***The Official NYU Class of 2020 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

Should we also sent any form along with the deposit?? (I am waiting to receive the package as I just got notified yesterday!!)

In the link we got in the notification email we got, there was a tab talking about a deposit form I think on the bottom right picture. I believe that is the form we will send with the deposit. 🙂 I think we have until Jan. 7 to send in the first part of the deposit.

Has anybody else been able to join the 2020 Facebook group? I sent the request and nobody's added me, yet. 🙁 Maybe I'm way ahead of myself, but potential roommate situations would be awesome.

I just messaged one of the admin, and I see she just added a few people along with me! Hopefully you're also in!

I think that will come from the acceptance packet and deposit? That would be my best guess. 🙂 I'm super excited!!! NYU was secretly my top choice, haha.
It was my top choice too. Congrats on your acceptance! Thanks for the info. I looked through the checklist and didn't see anything else besides the deposit that was required but just wanted to be sure.

Yeah everyone thinks I'm crazy because of the price... But I've worked with 20 or so dentists over the last 2 years (large, corporate practice) and the 2 best doctors are both from NYU. I really just needed to be a part of that school! Congrats on your acceptance as well, I can't wait to meet you in August!

Someone ranked NYU No 5.

GPA: 3.3, Science GPA ~3.15
I had an upward curve to my GPA which I think helps.

DAT: AA: 20, TS: 20
About 68 hours of shadowing and also some volunteering experience.
Hope that helps!
Thanks a bunch! May I inquire on how your interview went and whether you had a lot of different extracurricular activities? I want to measure my chances of being taken off the waitlist :/

I have a mentor who just went to some conference the other day. He was told that NYU was #4.

I did not have alot of extracurricular activities. I did have a couple of certifications but was never a member of a club (something I hope to change in dental school). I thought my interview went pretty well. I strongly emphasized my willingness and ability to adapt to living in NYC (I'm from Florida) and listed a few of the draws that the school had for me including resources, technology available to students, and the near 100% passing rate for board exams. I really wanted to go here so I think that shone through on interview day. Good luck and hope you get accepted soon!

Got my acceptance letter this past thurs. I don't know about everyone else's interviews, but mine was pretty tough. There were a lot of very probing questions, and the interviewer really wanted me to paint a picture of myself and why I wanted to go to NYU specifically.

I did a good job I think, since I got in and my grades aren't the strongest. If your interview is coming up, treat it seriously. You might get a faculty member who half-asses the whole thing, or you might get someone who wants you to put on a show. Good luck to all.

Congratulations to everyone who has received an interview or been accepted! I have an interview early January and was wondering if anyone could discuss what the interview is like and what type of style it is? Conversational? Situation based questions? Etc. I'd appreciate the help as I have only had one interview so far and have quite a few coming up.

It really depends on the interviewer you get. Most people in my interview group (mid-November interview) had a laid-back, conversational interview, but mine was very different. My interviewer was direct and went straight through a list of questions, which was a little intimidating, as there was no feedback given between each question. If you find yourself in a similar situation though, just make sure that you're able to hold your own and speak firmly about your interests in dentistry, strengths, and what draws you to NYU. Good luck!

Anyone accepted from the 12/1 (or after) interview get a call/email/packet by mail about scholarships?

Interviewed 12/1, but haven't received anything in the mail yet.

From what I remember, they said they will contact you about scholarships, you don't do anything

So it is not included in our package or email? I remember someone saying that it was included in the acceptance email or something..

I think that they first look at your fafsa, but they definitely said that they will contact you, so your best bet is to fill out a fafsa come Jan 1st, and then maybe call the financial office asking if there is anything else you can do.

Last year we were notified by email about a week or two after the acceptance date, by email.

Did you get an email that they are taking people off the waitlist on spring and summer?
I did. It says they will start reviewing people one the waitlist in next few weeks and months. It's from one of the admission officer. What did you email say ?

When was this email sent? I didn't receive an email.

Has anyone that emailed Dr. Mejia gotten a reply back from her?

I emailed Dr. Mejia about scholarships and she said she already sent out some scholarships to people but that more will probably go out later after the deposit deadline

Anyone with Post December acceptance received scholarship offer?

Even though it's winter recess at NYU, did anyone receive any emails from NYU's admissions or financial offices after December 23?

Anyone still not get their acceptance package in the mail? I was accepted December 1st.

I haven't received anything from them.

If someone interviewed in early November and has not heard back yet, what should one expect? (Waitlist/Rejection)?

I'm a Canadian applicant with scores similar to yours (AA: 21, TS: 20, PAT: 19, cGPA: 3.34, sGPA: 3.26) which would normally make me really happy that you got accepted because I think it means that I have a shot, EXCEPT: my problem is that I applied extremely late in the cycle, since I could only write the Canadian DAT on Nov. 7th, so I ended up submitting my application on AADSAS on Nov.23rd - super late, I know 🙁
Could you tell me around when you applied? I worry that have no chance anymore just because I applied so late...

Hey All! I have an interview on Jan 12th. Anyone else have an interview then?? Its my first one and I don't wanna blow it

It's actually a pretty relaxed interview. They'll probably ask you fairly standard questions and then look over your application briefly. Once you arrive, you'll be welcomed and told to help yourself to some breakfast. You'll be fine.

How much do one- and two-bedroom apartments in the vicinity (say, 15 min walking distance) of NYU run???

I have been doing some research on this. More housing openings will show up once the year is over and people graduate from NYU etc. You should expect to pay around 1400-2400 for just yourself. It may go even lower if you are going to convert or add another room to the apartment. The three places I hear most people live are Kip's Bay, Stuy Town, and Waterside.

Thanks @Hyunin1210 for answering that.

A current dental student might be able to answer this:
What are the official clinical requirements to graduate? (number of crowns, fillings, bridge, implants, RPDs, CDs, RCTs, extractions)

I believe the number of required procedures is the largest factor in determining the strength of a "clinical program." Since I'm not a dental student, I'm ignorant about how to assess any school's clinical program besides studying the frequency of off-site rotations and clinical graduation requirements.
