Hey all! I am signed up for this date. 8:00 a.m. Yikes!!! I am aiming hard to make 40+ my reality so hence me making this thread so early. A former lab- mate and current medical student had a ton of MCAT prep stuff she gave to me. So I have the Examcrackers set, Hyperlearning set, regular Princeton Review, audio osmosis, and practice MCAT tests from a variety of sources I also do the MCAT questions a day through email and on my phone (to help with super quick recall). I am officially studying legitimately now. Currently starting with Examcrackers. I'd love to hear from you all doing the same. Let's do this!!!

update: AAMC 5

13 PS 14 VR 13 BS 40

PS: A little more calculation heavy than the first three FL's but still nothing too ridiculous concept wise. I finished the PS section on the first 2 FL's with 7 minutes remaining but with this one I only had 3 mins left.

VR: first few passages were straightforward but then the one about the artists and pablo picasso was a nightmare to read (literally had to stop myself from falling asleep) so I just completed the remaining passages quickly and came back to the art one, not surprisingly it was the passages where I missed 2 questions.

BS: Nothing too ridiculous, the passage with the macro and micronuclei caught me off guard as ive been slacking off on my genetics 😛. A few missed discretes here and there on this one but no complaints as I've yet to completely cover all of Biology.

I didn't feel as tired after this FL as much as I did with the first two, so my endurance is increasing. Hope everyone is going hard in their prep around this time!! we can do it guys!:banana:

from now on I will be periodically posting memes and funny stuff to ease the stress a little, you're welcome 😀

DAMMMNNNN YOU LOOKING GOOD BRO. Am rooting for you to hit 42-45 and revenge this beast for me. Kill it, cut the head off and let me feed it to the birds buddy

Hey MCAT family

Took Kaplan 5 today and got a 13/8/12 for a total of 33!!! Disappointed kaplan VR not giving me double digit scores but I will continue to work on them.
@lazyindy good job on another 40 score!! Carbon gratz on 31!!

I will take AAMC 5 tomorrow -

(going to keep a running score sheet)

my AAMCs so far

#3: 10/7/10 for a 27
#4: 9/9/9 for a 27
#5: 9/8/8 for a 25 ugh

my physics understanding has gotten better though and it shows, but gen chem still needs some work. going to keep going through some of chad's videos on my weakest topics in each subject (i've only hit through physics so far), so i do see some hope!

83% on the physics questions, 64% on the gen chem questions
47% of humanities questions, 86% of natural science, 69% of social science
50% of orgo questions, 71% of bio questions

@baxt1412 - are you doing post-phrasing like your supposed to? look at the aamc breakdown for the specific topics you need to improve in gchem/phys/bio.

My suggestion is to look at your score report and for each topic breakdowns, EVERY topic you score <60% in → go back to practice problems in TBR/EK/TPR, etc.

For PS, I think its easiest to improve just by really knowing your content inside and out. And remember, do NOT overthink on practice tests.

"The more simply you solve a problem, the more likely you are to be correct" - my friend told me this and these are the words of wisdom 🙂

Q83 in Chem SA:

The solubility of CaS04 is said to be low in water because.............. and the ans is c) both ions are highly charged. The explanation is: " For an ionic compound to dissolve in water, the energy released by solvation must compensate for the energy reqd to separate the ions. When cations and anions exhibit a strong attraction, it is rather difficult to separate them. The attraction is equal to Lattice energy in which charges of the ions are the most imp factor.

My question is: By the same logic as above, NaCl should also be sparingly soluble in water. But it is quite soluble. So I am not really convinced by their ans. In facts ionic compounds are a dead giveaway for their solubility in water - but in this case nay not so. Any thoughts on this.....

Well, NaCl is a +1/ -1 salt. Pretty much all those +1/-1 salts are soluble. That +1/-1 charge is not that strong.

CaSO4 is a +2 / -2 salt. These things are 'highly' charged. They are attracted to each other and dont wanna let go! ( I literally wrote that somewhere lol) Pretty much any -2 salts are insoluble except if its SO4 with a +1 cation

These are very general solubility rules I go by, not complete. But I think it answers your question! @sps27

I agree with your thoughts @Janus as I now think more about it.....it must be the charge.....damn those solubility rules.....😱

How are you guys reviewing the Self Assessments? Just read over the explanations?

I went over every single problem. For ones that I got wrong, I wrote down my thought process, why I got it wrong, and how NOT to get it wrong the next time I came to a similar problem. If it's content involved, than review the fuark out of it.

I thought 9 was harder, but I guess difficulty level seems different for everyone. Anybody got any good last minute erbal strategies to adapt?

Good job! That's a delicious score you've got there! I made a (12/10/13). But I actually found #9 to be one of the easier ones, haha (mind you, I'm only taking #9-#11).
Thanks! I didn't think the sciences were hard, just the verbal. I did think the BS was a bit tricky but I liked how most of the passages were experimental.

Normally Friday's I do a AAMC FL, but I woke up this morning just mentally exhausted and knew I needed a break. Saw how perfect the weather is today and decided to go to the park and enjoy the day...

Before leaving my place, I saw my mcat books staring at me and I yelled, "Don't judge me!" As I rushed out the door

It's fine I'm sort of taking the day off too after reviewing AAMC 5. Not good to overwork your brain and risk burning out this late in the game

LOST IT AT THIS ONE!! 🤣🤣

feminist-on-tumblr.jpg

What in the world is a cisgender? On second thought, never mind, I don't want to know! 😛 My favorite part has got to be where she calls him a man-ape (pejoratively) yet uses ROAR in her title post... 😀 Feminists could use a lesson from Draupadi 😀

On my break day yesterday I told the following to my MCAT books

Incidentally, my EK1001 Physics bad-mouthed me and now he's on vacation for a week or two (Diwali prayer thing - @lazyindy will get it 😛))

I like this one the best.......

@BigEinstein: Am laughing my butts off. I can't believe AAMC told you that 'computer took your money'. Cracks me up big time.......

Orgoooo! 😡😡 Now I need some chai to calm myself

Is anyone going to try taking the new practice test that came out? For fresh material?

Edit: obviously not taking the social science parts...

Yep, I purchased the new 2015 test as well as the online questions from 2015 MCAT guide for more practice.
Spoiler alert, some of the CARS passages from the 2015 guide are repeat AAMC VR passages from the current exam. Was disappointed when I saw that 🙁

Hm. Well I have read people say that they seem to be leaning towards 'new mcat' passages/questions in these past dates administered. Might be a good idea?

The new bio is definitely almost exclusively research heavy. Very few gimme discretes.
Also, the new "PS" section is unlike anything I ever imagined. It is as if you're in the biochem or organic passage. I had to double check that I was not accidentally in the "bio" section....

trying to think of an offensive halloween costume. Anyone got any ideas? 😀
I can just tell one of the VR passages on the test would be convergent evolution of childhood and adolescent psychology based on observations of Halloween trick-or-treating activities in pre-meds that brings out their inner child!!

@Janus_Kinase that is a GREAT idea lmaoo

What? I was rooting for a passage on potty training - like the EK101 book has. I had quite a few wrong ans on that passage which made me sad cause I actually liked that passage. Now I've decided not to like any passage. Just hate all of them and pay attention.......🙂

Yeah sounds like it was a lot more conceptual. Idk how I feel about that.

For some reason I feel like we will have a decent PS but a killer BS.
@Janus_Kinase - Do you have a similar link for AAMC#7 like the way you once sent for AAMC#5 with them guys in EK discussing those questions? I just wanted some clarification for 1 particular passage in PS for #7 so that is why I was asking.....

Nope sorry. All I found was that channel on youtube. I wonder if people who take the EK class have access to all of them? That, I feel would be sooooo helpful than like other courses. But cant say forsure cause I didn't take course lol.
