***The Official NYU Class of 2017 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

No I haven't :scared: have you?

No, but I called them today and they told me that the decision was made yesterday and they are sending out post mails today.

I tried to ask the guy if no email means no acceptance but he then got mad at me for asking such question and hung up on me. Such a rude guy. Wonder if that question offends the admissions people.

Anyway, guess I didn't get in. Just waiting for the rejection/waitlist letter.

Hey I interviewed on Monday jan 28, and was told that everything, acceptance, wait list and rejections would be sent out via post.

I think email acceptances was only for pre December interviews and used as a way to notify everyone on December 3 so ppl wouldn't have to wait for post mail and end up calling and bugging the admissions about why they haven't heard anything.

Interview this week - they pretty cut throat at this point? Not Sure about them yet but excited to check the place out

Since many students ask the same types of questions, I'm sure he was annoyed, however hanging up was not necessary.

I would definitely prefer the waitlist letter...

One of the D3's said that she got her acceptance a week before classes started, but that was also about three years ago....

Nothing left to do but to wait for the mail...sigh

Wow, that was so rude of him!

I just got an interview on the 22nd. This is my first interview and I don't know how to start. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to properly prep for the interview (or any interview).

Sure, my overall and science GPAs are both just over 3.6, AA 20, TS 19, PAT 23, RC 26

I'm also a non-trad student and spent the last 5 years working for the NYC dept. of health doing research, so I think that really helped me stand out.

Good luck!

This interview was different from all the other interviews I've been to. NYUCD was my fourth one. They grilled me pretty hard. I'm guessing because its already February and you really have to stand out for them to want you. Look up questions online and practice but still be honest about your answers. Also get your point across. More important think of, "if the admissions board was in front of you what would you tell them". Why dentistry? What will you be doing in dental school?

NYUCD wants people who would want to give back to the community. But more importantly they want smart students who they know will be capable of handling the course load. Show all of that and more.

This was my worst interview. I felt like crap coming out, I just wanted to cry. The interview is first. Then the rest of the day you tour the facility. So be on your feet and be ready at 8am.

Good luck !!!

I'm sorry you had such a rough interview. Mine was a mix. There was quite a few tough questions thrown my way that I still feel a bit sick about. Overall though I didn't find it too bad. By the end my interviewer had given me some feedback for future interviews. Seeing if a student can handle the course load seemed to be a point in my interview as well.

One question I was asked and didn't expect: "While preparing for this interview what question were you most afraid you would be asked"

Also you're absolutely correct. Get your point across! Don't let your brain lock up on questions you don't expect. Take a second to think and gather a succinct answer.

Good luck

Hey everyone. Interviewed January 30th. I realize it hasn't even been a week but I'm feeling pretty anxious.😕
Did any one else interview that day and get a response yet? I know a few mentioned SDN while we spoke.

For those still going to interview, talk to your fellow applicants. It relieves a lot of anxiety on interview day and you get to meet a group of really cool like minded people from all over the country. 😎

Hey its weird to hear that some had rough interviews with tough questions, while mine was extremely laid back. I was pretty lucky because I had to go down to one of the clinical floors to my interviewer's office, while everyone else interviewed in the admissions office, so I got a brief tour of the clinic and was able to talk to a few students.

They did stress the importance of being able to handle the course-load, as well as community involvement. The best piece of advice I can give is to just make sure you ask a ton of questions, even if you already know the answers to them, because I definitely think it shows that you have interest in the school and program. Most of my questions were clinical based, so again I was lucky because my interviewer was a Clinical Professor, and the person seemed really impressed by it all.

Lastly, like b0b0(ID) posted above, it is February and you have to stand out from everyone else. They interview on Mon, Wed and Fri, each with about 13 ppl, so you definitely want to be remembered. Like everyone says, just be yourself and do your preparations.

Goodluck!

Has anyone got rejected after the interview so far????

So, is there anyone who got accepted but didn't get the email notification and only got the post mail?

I've interviewed on mid-Jan and I know the decision has come out, but the admissions tell me I won't get any email but just post mail.

First of all I want to thank everyone for replying. From what I have been reading is that the questions are mostly going to be, Why NYU, Why do you want to be a dentist, what are you weaknesses/strengths, tell me about yourself. Are there any other types of questions that I am missing that I should prepare for? Were there any ethical questions that they asked?

I'm also surprised to hear that a lot of people had intense interviews b/c mine was pretty laid back. They were short on interviewers the day I was there (Jan 23rd) so my interviewer told me up front that he hadn't had a chance to look at my file at all. He said he was going to start reading through it and in the meantime he wanted me to tell him my full story - where I grew up, about my family, college experience and how I found dentistry. It seemed a little daunting at first but after I talked for a minute he cut in and it turned into a really comfortable conversation, not formal at all. The one formal question I remember him asking me was about an ethical dilemma I'd faced and how I handled it.

A few years ago I was going on a job interview and a friend gave me what I consider to be the best interview advise I've ever gotten, and it's really simple: Remember to smile a lot. People like people who smile. Even if you're feeling nervous or stumped on a question, just smile. I've always thought about that right before going into an interview and they usually turn out well.

Good luck!

I had a good guy interview me, didnt really ask anything crazy, pretty laid back interview imo. All depends on the person you have I guess.

My guy was rough... He asked me everything. Why do you want to be a dentist, why NYU, why do you need a crown after a root canal (probably because I had 6 years of experience), when is amalgam necessary, why is amalgam bad, why did you do bad in this class. What really caught me off guard was when he asked me about the mafia because he noticed I took History of the Mafia. He asked me how it started in the US. Fortunately, I do well under pressure and was able to answer every question. This was my first dental school interview ever too... I was sweating bullets...

Wow.. Yea like I said it all depends on who you have. Some ask very tough questions while others are laid back and just want to get to know you. Hit or miss usually.

has anybody gotten their acceptance by mail and not by email?

Just got accepted to NYU! Interviewed on Feb 1. Got an email today with the video notifying me that my acceptance packet will be arriving in the mail! So excited!! 🙂

Cheers,
Saj

I interviewed with you. Got a bit discouraged when I saw people interviewed on the 1st and got their acceptance.

Yeah I saw that which means movement won't happen till mid-April to may. But do you think they still look at the waitlkst before then?

bump about acceptance w/o an email?
Hey guys just a word of hope and encouragement. I interviewed on Dec. 10th and was told I would hear back via email by the end of the following week. When Dec. 21st came around and I had not received an email I was devastated to say the least. I was waiting for a rejection or a waitlist via snail mail, but what a surprise it was when I found my acceptance packet in the mail Saturday morning! Praise God, I couldn't be more happy. I never received an email from them so I guess have faith and hang in there because you never know. Best of luck to all...

Just got an email with a video and the mail package!! had my interview a two days ago!! FEELS GOOOOODDD

Hey, my interview was back in December, but in case you want some feedback... It was overall very relaxed. I would imagine that now they start to ask more difficult questions because they really have to narrow down the group. Just be yourself, the interview I feel is their way to know what kind of person you are off paper, in fact, that's one of the things the interviewer told me at the beginning. Feel free to ask me any questions. Best of luck.

You are welcome. I wish you all the best. Is NYU you top 1?

its a close call but I would say so..i interviewed in buffalo and i went here for undergrad and grad so its a very close 1st and 2nd...but I loved NYU and NYC and I think I would go there if i get in..
