I know this is still seven months away, but please share your strategies, goals, materials, etc. here! I'll post mine up very soon, and I greatly appreciate any suggestions/tips. Best of luck to us all!

Hey guys,

I took the text last august and my aamc average was 26 and I got a 25 overall.

I took this test and my ammc average was 32 and I got a 26......Im applying this cycle I want to just die.

I got vr 6 / ps 9 / bs 11 ---- I was averaging vr 8-10 ps 9-11 and bs 10-12

3.81 overall gpa and 3.7 science gpa

WHAT DO I DO!!

You need to retake and work hard to score higher. A 26 will prevent you from getting into nearly all U.S. M.D. schools.

At least you have a 31 overall.

Badd99 - I'm in the same boat as you. 26 overall even though I was averaging 31-33 on my practice tests. Also applying this cycle and I'm completely lost.

Same thing here, you need to retake and work hard to score higher. A 26 will prevent you from getting into nearly all U.S. M.D. schools.

MCAT Prep Materials: Princeton Review course with all TPR materials.
AAMC average: 31 (range: 30-32)
Prediction: 28-31
Actual: 35 (13PS, 11V, 11BS)

I was so excited to see a 4 point jump from my average. I was pretty confident going through the verbal section (I've consistently scored 10's on every verbal section I took so I wasn't too worried there). The PS section seemed to be mostly topics I was comfortable in so I guess I got lucky on that one, I came out of that section feeling pretty confident too. Hit the BS section and I don't know what I was seeing, the passages were insanely hard in my opinion and were pulling on a lot of nit-picky detail, some of which I had never seen in my life in any coursework or during my review course. If something was going to go poorly as far as scoring, it was going to be this section (at least that's how I felt coming out of the test). I was quite frankly amazed to see such a jump for my actual score, I've never scored that high and would've been happy just to break 30. Now to go finish up my app and submit!

Congrats to all those who got the score they wanted and are done, to those planning a retake, you can do it!

This message is for anyone who was dissapointed about their score... This was my third time taking the mcat the first time I got a 20 6/8/6 and the second tme I got a 20 again 7/6/7 this time I finally got a 30 9/10/11 so don't give up study hard and remember if you want different results you have to change your study habits. When I decided to retake it there were doubters and some who suggested different career options but if you know in your heart that you are meant to be a doctor work hard, have faith in God, and you will achieve what some people think are highly unlikely.

Prep: EK; Kaplan content review for gen chem, ochem, and physics; TPR for bio; TPR online practice material
AAMC 9: 34 (11PS 12BS 11VR)
AAMC 10: 33 (11PS 13BS 9VR)
AAMC 11: 34 (11 PS 12BS 11VR)
Prediction: 34. Thought I killed BS, was predicting 12+. Was iffy about the PS; was hoping for an 11 because my practice PS were all so consistent. No idea about VR; was hoping for a 10+.
Actual MCAT: 37!!! (12PS 14BS 11VR) Way better than I thought, but I always seem to do better under pressure. I can finally sell all my prep books.

Congrats on all the great scores! And to those of you who have to re-take, keep your head up!

I'm in a similar situation as you.

AAMC average: 31 (range: 30-32)
Prediction: 30-32
Actual: 35 (14PS, 10VR, 11BS)

PS and VR were my highest on my practices. Was hoping to get at least 12 on BS since I haven't scored lower than 12 BS on my practices (AAMC 11 BS was a 14). Overall, I'm glad to be done 🙂

Average AAMC: 30.8 (range 29-33)
Prediction: 29-33
Actual: 30 (10 PS, 9 VR, 11 BS)

I'm kinda disappointed, especially since I was getting 11's on all my verbal practices... Don't know what happened there. I'm considering a retake in August, but considering my average practice scores I'm not sure it's worth it. Hopefully I'll feel a bit happier in the morning.

Average AAMC: 29 (25-31)
Prediction: no Idea honestly haha
Actual: 32 (13 PS, 9 VR, 10 BS)

Very very very happy with this score. I was really scared for VR, and the 13 in PS suprised the hell outta me

People like you give me hope. My AAMC average was around yours and I would be elated if I received a 32. Solid score - good job!

Prep: TBR, Chad's Videos, All AAMC Tests/Self Assessment
Practice Tests: Ranged from 28-35. Had 32/32/31 on 9/10/11.
Did not even try to predict, felt like anywhere from a 29-36.
Actual 10PS/11VR/11BS 32 total.

Woo glad to be done.

There is a part of me that wishes I could have done on the high end of my range, but I pretty much exactly hit my average so I am satisfied.

My advice to anyone studying, take every AAMC test under exact testing conditions. Go to the library, make the breaks the exact same, everything. Its a waste of time and money to take those things in sections, preparing your nerves and confidence is 50% of the test. So many people talk about not being able to focus until late in PS, or constantly thinking about PS while taking VR. These are all things you have to practice and work on.

Overall happy, glad to be done. Should make me a competitive applicant for this cycle.
I disagree. I took them all in sections and ended up getting a 35. Do what you feel most comfortable doing and what your schedule allows.

Once again this thread is full of 99th percentile ppl.

I wish someone a little less lazy than myself would catalog the scores and calculate the mean/median/SD of these reports in excel. It appears that the average here is above 30.

You will be one of the few.

A large number of people talk about how exhausted they were on test day, or couldn't move on from the PS section and let it affect them during the rest of the test. It will help immensely to have gone through all these situations before.

Doing what you feel most comfortable is a good idea for just studying. But theres only a few AAMC tests, and the MCAT day itself will not be "whatever is most comfortable." For 99% of people its pretty silly to not prepare yourself for test day. I didn't score the highest, but I have no doubts that I handled the stress well because I had done it all before.

Well SDN breeds a certain type of motivated and neurotic people.
Also the data would be skewed since people with <30 would be less likely to post their scores.

Still in shock about my 39. I posted on the 30+ thread and that was surreal! Anyway, if anyone is retaking and have any questions, I can answer via PM. My AAMC average was 33.5... although my last two AAMCs were both 35. Still, I know it's a huge jump. I wish there's a secret that I could give out...but even I don't know how I did it. Anyway, I'm here to help!

Congrats to those who got the score they're aiming for!

Just be happy lol...I averaged 32 aamc tests and got a stupid 26....taking it again 7/2

I just took another practice a month after the test with no prep at all in between and got a 29.

Ya f**k that test.

Doesn't surprise me at all. As someone said, the only people who come here are those who are motivated and resourceful.

I do see a few people who never posted before but are just now posting their 35 or above. I think that could be seen as a little insensitive and showboating. But people who scored below what they wanted are also posting. Which is smart. Everyone is here to help everyone.

Haha, yeah. That happened to the 5/11 thread as well. People who hadn't ever posted and have only 1 or 2 SDN prior postings showboating their top 3 percentile score. Seems a little dubious. 🙄

I hope you guys are not talking about me, although I have posted before, mostly during the 1 month wait. I purposely avoided sdn while I was studying because it made me really anxious and I couldn't study at all 😳 Anyway, I really wanted to help other people out, especially those who are planning to retake. I'm actually communicating with a bunch of people via PM. I understand if it seemed a little insensitive, but sometimes, people are just really surprised or proud of what they got (which could push them out of their lurker status and move them to make a post). I must concur though that some posts may seem dubious... although self-reporting of 35+ scores has its own selective bias.

I do remember that when I was still waiting to take the exam, I reveled in reading about high scores in other threads. It inspired me. It motivated me. Every MCAT date thread will have a sudden burst of high scores...I actually feel like our thread is not as bad as others. But I think it serves as an inspiration to those who are still studying for the MCAT. (That yes, this score is possible... you can do it, too!) In the same vein, really low scores motivated me as well (fear is a good motivator). But yeah, just wanted to offer a different perspective. I know that although this is a happy time for a few, it could also be a very difficult time for some people. I will definitely try to word my posts better...but I don't want to walk on eggshells since this is the internet, and it's definitely hard to convey tone with just a few words.

Maybe that's because some of us are way too busy to spend much time on SDN... 🙂

dont sweat it, i felt like i might have bombed it too and ended up doing slightly above my average, this test seems really hard to judge just when walking out of it.

Did anyone do MUCH worse than their average? I'm a 5/23'er, felt like I bombed it, and trying to decide if I should submit my app or wait til Tuesday.

I was so convinced I bombed it that I immediately signed up for a retake and spent the past month studying. I only ended up a couple points below my AAMC average with a 34.

But anyway, how much could it hurt to wait a few more days at this point?

Are you going to retake it still?

This question goes to those who got a 30+ or 33+ who initially felt like they bombed a PS or BS section:

Did any of you know for sure that you missed several (ie 5+) relatively easy questions that you just got wrong because of the pressure/spending too much time on earlier questions or calculations, and end up getting a higher PS score than you expected?

I took the 6/20 exam yesterday and I have approximately 10 questions from the PS that I either completely got wrong, or possibly got wrong b/c I had to throw up a guess in order to move on, and wasn't able to come back. Or that I just made a mistake under the pressure. On BS i have ~8 such questions.

Did anyone have a similar circumstance, and ended up doing a lot better than they had thought?

I thought I got like 6-8 wrong on ps, ended up getting a14, which is like 2 wrong. You always think the worst after an mcat. I felt so bad after, but did well.

Wasn't referring to you. Unlike some other people, you at least had a few posts before saying how you did. Congrats on the 39! You totally rocked it. Also, thanks for sharing your thoughts for others to do just as well.

Don't forget too that experimental questions get put on the test as well that don't count. And after taking that pretty tough experimental section it wouldn't surprise me if they were some of the more difficult questions.

Yes that is exactly what I am hoping to be the case. But the thing is that I also made some boneheaded mistakes too. Hopefully it all works out! Thank you

I thought I bombed it. I was so depressed after and thought I got a 7 on the ps. I was so distraught right after the ps section that I screwed up verbal and went into the bs panicking. For the month that I waited I tried to remember every question I thought I got wrong and then estimated I got about 18 questions wrong on the ps. I'm not happy w my score but to my surprise I got a 31 and got a 12 in the bs and an 11 on the bs.

I almost ran out of time on physical, and did not have time to go back and calculate a lot of problems that I had marked. I did not even try to count the number of problems that I thought I missed- would have been way too depressing.

PS totally threw me off for verbal. I almost voided my test after verbal, because I literally guessed on 50%. Ended up with a ten, have no idea how.

Bio I felt okay about but had to skim and guess on two of the last passages which were pretty dense because I ran out of time. Which had never happened before (minus aamc 11). Estimated around an 11, and got a 12.

Ended up with a 32, which is good enough for me. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Try not to stress too much these next few weeks!

Were those questions that you guessed/chose some answer, legit hard/seemed super hard or were they like questions that are very doable/normal and you choked and chose the wrong one? For example, let's pretend (I took a TBR question for this example) the question asked: "Object A floats 2m underwater on Earth. If you took Object A and placed it underwater on the moon where it's 1/6 of earth gravity, it will float:" and you choked and chose like 12 m underwater let's say, instead of the correct answer.

DId you know for sure (when walking out or day after) if you missed any of those type of "easy" questions on the real deal? Or were they purely the "really insanely hard questions I didn't know I chose C b/c it's my favorite guess letter"? Sorry to sound so interrogative Im just curious b/c I feel like I missed a handful of those types of questions too. In both PS and BS.

Thanks you two, this is definitely encouraging! Congratulations on your scores, wish you all the best this app cycle!
