Hey all! I am signed up for this date. 8:00 a.m. Yikes!!! I am aiming hard to make 40+ my reality so hence me making this thread so early. A former lab- mate and current medical student had a ton of MCAT prep stuff she gave to me. So I have the Examcrackers set, Hyperlearning set, regular Princeton Review, audio osmosis, and practice MCAT tests from a variety of sources I also do the MCAT questions a day through email and on my phone (to help with super quick recall). I am officially studying legitimately now. Currently starting with Examcrackers. I'd love to hear from you all doing the same. Let's do this!!!

so glad i took a gap year. i mean i'm working full time, but it's the chillest full time clinical job i think that exists anywhere.

i do allergy testing, and my company sets a goal of like 5 allergy tests a month. other than that, if they choose to do the allergy shots, they come in every 5 weeks or so for a 30 minute appointment for a new vial of medicine and take it back home with them to do the shots there. i have so much downtime, i basically just troll the internet for 7.5 hours a day and then work for 0.5 lol.

Going home to my parents town for thanksgiving break. My uncle doing his residency in Pittsburgh (yes, he is the "young" uncle) is coming and my aunt and uncle with their 4 kids are coming from North Carolina. Its going to my an awesome week!

I haven't really had a chance to just relax and be unproductive... Currently in my senior year studying Biomed, taking 5 classes and finals are coming up next week... :blackeye:

Yay another Biomed! My goodness, I finished senior design last semester and I have so much more free time. I was absolutely impossible for me to study for the MCAT and have senior design at the same time. 4th year was a toughy but 5th year is nice!

I'm debating on whether I should get a math minor. Just one class away but that would mean I would have to take it in the summer next year. My advisor said I could still graduate and do all of the things that come with graduation but I still don't know... Totally not a medical related question but what do you all think?

i wouldnt' worry about the math minor. it's probably not going to impact your life in anyway besides costing you money and time/effort.

i know that sounds rather pessimistic, but it's the same reason why i didn't go back and finish my third degree in biochem even tho i only needed biochem II and a lab like spec and sep.

I forgot to mention that If I get all A's this semester and the next I can graduate with a GPA of 3.80. Now graduating with summa in engineering requires a GPA of 3.800 which is exactly where I would be IF I got all A's. I'm hoping to get all A's this semester but do you think this is too close? Suppose I got one B next semester and was cut short of summa with just a tad bit, do you all think I should take this extra class so I can graduate with summa and have a math minor?

Please don't think I'm bragging or anything, this is an honest opinion I need. I asked my advisor and she said it's up to me and I don't like that answer.

i don't think the 3.8 is that necessary. you're not at a GPA cutoff for any school, so I wouldn't worry about a 3.79.

take as little stress as you can. i mean get good grades, shoot for all As, but don't worry about taking another math class to get a minor which you don't need which woudl result in an academic honor that you realistically don't need/isn't incredibly important anyway.

that being said, if it's important to you, then do it. i'm just stating my opinion that i think the math minor and the latin honors is a little useless.

Thanks @baxt1412 !

Spot in January 8th in Canada filled up while I spent 2 minutes checking up the ticket price. Tons of Dec. 6th spots are opened at the moment. I mean, I can void right? But what if I made that 40+ on mine!? What if... lol.

$%^$# the police. I stated this in a thread on Ferguson and got accused of saying F the police. Well, I got no comment guys, but I stand by #$@! the police !

Guys, if you want a seat, now is the time. In the last hour I saw Arizona, South Carolina, another Guam, New York, and TWO Texas spots. I got one of them for Jan 23rd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After reading the October 21st and 25th results

^ I know right? so many people got below their averages but a few did fine.

I've been constantly having dreams about my scores for the last week. Just pray to god when I open up my score report my reaction will be similar to this:

and not this:

I was at movies all weekend long - watched interstellar (twice), big hero 6, fury, ouija, and a couple others.

Do something ELSE other than obsessing over MCAT score 🙂

TURKEY DAY IS COMING UP..

lol I keep going back and forth with myself. "It'll be fine. You'll do much better than you think you did, as usual. You'll open up your score report and breathe a sigh of relief and pleasant surprise. But then again this is a whole different animal. Your scores might be abysmal. You need to accept that you're going to have to start studying for the 2015 test."

The PS section was just a burden. It was was stealing all of the happiness from me, like a dementor off of harry potter. The more I think about it the worse I think I did.

Yeah I was completely demoralized after the physical science section. Hopefully the curve is generous though!

Agreed. I feel the PS is what's going to hurt my score the most. Really mad at myself for not shoring up my weaknesses.

Ugh so tired of waiting. I mean I have a seat at a school that I would love going to next year, but its still not my #1. I feel great about my interview at my #1 but a better score could only help. Sucks that they do random review. Like literally random. Doesn't matter if you interviewed 2 days ago or 2 months ago. I JUST WANT TO KNOW ARRRRGGGHHH

what's your top choice?

You got accepted into med school. I don't even know why you are still here.

they are not the sole determinants of
admissions decisions. For example,
approximately eight percent of
applicants with UGPAs ranging from
3.80 to 4.00 and MCAT total scores
ranging from 39 to 45 were rejected
by all of the medical schools to which
they applied. In contrast, about 18
percent of applicants with UGPAs
ranging from 3.20 to 3.39 and MCAT
scores ranging from 24 to 26 were
accepted by at least one school.

But, those 18% were probably mostly, if not all URMs...

LOL believing the myth does not make it true 🙂, I love how much SDN hates on minorities, yet if you look at class pictures across all allopathic schools with exception of HBCs URM don't get anywhere close to make up 18% that's why they are still URM. if URM were to get admitted as often an as easy as people think, there be no URM LizzyM made a post few weeks ago on this that goes to show UMR dont get a magical free pass 🙂

Also widely discussed in here http://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/the-urm-advantage.895107/

Ok I understand that. Tuition would def be cheaper and you would not have to worry about electricity bills lol

well, this is kind of getting off topic, but not that this thread has much to talk about for the next week or so anyway.

i live with my mom right now, but if accepted to my in state, i would probably find roommates and we would live here, cover the cost of the mortgage and my mom would move somewhere else. she doesn't like the upkeep of an older house anyway.

What a stupid stat. I bet 90% of them didn't even finish the application, or only applied late to a few schools (i.e. medicine wasn't their passion/they found something better for them). The other 10% probably got interviews, but thought it would be a good idea to defecate on the interviewer's table.
