Interview Invite #1 9/26
NY state Resident
Interview Scheduled - Mid October
GPA- 3.8 SGPA -3.5
DAT 20AA/21TS/23PAT (no section below 17) ***RETAKE***

For all of you that are hopeless and worried DON'T BE I was too but you have to trust in the process. NYU is known to interview all the way through march (what I heard). SO Keep your head up (especially if you have above a 20AA) I saw a post on here with a 21 AA questioning to retake which blew my mind. My 20AA is not a super high score which is why i was nervous but (alhumdulilah) I got called in from my dream school. Trust in yourself, trust in the process and trust in your hard work.

anyone who needs help with interview process lmk!

Yes I have some questions! My interview is on Monday. Is it open or closed file? Is the interview 1-on-1 or group or MMI? How many people do they interview in a day? Is there a lot of walking?

Got an interview offer today! Don't worry everyone they are still sending out invites.
Anyone interviewing on Nov 2?

Got an interview! OOS CA, stats in signature. Thank god I thought I got overlooked LOL.

The interview style is not MMI and for me last year it was two separate interviews (one with a professor/faculty member and one with an admissions member). Each interview is not too long and it is open-file and they try to gauge you as a person aside from the academics and see if you would be a good fit with the college. My advice would be to genuine and communicate your thoughts clearly and precisely and not to ramble. Good luck to all that get an interview!

Anyone that has went to the interview, do they want us to bring anything with us or no?

How was the interview? How many other people were there? How long was the interview? Was the only thing they needed was ID?

The interview was great! There were about 11-12 people and the interview was from 8am-1:30ish. All you need is your ID and you check in with security and they tell you where to go from there. The interview (which was 1on1) was really laid back. Mine was purely conversational and lasted an hour and 15 minutes, even though it was only supposed to be 30 minutes. I had a great time with the person who interviewed me. They had to pull me away to talk to an admissions officer which you also have to talk to, but it’s more to double check that everything like pre-reqs are in order and for you to ask any additional questions you have. Overall, it was super chill and I wouldn’t worry about anything except for how you are getting there. I took the subway and walked, others took a taxi or uber but some people were late because of traffic. So plan on giving yourself enough time to get there.

Edit: The interview was also open file!

Thanks!

I'm getting off at Penn Station, and I seen on google maps it's around a 25 min walk.

Take the subway! I have lived in NYC all my life and trust me that "walk" will stress you out. It also will probably take you longer. Better to take the subway and not be sweaty and tired at your interview.

So I had my interview last week and honestly it was one of the most casual and laid back interviews I've ever been on as most people here have said. As for getting there I'm from NYC and it was nice weather so I just walked, subway doesn't go directly to the building and I believe the easiest way public transport is the M34 bus, it's just easier to walk and I felt that it calmed me down a bit more. If there is a subway option be aware that most times its insanely hot underground and waiting for the train in those conditions might make you sweaty so disclaimer. When you walk in just check in with security and go to the left to the admissions office where they'll ask for your name and give you an information packet with a supplementary app to fill out. I was about the 4th person to go in so I took the time to fill out the app first and then waited until the interview. You can bring a backpack and store it in the closet which is what I did and they even asked before the tour if anyone wanted to change shoes so feel free to bring a comfortable pair of shoes. Two interviews in total with one being the faculty interview and a second where they just make sure to see if you have all the prereqs and everything. After that it was tours with students and a lunch at the end where you could ask more questions. Overall a great interview experience, if anyone has any questions feel free to ask and I'll answer the best that I can.

What was the supplemental app like?

How long were the interviews?
So my interview lasted about 20-25 minutes but others were in for as little as 10 to as long as 40, honestly just depends on who interviews you.

What was the supplemental app like?
Just a short app with general questions like which other schools you applied to and if you had ever applied in previous cycles, nothing major. It's mostly just for their statistics.

Hi, I am wondering if everyone's degree in here is biology? Is there anyone with engineering major?

I visited NYU dentistry while I was in New York yesterday. I went into the building and walked to the information desk but I felt like it was not a good idea afterall since I didn’t schedule a tour in advance.
I haven’t even received an interview from NYU yet. I would really love to though.. Should I call and schedule something for next time I’m in NYC? I live close and have friends there so I can always take the bus to visit the area. Should I email the dean to set up a meeting or something?

Does anyone know the percentage of those interviewed that receive acceptances on Dec 3rd?

Out of 4446 total applicants last year, 1322 were invited:
IS: 617 applied, 332 interviewed, 232 offered admission (interview yield 54%, offer yield 70%)
OOS: 3293 applied, 817 interviewed, 54 offered admission (interview yield 25%, offer yield 7%)
INT: 536 applied, 173 interviewed, 104 offered admission (interview yield 32%, offer yield 62%)

*source: ADEA 2017-2018 guide + an excel sheet on dental school statistics that was uploaded on here and FB earlier this year*

Wow only 54 accepted out of state?
Sadly yes... I'm OOS but I'm trying not to look too much into it bc they're a private school so that factor shouldn't be that important in admitting people. However, I read through the entire NYU invite/acceptance thread from last year for some interview tips and it seems that they really like applicants who show genuine, repeated interest in the school. So, it's possible that many OOS applicants didn't convince the school that they would move out to NY or something like that. It's probably a stretch, but I think it's a good possibility

My interview is coming up and I wanted to know what kind of questions you guys had. Were there any that caught you off guard? Thank you!

Is there anyone whose NYU portal status has been changed? Mine was under review for a long time and it changed to "Thank you for applying to the NYU College of Dentistry DDS Program! We are delighted that you've chosen to consider our program. You will be able to log in to this page to check the status of your application throughout the application cycle." Is this a good sign or a bad sign?

Same here

I see that sentence, but it also says your app is complete and under review. Does yours not say under review anymore?
I guess it was just a loading problem lol. Now I see Complete and Under Review.

Hey! If anyone needs a place to stay, I live in Brooklyn and have a spare room. I can help prepare you for your interview and bring you to the building on the day of. It'll be so much cheaper than a hotel room. Let me know 🙂

Anyone else get this?
