AAMC average: 32.5
AAMC 11: 31
Post-test prediction: 31
Actual: 34 (10/13/11)
Just to provide a bit more context, since I know that when I was preparing and waiting for the MCAT these threads were cathartic.
I took a Kaplan on-site prep course and thought it was good enough, but what was REALLY useful were their online materials. They have an absolute wealth of material, practice tests/sections/questions, flashcards, quicksheets, etc. Most (read: all) of my content study was from their textbooks, which I thought were quite good (especially PS). I really didn't have much time to study, due to the semester, and I really crammed hard the week before the exam, taking an AAMC practice every day.
The most useful prep I did was taking the AAMC tests and
reviewing them. I went over every single quesiton on every test I took, not just the ones I missed. I can't recommend this enough.
After having taken these tests, I realized that PS was my weak point, as I never really scored above a 9. I spent 75% of my study time on PS. Verbal was always my strongest and I never specifically practiced it.
Post-test impressions: I got lucky with a slightly easy PS section, which is what I needed. It wasn't easy, it just wasn't nearly as hard as, say, AAMC11. Verbal was by far the most difficult verbal section I'd ever done, so I was really worried as I was counting on verbal to pull my overall score up. BS was just about what I expected, maybe a little harder. Definitely reminded me heavily of AAMC11, which was the most representative test by far.
Post-score reactions: Very pleased. I predicted a 31 coming out of the test due to a really tough verbal section. Thankfully, I ended up hitting my average (13) on verbal. Totally happy with the 11 in Bio; I got a 12 on one practice test I think, which would have been nice, but 11 was my goal. A bit disappointed with the 10 in Physical, since I thought that that section was one of the easier PS sections I'd done; but seeing as I averaged 8-9 on PS, I can't complain much. Would have loved a 35 or 36 (I see 36 as the definition of a "great" score) but I'm really happy; this should by good enough for most schools I apply to.
Done with this beast of a test FOREVER.Yessssss!!!
