Hey all! I am signed up for this date. 8:00 a.m. Yikes!!! I am aiming hard to make 40+ my reality so hence me making this thread so early. A former lab- mate and current medical student had a ton of MCAT prep stuff she gave to me. So I have the Examcrackers set, Hyperlearning set, regular Princeton Review, audio osmosis, and practice MCAT tests from a variety of sources I also do the MCAT questions a day through email and on my phone (to help with super quick recall). I am officially studying legitimately now. Currently starting with Examcrackers. I'd love to hear from you all doing the same. Let's do this!!!

is there any other way to remember that besides the chart? anyone? i know the chart isn't hard, just wondering.

yes actually:

i had seen it like that before, but when i tried to line it up with the arrow chart just 5 min ago i thought it was wrong. nvm then haha. yeah i think this is way easier than trying to do the arrows IMO. we all know where the s, p, d, and f blocks are so then that's all you need to know and just read left to right, up to down.

Writing an electron configuration is relatively easy: Look at the periodic table of elements, the 'left' side of the table is designated as s, however He is an exception such that it is also s despite being on the right side. The transition metals in the middle are designated as d and the nonmetals on the right side are designated as p. Finally the last 2 periods of elements on the bottom contain f orbitals but these aren't likely to show up on an exam (but don't take my word for it)

speaking of periodic table stuff...what other jargon should we know besides alkali, alkali earth, transition metals, halogens, nonmetals...anything else?

The most annoying thing is when they have an exotic metal and I spend like a freaking lifetime searching for that little element on the Periodic Table. LOL

BR loves using berkelium anddddd I thought it was funny bc I thought it was a made up element trying to sound like Berkeley........

btw @anon5759 I remember you addressed me as 'bhai' once in this thread. Are you indian? and how did you know I am indian? haha just curious 😛

Have a little quick question: http://puu.sh/cELBr.png

I decided that this is a rather polar molecule so it would be cytosol, but the answer is cell membrane. My reasoning was there were 3 polar "groups" as opposed to 2 non-polar ones.

honestly idk. if you tell me what AAMC FL that is from i can look up Kaplan's explanation.. unless it's in the 2015 stuff

I just tend to assume most receptors are going to be on the cell-membrane unless we're talking about steroid hormones, but I don't know if that's the right reasoning here. But even if a neutrotransmitter is polar, it can still attach to a receptor on the membrane, right? It just can't diffuse through the bilayer.

That's how I'd go about it, at least, haha.

So ive spent the past three days sole focused on verbal section. I am satisfied w/ my PHYS/BIO Section (Scoring atleast 10 on AAMC 6-10), but my Verbal isn't budging from approximately 50-60% (7-9 Depending on the Exam).
Does anyone have any last minute tips for verbal????? I am at a loss what i can do

It is polar and that makes it hydrophilic. The cell membrane is a lipid bilayer that is hydrophobic so serotonin would rather have a tough time crossing the membrane just to reach its 'cytosolic' receptor. It makes sense that the receptor is some sort of ligand-gated protein in the membrane itself that can best bind to the hydrophilic serotonin and initiate an intracellular response after binding.

Unfortunately verbal is something that requires a lot of slow progress so last minute is not something that can help. Keep practicing but the reality is I wouldn't expect a miracle. But you never know I guess.

It is a neurotrasmitter like AcH - I know that. Those are generally small peptides, long peptides, amine based etc. 2A and 2B would mean adrenergic receptors alpha 2, beta 2 (just guessing, leap of faith) etc. Using that as a clue and knowing that those receptors are on the membrane I thought cell membrane. Besides I don't know of any neurotransmitters which are steroidal......

AAMC 11 - (PS/VR/BS) 11/7/9. Anyways, so it is. I wonder how I went from 44/52 to 35/52 in BS. And I thought PS was from hell, not BS. Not going to do anything anymore other than light content review from here on now......

and tag me on that desi list.....ha ha

That's what I'm doing. I don't think I could bring myself to do any hardcore studying even if I wanted to. The heaviest stuff I've done this week is AAMC 11, haha.

There are a lot of Indians on this thread, though (I'm one too...).

To all my desi's in this thread: I hope your parents aren't the ones pushing you into medicine 😉

Although tbh I am still undecided if Medicine is the right career for me. I'm just taking this test as soon as possible before the big change in case I do plan to apply this upcoming cycle.

Yay so many Indians here :woot:

The only thing my parents are pushing me into is an arranged marriage! 😀 (kidding...)

Keep it p
Wow so many Indians, am African but grew up watching so many Indian movies lol. Anyway am ready to strip this beast naked on Friday and rape it hard

Putting that aside, you'll be fine, Einstein!

@lazyindy Googling that Drau pic...I found a blogpost where a guy compared Karna to Superman. Beyond hilarious. Kryptonite Karn. 😀

Power bfast of eggs, bacon, and avocado

For the 10 minute breaks protein bar, macadamia nuts, and water

I think I share your avocado enthusiasm 🙂

i eat the same thing every morning.

3 whole eggs and 1/2 cup egg whites cooked in 1Tbsp olive oil
8 ounces of coffee w/ 2 scoops of chocolate protein powder, 1Tbsp dark cocoa, 2 servings benefiber

errrrryday

i'm "dieting" (or whatever) so my carbs are cut down so i reserve them for lunch and dinner so i get more at each sitting.

i will try to go to bed around 9:30. def gonna pop a couple benedryl and try my best to sleep

Same! 930 for me. waking up at 530. you?

20-30 minute drive for me. want to get there at 7:30 so i will leave no later than 7:00. which means cook breakfast around 6:20. which means up at probably 5:45 to shower and wake up.

Boy I'm exhausted... took AAMC 11 and my brain feels like jello but that's how I feel after every FL test. I am so glad I took this because it's really is close to what I've been hearing. Little ochem, very experimental biology, perfect for PhD student, etc.

I got a stupid 10/7/10 for a total of 27 but after that ebola passage I felt like crap and thought I would get a 8-9 or something on biology. Kinda surprised at physics because I'm usually better. Messed up on newtonian mechanics and you'd think I would be good at that because of my major but I guess not. All in all, I think this is what the MCAT we'll take will look like and if I can just score a couple more points I will be ecstatic!

Me too! I'm think about waking up at 5:30 am. Take a shower to wake up and eat breakfast and deep breaths all the way lol!

I day folks and then we all can kick this test in the a**!

oh and i guess i didn't exactly do nothing. i had to take a picture for my MD interview next friday

What do you guys think? I bet they will love it. I did some mild photoshopping to bring out my best characteristics. lol. well i plan on wearing a white shirt for my interview so i didn't want to do white here too.

Hahahaha I love it and think you're photoshopping really brings out you eyes and lips. That skin is flawless too might I say 😉

I'm thinking I'll use my composite picture I will get taken for graduation next may for my application.

Oh and @texan2414 I tried the Official Guide Bio questions so far. There were about 4-5 passages all experimental with like 10 discretes that were tougher than FL discretes, imo.

Where are my hispanics at??

@baxt1412 I had the same feeling. I actually had dinner at restaurant with my mom . The whole time I felt anxious and wanted to rush back home to study lol. But at this point I feel like I am at my Kstudy .Le'Chatelier taught me not to mess this equilibrium
LOLOLLL

At your Kstudy

I've been lurking here for about a month and I want to wish everyone the best of luck tomorrow!! Hopefully we'll get THE score we want/needed!!! 🙂
I'm doing some light review until noon today, and then closing the books to do fun and relaxing things; hopefully this will increase my brain's buffering capacity for tomorrow, so it will remain around the same alertness from start to finish...
What is everyone's plan for today?

Welcome! I am about to drive to the testing center to get a feel for it. Supposed to be 15 mins away.

well tomorrow is the day, my situation blows.

Took a bunch of kaplan sectionals (about 5 for BS and PS so 10 total) and 3 AAMC practice exams, scored a 30 on the last one I did. Ended up starting to feel sick 1.5 weeks ago, fast forward to now, still very sick, congested, cant focus for more than 10 minutes looking at a computer monitor before it gives me a migraine. I have to stare at one for 4 hours tomorrow and haven't studied in a week.

Going in with good faith, how BS is it that I get sick right around this time -___-
