****The Official UCLA Class of 2017 Interview/Acceptance Thread****

For those wondering, UCLA has filled up their class as of yesterday.

Any other interview invitations (if any) will be for alternate lists.

Their Admissions Officer (Noemi) said they moved quickly this year. Their class was >80% full by early February.

Thanks for the information. I just wish they had the decency to inform all the applicants on their own. That's the very least they could have done for the $60 we paid them.

Really? When was the last time you paid $60 to attend a job interview?

It doesn't take much to inform their applicants that the class is full. Many other schools have done that.

+1.

And to JAWSSS, UCLA's not only school that hasn't informed their applicants, many other schools are in that category as well. However, there are MANY MORE schools that do keep applicants up to date with what's happening (i.e. UOP).

Yes, they don't owe us anything (even though we paid $60). It's just called decency.

Side note: your job interview analogy here is completely incorrect. Congrats to you though, I'm sure you'll definitely enjoy the next four years of your life there!

I understand what you both mean. But, you were informed about the class being filled up after hearing about it on SDN a day after it happened.

Sure, there are schools that notify that the class is full.... but not a day after it happens (and if those schools do exist, it is definitely not "a majority").

Sorry, didn't mean to offend anybody with my previous comment.

Best of luck on your next four years at whichever dental school you attend.

im with jaws origina unedited post. youll be getting a rejection in june or maybe even september once the class is official and everyone shows up. i only applied to a few schools and neither of the two i didnt attend interview have said a word to me after accepting my 60 to 80 dollar donation to the dean.

Case in point... My interview analogy made perfect sense.

do you guys know that the minimum grade in a non-pre-requisite class is? Is it a C/C-/B/B-?

Thanks!!

Anyone know if there's a benefit to submitting the Housing App earlier rather than later? I'm still making my choice of schools (though it's 99.9999% UCLA) but I'd assume there's no difference since it's all guaranteed.

Housing is not guaranteed at UCLA, sadly.

But, you can always just find an apartment and it probably ends up being cheaper.

Oh wow I'm glad I asked. Are the nearby apartments nice/is UCLA housing worth the money would you say? (Assuming you have experience with either)

Haha, Yeah, I went to UCLA for undergrad and I am going back for dental.

The hosing at Weyburn is... really small and REALLY expensive. The ease of simply getting a room and a grad-level roommate is great; however, surrounding apartments are nice and can be significantly cheaper.

I will not be apartment hunting until about June though... because nothing seems to be available until then.

keep in mind though... All UCLA housing (Keystone, Weyburn, Rose, etc.) might not be "guaranteed" but... You never really hear of people not getting ANY housing choice they put down. So, I wouldn't sweat it.

That's good to know. I would like to live somewhere that's cheaper, especially if it's not a significant drop in quality. Any ideas of how people find roommates/housemates?

Most probably move in with friends. BUT! UCLA does have a cool website:

http://map.ais.ucla.edu/portal/site...toid=6a287e9231434010VgnVCM100000db6643a4RCRD

Click on the "Post and Search Online Listings" link. All of the listings are only available for UCLA students, meaning: you have to log on with your username and password (the one you will make for the URSA website to make your initial deposit for dental school).

This is made by the housing office that takes care of all graduate and undergraduate housing (which also happens to be my old job, haha).

Hope that helps!

I think Weyburn is a good deal because you pay 1200 and get your own bedroom and bathroom. You share the entire apartment with someone else, but you have your own room and bathroom which is really good. A separate independent studio is minimum 1350-1400.

Studios might be expensive... But there are plenty of apartments that offer private rooms with private bathrooms for less than $1,200 and you will be closer to UCLA.

Also,

You can pretend to be married and live in family housing. You can get an entire apartment there (to yourself) for less than $1,200. haha!

Any option is a good option. :luck:

a friend of mine was forcibly evicted when they found out. feel free to roll the dice with that one...

what does that mean "filled up their class"? does that mean all 88 people have paid a first deposit? i'm dying over here T T; does anyone know how the waitlist at ucla works? i don't know the status of my app after my interview in march, but i thought we would get results by 2 weeks, if not at least by today since april 1st was the deadline for 2nd deposits..

boooooo waiting sucks 🙁

There's only 1 deposit for Ucla. Call noemi and ask about your status. I did in February and she gladly told me. They took about 2.5 weeks for me (interviewed jan and got on mid feb).

Hey guys, I just got offered an interview for an alternate position and was just wondering if anybody knew what the waitlist situation is looking like for UCLA. I really wasn't expecting to hear from them this late in the cycle.

Also if anyone has any information they would like to share about the interviews this year that would be greatly appreciated. UCLA seems a little bit more intense than the other schools I interviewed at. The essay scares me lol.

Any info would help a lot. Thanks!

Does anyone know if the "Statement of Intent to Register" is binding? I did some research and it doesn't look like it is (at least in recent years) but I wanted to get a more updated answer. I called the office and they were very ambiguous "why would you send it in if you didn't intend on going?" I mean, I'm 99.99% set on UCLA, but I still just wanted to be sure.

It's not binding, as far as I know. Though at least for Undergrad, when you sign the SIR, it withdraws you from other UCs. Unless you have a seat at UCSF, it won't affect you. Welcome to the class.

The essay isn't anything to worry about. It's just a general question about dentistry that you should have some ideas about, considering you're planning to enter the profession. As far as I know, the class is full, but a few people always drop out last minute. Even if it's full, I don't think the waiting/alternate list is very long. The school gives out so few interviews.

Has anyone heard back from their Monday, April 22nd interview? When would we hear back?thanks

I haven't heard anything. I imagine they will let us know something within a week or two but that is just a guess. At this point I don't think they are in much of a hurry since all of their seats are already filled.

It was 2 weeks on the dot for myself and other groups that interviewed and were accepted. It's tough, but be patient and wait it out. They don't interview many folks, so there's always a good chance!

Officially off the alternate list! I got the call yesterday saying that I was accepted! SO excited. UCLA was my top choice

when were you placed on the alternate list? were you high on the list

got rejection letter thru snail mail today

Same. I got UCLA, USC and UoP rejection all together within the last week 😛. Cali Schools are SOOO slow. Well, except UCSF which rejected me via email like instantly last year. hahaha

Anyone interested in an ARMY scholarship? It's a pretty good deal (100% tuition/books/kit and monthly stipend). Send me a PM and I can give you more information and connect you with a recruiter.

And in case anyone was wondering, I don't get paid to recruit. I do need a new paddleboard though 😀
