***The Official NYU Class of 2020 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to say it again, I am a current D1 student at NYU that lives roughly a 8-10 min walk from the school. With interviews still going on, my D1 roommate and I are looking to offer a space in our apartment in Stuyvesant Town for less than hotels in NYC. We have a futon that converts to a full-size bed in our living room and a curtain to allow for privacy. Having gone through the interview process not too long ago, we would be more than happy to give some tips and pointers, as well as walk you to the interview in the morning! Anyone who interviewed last week hear back yet?
 
Is there a class of 2020 only facebook page/group? I just wanna know how full the class is

Most schools have nearly full classes. Obviously NYU is unique due to the size, but I'd say its at least 3/4 full.

Haha thts true. Thats why I was looking for a student only group page.
I guess there isn't one yet (I was going through last year's forum and saw that they had two fb pages).
 
Do we have to reply to the email accepting the waiting list like other schools? I got a email saying I am on the waiting list
 
Anybody know when the 2nd deposit is due?
 
Hey, everyone.

I'm getting ready to send my second deposit, but just realized that I forgot to make a copy of the deposit form that I sent in with the first payment. Do we need to include one in our second payment? If so, could anyone send me a copy of a blank form if they have one available?
 
Rejected without Interview today.

Just got an interview invite today! Does anyone know if they filled the class already and if I'm just interviewing for a waitlist position?

No worries, if you are still interested, see if you can volunteer or shadow your favorite dentist, or even volunteer at a hospital so you can network. It will strengthen your application and it may even introduce you to some one that could network with you and advocate on your behalf.

I would respond, sometimes they keep track to see if you are utilizing that email. That's great..it means that as you get closer to the start of the school year you will probably be one of their students.

Business professional; Black, Dark grey or Navy blue suit. Portfolio ; recommendations in addition to those you sent, and do some research on the school. Ask questions, politely interview them. It is often a surprise for many of these faculty members to have someone inquire about their programs based on the info you gained on line. There is a lot out there, make sure you learn your interviewer's name, and send them an email within 24-48 hours afterward, thanking them for their time. It will cause them to rethink as to you as a candidate. Staff interviewers are looking for your dedication and personality; do you play sports, family history in medicine and dentistry, what made you look at their school, etc. Remember to smile and make eye contact when answering their questions. If you do this it make you look like you're really interested in what they are saying. Thank them for their time after you are done, even shake their hand if you feel inclined to. Faculty members are more professional minded; your GPR, 7 year plan after you graduate, do you want to specialize, how much dentistry were you exposed to undergrad, they are looking for motivated, excited people that really seem to enjoy the challenges of being a health care provider. Do you see yourself in private practice, nonprofit, or specialty programs. They also want to know your likes and interests.. art, science, music..etc. Good luck.

Yesternday around 3pm, received the waitlist email from NYU. Funny thing is I ddin't receive that email during the day, but around bed time, that shxx popped up on my notification and I was like "great NYU, thanks for the good night" It ruined the entire night and entire work shift.

I mean, my interview didn't go 100% as I had hoped, but I was hoping to get an acceptance. My interviewer seemed like a straight to the point, douche kind of a guy, but it wasn't terrible terrible.
Oh well, there must be something else that they look at.

After this waitlist decision, now I feel even more insecure and will have to get ready for LECOM interview, which I do not anticipate will yield me a spot right off the bat.

My head is filled with "FML"

You should shake it off. More often then not, you will probably be offered the spot for next year. Don't let your interviewer personality sway you from your wants. You should send a thank you regardless, and respond favorably to the dean stating how much you appreciate the opportunity to have interviewed there. It is the world of politics but, remain professional, it pays off to always put your best foot forward. It is also good practice for patient care later on.
 
When you guys scheduled an interview, did they send a confirmation email? I scheduled my interview last week but haven't received a confirmation email like other schools have sent

yep! i got it immediately after i scheduled my interview. maybe give them a call?
