I really have one school in mind that i REALLY want to go to and i'm trying to think of a way to get to know some of the admins at the school so they can know who i am and maybe put in a good word for me during the interview or something

i have classmates who suck up wayyy to much to the deans of their dental school of choice (presents, non-stop annoying calls, general sucking up) and its not in me to be that annoying.

just wondering if anyone has any advice on how i could get to know the admins without being a fake annoying suck up lol .. thanks

you know people who send admins gifts? Wow, that's ridiculous if you ask me. Don't be one of those people. Get in on your own accord, through you're stats and who you are, not by "bribing".

I wouldn't say it was sucking up, but my state school's (my top choice, and also the place I went to undergrad so this was a little easier for me) head of admissions is an extremely nice lady. I just made sure to go in my early undergrad years and meet with her. I didn't suck up, just went in, talked to her, asked her some questions, made sure I was on track. I emailed her and called her a few times with questions, here and there, about applications and what not. After my interview, I was one of the 3 or 4 people that went up to her, shook her hand and let her know, genuinely, that everything they presented during the day was very well put together and impressive, and thanked her for giving me the opportunity to be there that day. I'm not sure if this helped a lot or not, but I'm sure it didn't hurt, and I got in.

I think above anything, it helped going in and letting them/her know I was very serious about them being my first choice, and also that dentistry was my first choice from the start, and never a "fall back option". Worst comes to worst you reapply and they remember you because they have met you on a personal level, and hopefully that gives you a little but of an advantage.

You have better odds of making it into said-school by keeping your grades and DATs up rather than thinking of a master plan to woo adcoms.

But if you wanna be more productive, I'd set up a one-on-one meeting with an admission adviser, bring all your transcripts and all your shadowing / volunteering activities written down and see what kinda suggestion they'll give to make you most competitive at their school.

4.0/25 scores.

If that doesn't work, then schedule 1 on 1 admissions meeting (to see where you are at), and go to designated Dental School special days (like workshops/diversity days/meet with Dean for a day therefore you can put this into "extra" education on AADSAS app). Some schools make note of your interest and some don't.

However, the best note to leave is a 4.0/25+

these people see hundreds of applications every-year.
they know a 'sucker' from a genuine guy.

try to be yourself. reaching out to the admins is a good idea AFTER the interview is done.

defintely go and thank the people who handled your application. They work really hard to put eveything together and a personal thanks is called for.

I agree. Personally, I sent thank you letter to the head of admissions committee for their hard work. Many people just send you thank you cards to interviewers which is fine and dandy, but the person working behind the scenes (the one that filters out your app or not, and gives you a final stamp of approval whether it be acceptance/interview) is rarely thanked. Always try to thank these people. They sift through thousands of apps, and choose yours out of the thousand of students to be interviewed. Heck, it might the final straw towards your acceptance since some schools re-review your app and make the final seal of approval through the adcoms+interviewers. It worked for me, and I suggest others to do so to.

thanks for the advice guys.... i already tried to make a 1 on 1 appt with the school advisors but they only talk via email or phone and the school is kind of far so i dont have a lot of opportunities to visit.

i guess i'll just hope for an interview and send a thank you letter afterwards
