*** The Official LECOM Class of 2020 Interview/Acceptance Thread ***

We should do a head count of how many SDNers are in the wait list lol
I wish more people were on here! I think there's only like 600-700 ppl on SDN so it's such a hard way to tell anything based on our numbers. I think there's like maybe ten or so waitlisters left on here that didn't get accepted. it doesn't seem like many posted about their status this time around

500?? that seems like a really large number
I probably got the number mixed up with the number of people interviewed... Looking at the LECOM 2019 forum it looked like 150 were on the waitlist in March.

Sorry if I freaked anyone out... I should do some more research before I post on here :blackeye:

I just found the LECOM-ALTERNATE/WAIT-LIST page. I had no idea this existed lol maybe if we can get more of our fellow waitlisters to go on there, we can get a better idea of how many there are

There were only like 550 people that interviewed at LECOM last year according to DocToothache's guide. I'm guessing the number on the waitlist is much much lower. Anyway, I'm flying in next week for an interview. So excited! I'm looking forward to seeing the facilities, anyone going to be there January 14th?

i bought the ADEA Guide book for last years class aka class of 2019 and LECOM interviewed in TOTAL 586 people. there were 3,157 applicants in total. Its HIGHLY unlikely that 500 people are on the waitlist it just doesn't make any sense. I would recommend that you guys buy the ADEA guide book its only 15$ for the online version and it literally has a breakdown of everything for each school!

I interviewed December 17th and am waitlisted.

How many people do you think are on the waitlist and how many seats do you think are taken so far you guys?

wait listed here too. pre-dec interview. No change in portal... the wait continues..

About 50 people have paid their dues and are accepted. And next wave is Feb 4th on a Thursday.
Lisa told you this? wish we knew how many acceptances went out this time like we found out last month lol would be easier to gauge our odds for February!

also...did anyone else send a letter of intent?

I sent a letter of intent out before the Jan 5th date.. and also sent one out right after my interview haha overkill maybe.

I didn't even think to send out another! I sent one after my interview. but I went back and forth with Lisa yesterday explaining how much I want to be in their program since I had a huge scare on Tuesday with my status changing to "withdrawn at applicant's request." even after she told me it was resolved I got an email about it! I was so afraid they thought I wanted to withdraw the past month so I explained how they're still my first choice 🙂 she's like don't worry I have your letter of intent in your file lol

Thats awesome. I was a bit scared too on Tuesday so I can only imagine waiting for an e-mail and receiving that! Luckily I had my good friends remind me that we have a good bit of time on our sides. At least two months before things become bleek. so hang in there guys!

my heart dropped when I saw that & the fact that Lisa wasn't going to be in the office for a few days make it worse! but she took care of it thankfully. I was hoping they meant to put offer made because, from what I read on here, it seemed like only people who got accepted had their status change from waitlist to a decision has been made on Monday night. but Lisa confirmed I'm still on the waitlist :/ & I agree we do still have time. when I went for my interview, the freshman who gave us a tour told us most of his classmates were from the waitlist, including him. hoping a lot of people from this round of acceptances also declines!

I did the same thing haha one in August and one after I was wait listed in December.

That's great! I emailed her Tuesday and I haven't heard back from her 🙁

hmm I wonder why. she first emailed me early Wednesday and throughout the afternoon she was emailing me back within minutes. maybe try emailing her again

I just interviewed today, and according to the stats that they have told us, there are currently:
40 confirmed acceptances
80 on the waitlist
D1 class size is 101, and they can take up to 105 applicants.
Next round of acceptance is Feb 3rd by the time Lisa leaves her office.. (4-->6 pm EST)
They are expecting that some of the confirmed seats be withdrawn as well..
I hope this helps you guys and saves you some counting..
Also, there were 2 people that didn't show up today, so only 22 applicants..

I think there are still pretty good chances!
Good luck to all of us....

So do I! I'm sure the acceptances increased a little on Monday though, I think they only count confirmed acceptances once you pay your deposit and I don't think everyone from Monday has paid theirs. But still, way more helpful than I was before.

does anyone know how long after acceptance it takes to receive the letter in the mail and matriculation form?

why don't you call Lisa? I believe it should take at least 5 business days if its standard mail..

Rumor has it that over 70% of the first graduating class failed their typodont clinical boards. I have an interview at LECOM in 2 weeks and reading that made me seriously worried. Anyone have any input/thoughts on this?

A bunch of people fail it, from any school, I have a few friends from UF who failed it. I also assisted at the licensure exam and the amount of people who failed was impressive. Even dentists who had been practicing for over 20 years failed.

So you're saying it's fairly normal? Just 70% is a high percentage, and I'd like to think a school you're spending tons of money prepares you for your career. I'm definitely going to feel things out when I go down there, but I like to hear others thoughts on this.

Where did you hear this information? Do you have a link to support this? I tried searching online but can't find any information on their pass rates?

I've read it on SDN. Its in the first couple threads, with a couple people confirming it. I always take things on here with a grain of salt, but that statistic shocked me.

Listen, let me tell you something. I have been in an international dental school for approximately 4 years before I relocated here.. Any school (regardless of how new/old it is) will offer you whatever you need (and more) to become a successful dentists. However, you learning the techniques, and doing a lot of practicing is something that is completely up to you. For example, you will get to learn how to do a class I amalgam restoration. You will get the chance to do a couple of those restorations at school (maybe more). But, someone who wants to practice more might think of buying a low motor contra at home with some acrylic teeth and do 20 more of that type of restorations. same thing like when you were in your undergrad, the same professor will give you the lecture, one might skip the class or go and sleep, another might record it, pay extra attention, take really good notes, read the textbook and go to office hours. its the same lecture, but its always up to the student to do well or no. We are not in the 70s! If you missed something at school, you'll find millions of youtube videos to help you. I'm not saying that you should this all the time considering that LECOM is pretty expensive, but it is always an option.
I highly doubt that this information is true, but even if it was, the school has little to do with it. Also, considering the fact that LECOM is pass/fail, a student may have passed a class, but he just had the passing grade (he wouldn't know), in a harder test he might not! What i'm pretty sure about is that 97% of the students passed the board exams(which is a much higher percentage than any other school). Just try to look at the positive end. I went to LECOM and I liked it so much, and if I got accepted, I would definitely take it! Good luck..

I have my interview here on Feb. 11th! For everyone that has interviewed here, what was the interview day like? How many interviews were there (and about how long)? Were the interviews with professors only or with D3/D4 students as well? Were the interview questions pretty typical? Sorry, for the overload of questions haha. Starting to get a pretty nervous :nailbiting: I would love to hear any advice/tips from those that have already interviewed 🙂 Thanks in advance!

Oh and for those of you that flew in from OOS, did you guys fly into Tampa and just rent a car?

Its a group interview, total of 6 students and 2 faculty members. It took for us about an hour of typical dental interview questions. No need to stress out, it is a very friendly atmosphere. You will first get an introduction about the curriculum, then you'll divide (there will be a total of 24 students there, divided intro groups of 6), 2 groups will take the tour of the school with students while the other 2 groups take their interviews, then you switch. You will then get to each lunch with students and you can ask whatever questions you want. Later, there will be financial aid talk for 20 minutes. There is no need to stress...
I'm not sure about the airport, I'm a florida resident and I travelled with my car. Best of luck!
