Would like some help evaluating my list of schools:
3.2 cGPA, 3.0 sGPA, MCAT 28 (9PS/10VR/9BS)
BS Degree in Chemistry- strong upward GPA trend
Current MS Chemistry candidate with focus in physical chemistry
Currently have two semesters of undergraduate teaching experience and extensive undergraduate research experience in physical chemistry lab
Interest in Emergency Medicine with three years experience with ScribeAmerica at a Level I Trauma Center- >2000 hours
Worked as scribe for a neurosurgeon MD with >600 hours in work/shadowing AND OR observation experience
Currently arranging shadowing with DO family practitioner
Extensive experience working with the general public- worked 2 jobs all through college (usually scribing and waitressing/bartending at the same time)

After my 1st year of university i spent a few months working at a Pharmaceutical Consultant company on contract reading drug product reviews. Aside from that i dont have a lot of work experience

I want to know if it makes sense for me to apply for the 2015 entering class for US m.d. schools if i havent applied yet. Same question for the D.O. schools. What do you think my chances are for MSUCOM specifically? they say they are taking about 25 canadian students each year.

Also, retook to the MCAT and got 8/8/11 🙁 Combined would be 30 but I know most schools don't look at that; I have not released the score to AACOMAS--should I? I tried to avoid deep south schools-trying to stay away from strong conservative thinking (LUCOM-never never never)

Okay up to this point I have only lurked and not posted, but I feel like I will sleep a little better at night with some insight from other people who are going through/have gone through the same struggle... I am a third cycle applicant (first cycle I applied way too late, second cycle I had some medical issues that prevented me from moving forward with my applications after receiving my secondaries). I applied very early in the cycle this time (read: first day possible for both primaries and secondaries) to a few schools, but was unable to apply to any more due to financial constraints. I am now in better shape money-wise and wondering if I should apply to more or if it's too late in the cycle to have a real shot.

I am strongly considering accepting William Carey's offer except that I haven't heard back yet from NYCOM or CCOM which were both preferred choices for me. I am very nervous though because I felt good about my TUCOM interview and did not expect at all to get put as a low alternate. I am wanting to eventually work in a city setting, probably leaning towards a dermatology or emergency medicine residency, so I worry that going to a medschool in a more rural settings geared towards family medicine will make that goal more difficult to reach. I am wondering which (if any) additional schools I could/should apply to as a bigger safety net at this point. I would really appreciate any and all input I can get!

First, congrats on your acceptances! Going to a school in a rural setting will not make getting into those residencies more difficult to reach, what matters most are your board scores and letters. I know nothing about WCU but I would look into affiliated hospitals, I'm sure they aren't all in the middle of nowhere. Personally, if I was in my third cycle, I would take that acceptance and never look back. You could apply to more schools but with it being this late in the cycle, I don't think it would be worth it, you've already got an acceptance at hand, save your money. I also know CCOM places a lot of emphasis on numbers (unsure of NYCOM) so I wouldn't hold your breathe. I have almost identical numbers and decided not to go through with my secondary for CCOM due to this.

Just had surgery for carpal tunnel and my ulnar nerve... trying to stay on top of things for next cycle. Thanks for the insight! I think I will go ahead and save my money as suggested. A lot of my insecurity about WCU doesn't just come from it's slightly more urban environment, but also it's strong focus on Family Medicine (which I'm not really interested in) and the fact that it is only 5 years old. Their campus and facilities were beautiful and new, but I worry that my graduating class would still be guinea pigs as the administration tries to get their grasp on how they want to do things. I'm nervous too that we might be overlooked for rotations and residencies in favor of graduates from longer-established schools. Having met the administrative staff as the school, I think they are definitely going in good directions and doing all the right things, but being a new school it is inevitable that they will have to make some changes and tweaking before they get it just right.

If I had to pick a first choice, I'd definitely say WesternU since I live close, though I know their stats tend to be more on the competitive side and I don't think my MCAT is competitive enough.

Other considerations:
I also come from a disadvantaged background and have struggled with some fairly unique personal life experiences that I've been recovering from, but I'm not sure how much that would factor in. I'm curious which schools I'd have a decent shot at. I'm especially worried about my MCAT score - I know that 6 on verbal closes a lot of doors. Any advice on where to apply, or any other tips in general, would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

@asdf123g I think you have a nice rounded list. Your numbers put you in the running for about every school, just make sure to apply broadly enough (I would say 12+ schools).

Personally, I would take off WCU, LUCOM, and VCOM-Auburn (since you already have VC).

I know the LUCOM controversy so understandable. Whats wrong with WCU?? I kept Auburn because although I am much closer to VC I figured the lower stats for admittance might give me an advantage given VC rejects me. While I have preferences, beggars cant be choosy and id go anywhere.
