race traitor can't exist unless the race is alraedy doing something horrible.
If Korean race is trying to isolate others and make their own society in SDN, i have to support all the other races except Korean and become racist against my own because I belive that is the right thing to do.

making a thread to see which person who has a similar background as you are going to school is what you call horrible? mannnnn im not even korean and im annoyed by this stupidity.

A fellow Korean student here.

I don't know why joonkimdds is labeled as a racist here.

His point is that this thread is an example of how Koreans segregate themselves from other ethnic groups. It happens everywhere. High schools, colleges, and even forums like this prove that.

His argument is that there shouldn't be a need for an ethnic group to segregate itself from other groups.

I do understand that the original poster simply wanted to know where fellow Koreans were going for dental school though.

if there is 1 korean patient and 100 patients from other countries, I will definitely go ahead and help those 100 patients.

and Look how many of SPECIFIC RACE thread was made after this? 4!!! in 1 day! in this peaceful SDN!
why couldn't u guys see it coming???
why couldn't u guys think of how others feel??

It's different from predicting our future or having a future sight! we should be mature enough to predict how others feel though.
I do understand that this thread didn't directly point at racism but shouldn't u expect this side effect already?

and if 1 korean who is about to die and 100 patients thats fine....i bet you still do the same

I think joonkimdds did go too far on that word choice.

I'd like to elaborate on his comment about how Koreans are racist and rude.

Having lived in South Korea, Japan, and the United States, I kind of see joonkimdds's point.

What I gathered from my own people is that we are, a lot of times, direct and blunt. We speak our minds freely, sometimes without giving the subject a needed thought. We're not afraid to show and express our thoughts and feelings, which sometimes results in needless tension and misunderstanding. An example from my life is how a person who knew my family member asked if he could send his daughter to the United States from South Korea to stay at my house and attend a school here. He just called my dad one day all of a sudden after talking to my relatives in South Korea. (I understand that this is just an extreme example.) There's also the stereotype of "Korean time." Those are negatives. We basically have a fierce personality. And that can be good. We have amazing pride in our heritage, treasure tradition and respect the elderly, and work tirelessly with a never-say-die attitude. (I believe it's because of kimchi 😀.) Its positivity or negativity depends on how people interpret it.

Japanese people, on the other hand, are indirect. They rarely express their feelings right away. For example, a Japanese person might walk into a restaurant and mention how hot the weather is. This could mean that he's discreetly asking the owner to open the window. There's basically like an unwritten code of conduct. They consider the opposite member's feelings and positions first, acting based on what the other would think of their actions as "appropriate." Again, I may be using bad examples. It's a bit hard to express what's in my head thoroughly with words... especially in English.

What I said isn't completely right. There are always exceptions. For example, my 6th grade teacher in Japan was an old dingus. He beat me and my friend, who was half-Korean/half-Japanese, all the time for stupid reasons. I think he had a grudge against Koreans from WWII. I heard that he got fired after I left Japan though. So it's all good.

There are considerate Koreans with cool temper. There are flamboyant Japanese people with bombastic personality.

What I mentioned here are simple characteristics that apply to both groups a lot of times.

I guess that answers the part about Koreans being rude.

Koreans being racist... I thought I covered that on my previous post. I guess joonkimdds thinks that segregating ourselves from other groups and selectively choosing to prefer our own kind lead to racism.

I don't have any problem with Korean students here, except they speak Korean in public. It is fine to speak Korean when there is no other race around them. But when it comes to speaking in public, it can definitely make other races think Koreans are rude as they have no idea what Koreans are talking about. And I see a lot of Korean people speaking Korean in front of or near the American.

I am a Korean American myself too, but I don't speak Korean to Koreans in public or when there is American around me 🙂

Sorry for making you misundetstand my point. I should revise Koreans to Korean students in the United States lol. As you can see, there are some Korean students who say bad things about others in Korean in front of them since the others don't understand Korean.

it seems to me like you are hiding your culture and trying to be 'mainstream'... i speak other languages other than English and most of my friends do..never has any one of us felt weird or it was rude... obviously if i'm speaking to someone in a different language i'm not talking to them...they understand that and at the end they might be like what were yall talking about... i tell them and we move on... we even teach each other how to speak our different languages and try to broaden our horizons... we discuss stereotypes ppl have for our specific cultures and try to be more intuned with our fellow man

It might seem that way to you. But I didn't mean hiding my culture or anything. My ethnicity is Korean and I speak Korean too. But that doesn't mean my culture should be Korean. I love Korea too, but my nationality is American so America comes first before Korea to me.

Don't agree with not speaking korean....Who cares if someone speaks korean, japanese, chinese, or anyother language.... Maybe they just feel comfortable speaking their language....nothing is wrong with koreans speaking korean to another korean...

Me too. But some people might get offended because there is possibility that some of other language speakers say something bad about them in other language they don't understand.

well, I just don't understand how a thread wanting to know people from similar backgrounds was turned into a flame war.
This thread is not much different from "Where do people graduated from UCLA get accepted to?" <-- example
People that did not graduate from UCLA might feel isolated and separated, but is it too wrong to have the post like that? Would it be based as this thread was?
Hmm, something to ponder eh?

-edit-
those of you who think a thread like this shouldn't exist might want to re-evaluate your self-identity. You might be having a crisis in identifying yourself among your friends that are not from your ethnic groups. Some people take on every negative feedback they receive about their own ethnicty from their friends, etc.
Also I'd like to point out that I see a thread like this on some other ethnic groups as well.

u koreans r so racist, that's why people hate korean people.

Dude, please STFU! 😡

I never made this thread to be "racist",...you're just paranoid. You sound like those self-hating Asians I've come across.

I just wanted to dedicate a thread to all Korean and Korean-American pre-dental students congratulating them on where they are going for dental school.

Is that a problem for you? How come I don't see you whining about other ethnic dental threads on this forum?

This thread has nothing to do with segregating Koreans from non-Koreans.

It's just a thread devoted to knowing who is Korean and which dental school he or she is going to attend next year.

I also doubt joonkim is Korean or an Asian.

If I recall correctly, he made a racist insult in the DAT section on a Biology question asking the penis size of males from different races. This guy simply turns on my troll radar!

ahahahaha this guys got problems.....he probably dont have friends of any race at all!!!!

I am mixed Korean and Japanese. Korean from my mother's side.

I think this thread is NOT racist as joonkim has mentioned it to be.

joonkim sounds like those self-hating Koreans, just like nobletooth has mentioned.

Let's just 왕따 joonkim. !!! 😀 k LOL!!

Hmmm, is this the penis size thread joonkim posted a while back in the DAT thread?

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=309604&highlight=penis+size

He must be some kind of gay loser to make up that stupid question when it's obvious the DAT doesn't ask that kind of stupid question.

Just look at the follow responses joonkim makes in that thread. To me, he doesn't sound like a Korean guy. Like I said, a typical self-hating Asian.

Wow... personally, I found that thread hilarious and entertaining!

I enjoy reading threads on SDN...no matter the affiliation. Can you please post translations with your Hangul (sp?). 😀

this thread has so much drama.

More drama than a filipino soap opera. There, I brought a new race in the picture. I'll prepare to get crucified now.

haha. filipinos dont need soap opera for drama. we have that already in our own lives. lol

It seems like Joon's argument has lost its point... poor emotional guy.. 🙁

We do not need to waste our precious time.... Amen..

P.S.: Dear Joon.. I have no problems getting along with white, black, hispanic, and asian American friends..

Please be yourself.. You do not have to hide your culture and language just to get along with your non-Korean friends...

A good friend should be able to understand your ethnic group no matter who you are..

AND I BELIEVE THAT IS THE BEAUTY OF LIVING IN AMERICA...

so please... my dear korean friend... be quiet now...

haha. filipinos dont need soap opera for drama. we have that already in our own lives. lol

Pretty much... family drama is the worse, I think. The entire he said, she said business is really bad... and I also don't like how everyone is all up in your business.

Possibility
1. went to Korean Elementary or middle school and got bitten up by the classmates... ended as wangtta 왕따... this happens to less than 1% of the whole student pool...rare...
2. His Korean friend stole his college tution and flew back to North Korea...
3. He is half/half.... half Korean and half another race... and he did not like his life experience in Korea...but liked the other half....

For Joon's benefit...
If Joon is not a Korean American and must go to the military... he is in deeep ****... I would suggest u not to go to the military... stay in the US cuz people like u would suicide and kill your comrades...
Do not go back to Korea but live in the US.... IT IS GOOD FOR U WITH YOUR HEALTH BEING...MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY...
Hope u do not go to the Korean military...
Additional Info- All Korean citizen male above 18 years old must serve in the military at least 24 months.... but the law is changing so it might be 18 months...

They are only closed if they are about white people. We are the only ones that are not allowed to have an identity.

It says, "Joonkim or whoever he is, bully that bastard!"

How sad for Joon. Any and all asian alphabets trip me out. I think its amazing that you can look at those little figures and actually process the information. I guess it's like anything if you grow up learning it, but I still think it's cool. Can somebody write "Life is good" for me so I can put it in my signature....And please don't write something like "Hello, I am a stupid cracker. Please make fun of me."

Thanks. 😀

Merry Christmas and Happy new year~~~! 😀

I ate a whole pig last nite for Christmas.. 👍

And...

새뱃돈들 많이 챙기셔요.

and. for Quack~! I think I am hot. no doubt about it.

hahah that translation is very funny
obviously I dont expect that automated translator to do a good job.

I ll tell u..

the first one is LG in Korean, written as it sounds... This came from the ad of LG (korean company) .. u know.. " Life is good" LG.. if u ve seen this 😀

this translation is funny because it s spanish and english mix. L = El, which is Spanish article for male nouns. and G as it sounds, means mouse

and lucky venus is the older name of that company before it changed its name to LG

the last one.. I wrote "life is good" in korean alphabet as they sound.

life is exorcism?? hahaha whatever... dont use that "translator" ever again. It s really bad.
😀

I prefer watching my Korean drama than reading this drama 😛

I'm watching Goong at the moment. Me like it 😀

P.s.- I'm not Korean, but Korean guys are hott 😍

haha hey life, it would be like 인생은 좋다 with the direct translation, but
people often use 인생은 아름답다, which means life is beautiful.

This is not very cool. Joon is entitled to his opinion of threads like these. Albeit his opinions are often strange, verbally beating him does bring anything valuable to SDN. Simply ignoring posts like his in this thread will preserve the integrity and viability of the thread and some useful information might actually be exchanged. Otherwise it will turn into a Joon bashing frenzy and get closed by the mods. So let's all play nice 👍
