Hi guys, on my ADEA portal:
University of Michigan School of Dentistry (MICH) MI 07/01/2016 Received/Application Complete

Anyone have the same thing?
I have that too completed since 7/1. They don't update applicants unless you get an interview

How was the MMI? I just had an MMI day at MW-IL and I didn't really like the way it was set up. We read the prompt for 1 minute then had to talk to a brick wall for 7 straight minutes, literally the least engaging interviewers I've ever seen. Is this how Michigan's MMI is or do they try and ask follow up questions to add to the prompt?

All of the interviewers were very engaging. If you get stuck in the middle/run out of things to say, they definitely help you by asking more questions or making additional comments. I'd say it was as conversational as a MMI can get.

Nice! That's what I was hoping.. because I was pretty salty about the way MW-IL conducted theirs. Appreciate it.

Well guys, hate to discourage you but I got a rejection email this week with no interview. I had a 22 AA and 3.80 GPA with 3.82 sGPA. No joke, it's rough for us Canadians. Not a single interview yet except for UDM, and this school is pretty tough to get into.

That rejection email is probably coming my way too (similar stats as well)

What were your mail-out/submit dates?

I don't mind mean to beating a broken drum but I really think as Canadians your residency status holds you back from interviews at public dental schools in the US. Yes they do accept Canadians at UMich but honestly they will be picking in state, then out of state, then finallyyy you guys. They would want much more Americans than Canadians cause of scrutiny under government and state quotas. So I'm guessing the Canadians that applied here this cycle may have either applied earlier than you or were slightly more competitive. I applied here too.. praying for the best. I got an interview at UDM, I'm American though. But doesn't matter at UDM we'll see if it matters here. Lol

Would you be able to tell me about your EC's if you don't mind. Did you do research? Sorry to ask you can PM me if you want. I really wanna see if I'm up to par here lol

PS. Don't be discouraged. Your stats are stellar you are bound to hear from at least a few places. Don't worry, you'll be fine.. soon enough you'll have several interviews I'm sure!

Same here and I have a 3.96 GPA with 21AA and 24TS !

Does anyone know how to get to Ann Arbor from the airport? DO i rent a car or take a bus??

Have any Americans been rejected yet? I've heard that top tier applicants will be reviewed and invited first. Those with lower GPAs and DAT but have "something special" will take more time to review and will be looked at a later time and may be given an interview later.

Someone on this thread got an invite with average stats .. but I guess that statement is pretty true on a general scale

I rented a car. Took a shuttle from the airport to enterprise, got a car, and was in ann arbor in less than 30.

If you're 25+ of age then I heard it might me cheaper to rent a car.

I'm under 25 so I plan to take a bus to Ann Arbor. It's $22 round trip if you make a reservation. Otherwise it's $15 one way.
myairride.com

It stops/picks up at a transit center in town and I was just planning to Uber to where I'm staying. My friend took this bus before for a med school interview and he said he liked it.

It really depends on what schools you applied.

I'm a Michigan resident, UM undergrad, and I haven't heard a peep yet. I have a 3.6 cgpa, 3.5 sgpa, 21AA, lots of research/ECs, and I've gotten 4 other interviews... so I'm not sure what's up.

I graduated with a 3.9 from their Masters Program (recommended to me by the dental school), letters from their med faculty, have a 22AA, do research for UM, and am a MI resident, also nothing :/

I work at one of their clinical sites and assist their D4 students. I have two LORs from two UM dental faculty. One of them told the dean about me. Another faculty emailed admissions on my behalf strongly recommending that they don't overlook my application. ...Still waiting.

I agree, I am Canadian, applied broadly and I have 12 interviews. My app was completed in September. I really don't think they discriminate if you are Canadian, at some of my interviews they have told me that many schools are looking for more diverse (international) and experienced applicants.
I think different schools are looking for different candidates. I am from China, hopefully some of them will want me for their diversities. haha

App denied earlier this week too. US applicant. It was disappointing as my first rejection of the cycle, but I applied here knowing it was a long shot. My stats aren't really competitive with UMICH

Did you get the app denied news in the mail?

What are your stats and what schools did you apply to? I'm canadian and have 3 interviews, all apps completed by the end of august

That's ironic. I sought advice last year because my undergrad GPA was low and they never recommended the Master's in Physiology at UMich to me, instead recommended WSU's BMS program because its more encompassing of the biomedical sciences. But then again maybe you had a better sGPA than me.

That's funny. They mentioned WMUs (I applied to that program too), but really pushed their own. So I did it, but from what I can tell from those who completed this program with me, it isn't looked on as favorably as both the dental school and masters program directors made it seem.

Just curious, did anyone else have to fill out an Evaulation Clarification form?

Who's interviewing tomorrow?

Hi my flight is coming in at 11:30 PM in detroit the night before my interview. What is the best way to get to Ann Arbor??

Interview went really well, MMI was actually a lot better than the other MMI I'd been at. Great school, best of luck to all!

When would be the last date they send out interview invitation? I assume the pre-Dec interview dates has been filled…

In the past they've invited through all of October for pre-dec dates and they said they will continue to extend invites throughout the fall but I'm not sure what's going on with them for this cycle

I was there Friday too and was really impressed. Also, I was definitely a big fan of the lunch.

PSA - they told us they accept about 2/3 of their interviewers, so that's exciting!

I'm pretty sure it's 1/3, since they interview 300 and accept ~100. I asked this question when I was there.

They said they accept 180 when I was there.
