Hey all! I am signed up for this date. 8:00 a.m. Yikes!!! I am aiming hard to make 40+ my reality so hence me making this thread so early. A former lab- mate and current medical student had a ton of MCAT prep stuff she gave to me. So I have the Examcrackers set, Hyperlearning set, regular Princeton Review, audio osmosis, and practice MCAT tests from a variety of sources I also do the MCAT questions a day through email and on my phone (to help with super quick recall). I am officially studying legitimately now. Currently starting with Examcrackers. I'd love to hear from you all doing the same. Let's do this!!!

Be prepared to take the 11/7th test if you're registered. The seats won't be added before the test.. That's how I'm reading it.

But at this point we can't reschedule anyway right (since 10/31 we can't cancel the test)? I just don't really understand what they're trying to say haha.... I'm probably reading too much into this, but I was originally going to find a spot right when I can register again after our test on Friday...

Yeah, I thought that too, but they would be throwing us under the bus if they put out dates now, which would lock up spaces for all of us that will reschedule come January.

One of their other tweets from last week said that it's most likely that they'll release seats AFTER Nov. 7. I just hope it's not between 11/7 to 11/9, which is when we can't register. Other than that it's fair game I believe. Does anyone have any ideas? lol...

no idea but none of us will need the january dates because we are going to go uranium-235 fission on this ****!!!

we're here to fu** sh** up

Do we need to know our AAMC ID to take the MCAT or just our username and password? I'm reading up on what to expect on test day and it occurred to me that I should probably know this. Maybe we should have an MCAT test day checklist haha!

Go ahead and just quote this post, remove the quote tags, and add in things you bring to test day (if it is optional, put optional in parenthesis) if it is required, be sure to bold and/or make it red
  • Snacks for during breaks to keep hunger at bay - granola bars, mixed nuts, a quick to eat piece of fruit (optional.. some people don't eat or they will be too nervous to eat, although they shouldn't be that nervous 😉)
  • There should be water and maybe coffee available at your test location, but i'd bring your own just in case (optional)
  • Some people prefer sports drinks - gatorade, powerade, etc (optional)
  • Energy drink/coffee if that is your "cup of tea" so to speak haha (optional)
  • OFFICIAL Photo ID that is NOT EXPIRED that has the same first and last name as what is registered on your test and has your SIGNATURE (passport, driver's license, state ID, etc)
  • gum if that helps you (optional)
  • LAYERS of clothing... testing centers can be hot or cold depending on your location. I plan on wearing shorts, a pair of sweats, a tshirt, and a jacket but obviously this will depend on the climate in your testing city (sort of optional)

I just saw this tweet from AAMC:

11/7 #MCATday examinees wanting to reg/resched into existing Jan dates, note seats will likely NOT be added in time. Be prepared to test.

What does it mean? that they are most likely going to add the seats BEFORE we are allowed to register again? :/
It means you won't find seat in January, whether you want to reschedule or were hoping to take a january test. In other words, we're stuck 🙂

Holy crap

I just got done with AAMC 11, and I thought it was the hardest one by far But it is the one I have scored highest on....wtf!!

I just want to take Everything I have thought and prepared for the mcat these past 3 months and throw it out the window!!

I personally think it's a blessing in disguise to get a harder test for two reasons.
1) It's curved more and helps you more than you think
2) You don't become over-confident

Buuut that might just be me...

Yeah. I just don't know what to think about the mcat now, but at this point it doesn't matter. We just have to go into the testing center this Friday calm, cool, and confident. I really have been trying to focus on doing my best and not on a specific number...but of course that is easier said than done.

I just thought it was funny that the practice test I thought I did the worst on was actually the best.

Haha, I feel you. I took AAMC 11 today morning too, and felt pretty roughed up by the PS section, but my score ended up around my average (if not a little better). I was kind of scared to look at my score after finishing, so this is definitely a relief. It's hard to completely trust my scores because I took all the AAMC's a year ago, but it's too late to worry about that now! Just a little longer to go, guys!

We got this!

update: AAMC 10: 14 PS 13 VR 14 BS 41

This was the easiest PS so far out of all the AAMC's imo. The VR was alright but def more manageable than AAMC 9. BS was as usual, no surprises. I don't know if I should take AAMC 11 tomorrow or wednesday because I did want to have a complete rest day before the MCAT. Any thoughts guys?

Gratz on getting back in the 40s.

Have a rest day before the MCAT! Just lightly look over notes

It varies from person to person on what tests are easy. For me, 9 PS was an easy 12 but maybe 12 for you is a bad score?

Somebody help please! Vasoconstriction--decreases blood flow, while increasing blood pressure (since your heart has to work harder), but how does it change the local velocity of the blood? Is the blood speed faster even though overall flow is reduced??

Think of fluid flow in pipes and the continuity equation: A1v1 = A2v2. Since the area of the blood vessel is decreased during vasoconstriction, velocity will be increased in that particular region to compensate for the reduction in area.

But when it comes to something like atherosclerosis, it's true that blood flow is reduced, right?

Atherosclerosis remains asymptomatic for decades after its initial onset. It's true that the walls of the Artery become less elastic but the artery muscular wall enlarges at the location of the obstruction so no change in blood pressure is observed until years later.

If this was an MCAT question then the writers would need to specify the conditions of the disease and give enough information to solve a question relating to blood flow.

AAMC 10 - PS/VR/BS 10/7/11. Disappointed in general esp., with PS, VR is expected and BS is ok. Just 1 more to go on Wed. And then all hell breaks loose on Friday...... No 10 felt a bit more difficult than 9 to me.....

ya i just finished VR... it was rough. plus i hate taking tests at the end of the day but a full time work schedule doesn't allow much else to do.

oh well, almost done. ~86 hours until we start the real deal

Yeah, this was my worst test. It was curved tough and I made some silly mistakes.

Saying it in hours makes it sound very scary yikesss! I will say this, november is going to be a good month... blissfully unaware of what the future beholds. Plus it's my birthday month 😀

AAMC 10:
28 composite
11/7/10

finished BS very quickly, tied for highest BS to date (1 question away from an 11)
highest PS to date
tied for lowest verbal score to date

history of FL scores:
24 (real deal this June)
27 (FL 3)
27 (FL 4)
25 (FL 5)
28 (FL 9)
28 (FL 10)

averages on self assessments (extrapolated to average raw score conversion tables): 8/9/8.5ish for a ~25-26 average composite based on self assessments. so a ~3 point solid improvement.

my raw score has gone up by about 8 points from AAMC 3 to 11
% has gone up by 5%

going to take 11 on wed. i am feeling good.

Hey guys, Late to the party, but I'll be taking the test on the 7th too.

I took AAMC 11 to day and got a 33 11/11/11. This was the lowest I've scored on the verbal (typically get a 12 or 13) and 5/8 of the questions I missed on the PS were stupid mistakes. Really hoping I can cut those out before Friday!

welcome aboard 🙂

It's totally fine, the saying goes as you will probably score around your averages on the AAMC's so don't sweat it.

guys... I have been so unconfident about taking another practice test...the last one I took was last Wednesday AAMC7 with a 10/7/11. it's not because it's a bad score, but I am just so scared that I'll do bad on the next Full Length and that's going to ruin my state of mind going into the real exam this Friday...

Any suggestions or comments on this situation?

Question: If the absolute sound intensity from firing a rifle is 2.0 W/m^2 at a distance of 2 m from the rifle, what will be the absolute sound intensity at a distance of 100 m from the rifle?
A) 2 x 10^-4 W/m2
B) 8 x 10^-4 W/m2
C) 4 x 10^-2 W/m2
D) 2.8 x 10^-1 W/m2

I got down to A and B, but can't work around to get the correct answer. Anyone wanna take a crack at this?

Is the answer C by any chance?

Ahh work with the units!

2 W/m^2 (2m)^2 = 8W

8W/(100m)^2 = 8x10^-4 W/m^2

@TheEngineeringNerd I still don't understand why you are squaring the terms. Is there an intensity equation that I don't know? The only one I remember is the decibel level equation dB = 10 log (I/1 x 10^-12). I don't know any equation that has distance dependence for intensity level.

Also, one of my worst content topics is Genetics and I have an idiotic question - can an autosomal dominant/recessive mutation of a gene be heritable? If someone can elucidate the process of transfer of gene mutations from parent to progeny, I would very much appreciate it.
