I'm in the same boat as well... Does anyone know how many people they have put on wait list, and how likely it is to get accepted?
 
Any of the first year students mind sharing what they have done in the lab thus far. Ive been accepted here, and to a couple of other schools. Roseman is definitely on the top of my list, just want more input on the clinical side of things, as i was thoroughly pleased with the didactics. A test every other week, every other weekend off, oh and pass/fail. yes please!!

I interviewed in Sep. I didn't get accepted and....I didn't get that email so I don't think everyone who interviewed got that email. Maybe I got rejected.
 
does anyone know how fast does the wait list moves at Roseman? what are the chances of being accepted after being put on a wait list and what must I do to increase my chances of getting in?
 
Since they have sent out wait list emails, does that mean they have sent out enough acceptances to fill their class already?

To answer some questions for you folks based off information that happened with last years acceptances:
1. No you do not need to pay a deposit to reserve an alternate spot. Just do the paperwork because it's stuff you'll have to do anyway if/when you get accepted.
2. You can start your immunizations but it doesn't really matter cause they'll let you do it during the year too.
3. Last year the initial waitlist was small. Not everyone who interviewed but wasn't accepted was waitlisted. That said, they burnt through that list quick (less than a week) and began interviewing for alternate seats (which resulted in acceptances funny enough).
4. Some anecdotal evidence would suggest this year they fixed the waitlist issue. You have a good shot of getting off the waitlist realistically. As great as Roseman is, not everyone who was accepted sees it the same way and will jump ship the moment they get. This works out great for those of you who really want a spot or this is your last hope.

My personal experience last year, I interviewed in Dec. and was waitlisted in April. A week later, I was accepted. Lots of movement will happen and the waitlist is out way earlier this year so congrats thus far. Let me know if anyone has any lingering questions.

Hi Jsaxon, I'll give you a breakdown of lab as we have had it.

Lab wise, we started with waxing. We do this concurrently with dental anatomy. We get all of our waxing done in the first few months and pretty much that's that (though all you do is waxing). You'll have projects for each type of tooth as well as competencies (a theme you'll see for all lab work).

Next, we did some work with our Hanau-Denar articulators as well as impressions and making models. This goes on during occlusion to help teach you aspects of occlusion (cusps go here, blah, CO, CR, yaddah). You'll take impressions on Darwin and use stone to pour up casts. These casts will be trimmed and cleaned up to be your final model. We then mounted them onto our articulators and magic happens and you check how the occlusion works (as well as learn how to use the articulators a bit).

This was all before Christmas break. Post break, we have roughly 5+ months of Operative Dentistry. Thus far, we started with sealants and CCRs and recently moved onto preps. We're in the process of finishing Class I preps and starting Class V preps.

A peak into the future. From now until the end of the year we will learn and do preps and restorations for Class I-V/VI. This is three times a week for the next 5 months. Even further into the future, as D2's, you'll do endo, crowns, dentures, perio stuff, and I think bridges in the first 6 months of the year. Clinic starts halfway (Feb this year) of 2nd year where you begin to see patients. You start off with cleanings but things pick up.

Lengthy but I hope this helps answer some Q's.

For those that were waitlisted, I'd recommend sending a short note to Dr. Harmon if you are really interested in attending. I sent one last year and I moved off the waitlist in 3 days. Maybe just a coincidence but it shouldn't hurt!

No. As of now, 2:47 p.m. 2/2/2013. Which is odd, because he said he would send them off Monday when he talked to me, and I live at the University of Utah. ..... I would have expected the packet by now.

I know we are supposed to get a computer, is it explained in the packets what computer we are supposed to get?

I just got my packet. 4:00 pm 2/2/2013. Mailman just dropped it off.

The packet won't describe the computer you will receive. Some info about it is available in the student catalog that you can download from the website.
 
Has anyone else received their acceptance packets yet? If so, what is the deadline to make the first deposit and to fill out the paperwork? I haven't received mine yet. I am worried because I want to attend Roseman.

I will most likely be attending roseman starting this fall.
I have couple of questions.
Since everyone who will be graduating from roseman will have atleast 90% on every class taken will their gpa be 4.0
how does this work if somebody wants to apply for specialty program?
will the class rank be determined by average of the numerical score that you received for all the classes?

Just got mine today (got accepted Monday, 1/28/2013 to give you a time frame of how long the mail took). You have 30 days from the date that the letter is dated from the post office to get the required stuff back. I don't have it on me right now, (At school studying for a midterm) but when I get home I will let you know of the things they require.

Off the top of my head,
- 1,000 non-refundable tuition deposit
- Financial Aid paperwork filled out
- Jacket Size
- ......? Memory fails me.... Sorry.

Grades are pass/fail meaning you transcript will only show such. How this will impact specialty programs is kind of an unknown. Presumably your LORs and extracurriculars become more important. Depending on the specialty, like OMS for example, a separate entrance exam that generates some kind of score will be crucial. There are other schools out there that are P/F and have graduates you specialize so it really shouldn't be an issue.

How realistic is it to be able to specialize at Roseman? I heard that research opportunities aren't that great since its a relatively new school. Could you give me your opinion?

- Admissions Office Information Sheet
- Immunizations and Physical Examination Form
- Health Care Provider CPR & AED Certification Card
- Certiphi Background Check (you will receive an email from Certiphi)
- Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended
- Student Health Insurance

Last time I got Hepatitis B was 1990. Do you know if I have to get the shot again? I made an appointment last week so I will be heading to the health center like 2/11. Then, 6 months from 2/11 will be 8/11... hmmm.... am I gonna be able to go to roseman?? lol

In our D1 class, we have about 10+ students who received either 3 or 4 year full scholarships from the Army, Air Force or the National Health Service Corps (NHSC). People did have trouble applying for the Navy for some reason, I think they were told that it was related to the school still being so young and having not received its full accreditation (which can only happen after the 1st class graduates)

Any of those scholarships are definitely worth looking into, Roseman is not an inexpensive school! Just make sure your applying for the right reasons.

I wouldn't worry, you'll still have time to wrap up all your immunizations after class starts. If I'd known that I could have saved myself a few hundred bucks and used my school health insurance to get them for free!
 
What is the 30 day limit for? Is it just for the deposit?

True research opportunities are limited now but there are lots of leadership and club activities available. That said, I don't really feel like research is a mandatory thing to get into a specialty program. Look at the OMS match results. Most of them have some research maybe but in pretty minor forms (i.e. posters instead of publications). I'm not terribly worried personally and I may want to pursue OMS.

False, for the most part they don't care. There has never been a school to receive initial accreditation to not receive accreditation. At the beginning of the year, lots of the military programs will come and give you info about there programs.

You could also just get a titer to check if you still have immunity.

Anyone that was placed on the alternate list get anything in the mail yet? Also, has anyone on the alternate list call Amanda/Becca? I am wondering if they can provide any information on our position on the alternate list and if that can change with the more people they interview.

They couldn't and didn't give any information about the alternate list last year. Might be worth a shot since you don't really lose anything and things can change maybe? Who knows.

Heyyyyy. just a question for you about the materials such health insurance, immunization, etc. Can you send those materials individually? I know my immunization will take forever... just curious how other people do this. I am about to send my deposit today though.

It's pretty common for people to not have the immunization done until much later. It's not something to worry about, just get your deposit and other forms in. Congrats.

Edit: That does remind me. The school will have you collect extracted teeth so you minus well get started on that now (goes for everyone). Hit up your mentors, oral surgeons in your community, whoever, to collect teeth.
