

Applied Interviewed Accepted Enrolled

Total: 3,825 568 414 266
In-State: 553 309 237 161
Out-of-state: 3,272 259 177 105

***Note: The rates are dependent upon ALL applicants who submit AACOMAS applications. A small but significant amount of applicants, particularly out-of-state applicants, likely did not finish their secondary application. Thus, the actual acceptance rates from the "application complete" applicant pool may be depressed as represented here.

As noted on PCOM's website (http://www.pcom.edu/Admissions/adm_FAQs/Adm_FAQs.html):

In 2004, the entering D.O. Class of 2007 consisted of 254 first-time students from 136 different colleges and 27 states. The average class GPA was 3.38, the science GPA was 3.45 and the mean MCAT score was 24.

What puzzles me is that this is the 2004 profile as self-reported by PCOM. Why would they accept lower stats the following year in the USNews data? Do school websites inflate their scores?

At any rate, I emailed admissions back in August and they told me that an applicant can be competitive with over a 3.2 cum/3.2 sci so that gave me some worry. My 3.24/3.035 probably isn't helping me any, but I thought maybe the 32 MCAT would help...blah.

At any rate, I was speaking with someone about this last week. We attempt to make a rational process out of an inherently irrational and subjective one during this whole thing. It sucks but these numbers may mean exactly nothing when it comes to our own personal situations.

I'm happy to see many of you in the same situation as me.

I've been waiting since early September when PCOM sent me a letter notifying me that I was complete. I have lately been thinking that I pissed them off in their supplementary essay by forgetting to change "CCOM" to "PCOM". I really hope I didn't do that.

Is PCOM considered prestigious? I mean I know it's a good DO school, but I guess I never thought of it as "prestigious."

It is one of the oldest schools, it is in a major city, and it has an extremely high specialization rate for any med school (MD or DO).

I've been waiting forever also..been complete since August..called a few times to double check...I guess patience is a virtue..even though during this process it drives us all nuts

yeah I put it there bcs if I didn't it would have said that I was rejected I didn't withdraw but I wasn't rejected either I'm in limbo right now and I couldn't figure out a way to express that on mdapps

Just leave it as secondary submitted "received/submitted secondary". That explains it right?

Im in the same boat. My "complete" letter was dated September 9th. Very excited to have a spot at OUCOM and I think it would take A LOT to convince me to drop it. Still, Id like to see what the school is like. Plus an interview would be an excuse to visit Philly for a few days.

I feel for you guys. I know how frustrating it can be to wait on PCOM admissions. I love PCOM and many of the aspects about the school but I must say that dealing with the admissions office has been difficult to put it nicely, esp compared to other institutions I have applied to. With that said, the positive aspects of the school FAR outweigh the problems with the admissions process and it is all worth it if you are fortunate enough to get in. I imagine the interview invites will pick up after the dec 15th deadline for the first deposit. Best of luck to everyone and Happy holidays!

What did they do that was unprofessional?

The admissions director was up there speaking to the audience at the podium and she was chewing gum, and leaning all over the podium. SHe was just acting like she didn't want to be there. She even said, " Immmm tired, I jsut want to go home." as an excuse that she wasn't that enthusiastic. That was probably the biggest thing.

Well, slouching, tired, unethusiastic, gum-chewing admissions director or not, I'd still accept an admissions offer from PCOM in a hearbeat!

Me too, I'm with you on that!!! No doubt!!!

As far as reputation goes, you probably cant beat it. Something about that open house tho just made me cringe.

thats funny, because I thought that attitude made her more "real", if that makes sense. It was late, and everyone, including the audience and staff was tired. They didn't have the uptight, we are better than you attitude. And Ms. Williams (the assistant dir of admissions whom you're referring to) was REALLY nice if you took the time to talk to her later. She made sure anyone who wanted to talk to her got the opportunity to talk to her. Wit that said, I am one of those people waiting to hear back from them as well....good to know there are more of us out there 🙂

I agree she was nice that day. I talked to her afterwards. She told me to call her on Monday to talk. I called and left her a voicemail. She then called and left me a voicemail back saying basically " you dont need to call me to ask about your status, you can ask one of the secretaries that." Boo!

I agree with you about the open house, just something about it was a bit off. I dont know what to compare it to because thats the only one that I have been to though and these things just might be like that in general.

I read that PCOM is having an admitted student luncheon this coming Friday. I'm surprised that they're having an event like this early in December. They must have admitted a whole bunch of people already to make having something like this worthwhile. I hope it doesn't mean they've already filled a large portion of their class. 🙁

Has anyone heard of anyone getting a recent interview invite from PCOM? I'm just wondering if the interview invite process is slowing down given the upcoming holiday season.

PCOM is definately still interviewing.

It seems I have become the official "If I havent heard from PCOM lets PM JPHazelton and see what he thinks" outlet.

Thats fine...just FYI...if youre going to PM me asking for advice, help or to shadow me on campus...please do it in a nice way. 😉 One person was a little whiny and thats not the impression you want to give people when you are looking at a school.

Now...the ass kissing I WILL accept.

Point is, PCOM interviews into the spring. Through March I believe. Interviews are not necessarily first come, first served.

My best advice is to stay in touch with the school and keep them updated with anything new you are doing...especially volunteer work.

And again, please dont PM me with your "stats" asking why you havent gotten an interview, why you havent gotten a secondary and to proofread the letter you want to write.

I have fulfilled my personal quota of recommendation letters for the year.

👍

HHAHA  JP you are crazy. See you in OMM lab tomorrow.

I am in the same situation that everyone else is. I have been complete for about two months and when I check on my status, they just tell me that I am complete and that I have to wait and see what happens. I wanted to look at the school because it has such a good reputation, but at this point I think I am just going to withdraw. I have to send my deposit to DCOM next week. Oh well...😳 🙂

DoctorMom,

I say don't withdraw, although that narrows the applicant pool for me.

JK

Anyway, I know you ahve to pay your deposit, but in the grand scheme of things, losing a deposit isn't a big deal in all of the enormous debt you're going to have. Worst thing that could happen is you turn down an interview (from PCOM or elsewhere). You may decide two months from now that DCOM or NYCOM (knock on wood) is the wrong choice for whatever reason. Wouldn't it be nice to have the possibility that these other schools might fit you better at that point? You've already paid the money for the applications, I say don't withdraw.

BTW, I'm right there with you and I am in-state and feel tha tPCOM is my first choice for DO and would choose it over many MD programs (not PSU, but that's just bc I bleed blue and white).

I already withdrew from several schools: UMDNJSOM, VCOM, and WVSOM. Losing the deposit really is a minor issue. It is REALLY hard to go on interviews because of my children. I left my applications in at PCOM and UNECOM. I am not thrilled about living in Philadelphia, but left my application in because I heard it is a great school. UNECOM was one of my original top choices and hopefully I will get to interview there. But, it does seems silly to waste the time and money on more interviews when I have an acceptance at DCOM and PCSOM and an interview at NYCOM. I think I will leave my application alone and not withdraw for another week or so and see what happens, but after that I probably will. Not only is it hard to go on interviews with children, but I will need to do an enormous amount of packing and planning to move my family. I want to get started on that as soon as possibly. Besides, I genuinely love DCOM. Anyway, thanks for the advice. Somehow I think my withdrawal will have little impact on the applicant pool. Either way, good luck to you!!!:luck: 😀

Wow! I can't believe people are actually doing things like that! The lengths to which some people will go to try and get a leg up in the admissions process. Incredlble! 🙄

By the way JP, your dry cleaning will be ready tomorrow and I should finish detailing your car by this afternoon.

Not too much starch. 😉

I have someone else visiting this Friday. Seems like a nice person.
