I have made a test. If you can answer yes to 4 of these, you are in the poverty club!

You know that it takes a few flushes it takes to get rid of the "dark water" after the water company turns the water back on.
Your first car cost $400 or less.
You think a car made in 1996 should be considered "late model".
You make more as a pharmacy intern than your parents. Both of them.
You have a parent show up to the pharmacy school orientation wearing a NASCAR shirt.
You had to pawn something to buy a suit for interviews.
You live in a trailer or apartment for school and you think it's a "step-up"
You know what "government peanut butter" is (tasty, that's what.)
When your classmates talk about the time they went to Italy, you say "I went to Ohio once." (Or something similar)
When you hear the term "rich kid" you instantly want to punch something.
75% of the guys in your neighborhood are in Iraq.

As many of these actually do apply to me, I am member #1 of the poverty club. Who else shall join me?

#2 This could be You!

But did you ever have the powdered milk? That was the singularly most disgusting thing I've ever drank.

We had powdered milk on a girl scout camping trip. It was like gray water. Really gross.

My wife's friend up at Ursinus University roomed with a girl that made this biazzare concoction of saltines, powdered sugar, powdered milk, and water (from Aldi's, not the govment). Contrary to all logic, it tasted damn good.

Well I was the oldest of 8... don't forget creative sandwiches on double-heeled bread and drinking out of various washed food containers or bowls in a pinch... of course never any ice... and my word, you do OWN one a them water wrench turny things don't you? Eventually mine wasn't even hard to turn anymore... at least you used to get farther on 83 cents worth of gas... mostly pennies of course...

For dessert we used to take a piece of bread, pour milk on it (yeah until its nice and soppy), then put some syrup on it......bon appetit mes amis.. 😉

I have not endured most of these things though I have had alot of family distress in those areas and others when I was young.

I still feel like I'm in the poverty club because:

Making monthly payments on a new car is actually cheaper than maintaining my very broken one

I am getting financial aid, but my yearly projected amount that I should be able to contribute to my education is about 3,000 I believe. I don't make this in a year right now!

When I turn the light on, the T.V. and the air conditioner on my power blinks

My financial statements says that I should contribute $30,000 to my education. I come out negative every year, so my loans are not subsidized.

I'm not sure how they calculate that number.

Can I add another stipulation?

You have more cars parked at your house than you have family members and only one of those cars actually runs.
Both of your parents are retired and neither one can afford health insurance.
You have buckets in your home that collect the rain water that comes through the ceiling during a storm.

I could go on and on... it's a reality for me.

Im a spoiled brat, always have been, golden spoon and everything... I simply LOVE powdered milk.

Yeah, for some reason the style nowadays is to look poor. I go into that American Eagle store and all I see are clothes that look like they've been in someone's attic for 20 years. I guess powered milk is similar.

F' that. I'm a Steve & Barry's fan. Nothing like getting a pair of cargo pants that actually look nice for $5.98 brand new.
