I get excited every half hour because I whole heartedly believe the best time for an automatic email to go out is in half hour intervals.

I hope this fades by tomorrow

Sorry if this info can be found elsewhere,

I assume each TX school ranks their applicants numerically and if an applicant is high enough on the list where future interviewees won’t jeopardize their acceptance, they’re extended a pre match offer?

That sounds right to me

Each school has their own game plan.
Some send out a bunch of pre-match offers and then save some spots for their later interviewees.
Some, like Long, prefer to do their business on Match Day.

The only TX school I know of that ranks numerically in this way is McGovern (It’s probably not the only one, someone more knowledgeable can correct me). So if you have interviewed at McGovern and want to send a letter of intent or an information update you should do so before Match Day. After this point any correspondence will have zero impact on your waitlist position as your number in line will be determined before Match Day.

am i crazy or has it been a really slow day for texas folks
You're not crazy. Not much has been happening in any of the school threads!

I'm still naively hopeful that my schools are just, you know, having one last committee meeting today and then going to send out prematches at 5pm or something.

Hey guys. So I'm lucky to have multiple interviews, but they're either the top schools like UTSW/BCM or the "lower-tier" schools like El Paso and RGV. Although I'm really grateful, I would really love II from places like UTMB and TAMU. Anyone else in this situation?
Not that exact situation but my II's are all over the place. I have UTSW, Long, TCOM, TTU El Paso, and UTMB so far. My app screams primary care in underserved areas so some of those are a little ??? for me. Meanwhile, UH/UTT/UTRGV, which all align super well with my app, have completely ghosted me so far.

This is exactly how I feel! My GPA is "low" for Texas schools (3.79-ish) but I have a good MCAT score. I thought my application was overall competitive for schools like UTMB and McGovern, but I didn't think I had a shot at schools that value super high stats. Now here I am having interviewed at Baylor and Long, where I'm below their average GPA and MCAT scores + an interview at TCOM, but I still haven't heard from the MD schools that I thought I actually had a chance at. I'm so grateful for my interviews so far, but it's definitely a little strange!

I’ve kind of given up on trying to understand how this process works but here’s my theory:

Seems like every school has something unique that they look for and they really put a LOT of thought into crafting a perfect class. As an example: let’s say there are 50 applicants that have incredibly primary care focused apps, but there are only 60 spots at a school. It doesn’t seem like they’d want 50/60 kids all with the same interest. Rather they’d narrow it down and look specifically primary care interested applicants with a specific sub interest or experience. Then they’d fill the rest of their spots with people with other interests to get a more diverse class.

Personally I would’ve thought I would be an incredibly interesting candidate to certain primary care focused schools but maybe they had others who demonstrated a stronger fit and aren’t looking for more people with a similar interest so they moved on.

It’s confusing as heck, but I really am convinced that they do put as much thought into it as they say they do and there’s no sure fire way to guarantee interviews at every school because they’re just searching for very specific things.

This could be different at schools with bigger class sizes but that’s my uneducated take again.

exactly! i feel like i’m not a good fit for schools like utsw/bcm (didn’t prematch to southwestern but had an early interview). it feels like i’m gonna match to one of the lower ranked ones, which don’t get me wrong i’d be super grateful for, but i’d also like a chance at mid tiers too haha. but i guess there’s still a couple months to receive interviews.

Did you watch all the videos from TxHES? There are videos where admissions deans and directors are interviewed. And they have had office hours. Not that it really helps clarify things but you have more information available to you than other applicants applying to just AMCAS. As mentioned, we are not done yet.

I'd like to withdraw from an interview invite (prematched at a school I would prefer over this one). Should I email the admissions team to do so? There's no option to decline in their portal. Hoping maybe it opens up an interview slot for someone else.

Yes, you might need to do it by email. Please put something like "Re: Upcoming interview on November XX" or "Interview cancellation" in the subject line. Depending on how responsive this school is to phone calls, if your interview date is coming up very soon, you should call them to cancel as well as sending a brief email to have something in writing.

Congratulations to everyone who prematched! I just wanna ask, are there any other high stat applicants who didn't prematch? I feel a bit like an idiot right now haha

hang in there, ese2, lots of schools haven't released prematches so far

Team ESE! :headphone:

can someone explain to me what AOA is. Everyone keeps talking about internal rankings and AOA but I have no clue what's going on.

This will explain it fairly well, I think.

Texas re-applicant just dropping in to say that I've had radio silence from TMDSAS schools but 2 OOS IIs so far! I hope to get some love from Texas schools, but I'm grateful just for the fact of having IIs this cycle. I wish y'all the best of luck and hope you'll pass some of the luck back to me. :highfive:
Wishing you all the best, and thank you for the positivity!

Thank you! I’m also a reapplicant and it can be tough out there. Definitely wishing the best for you homie.

I always forget you're a reapplicant. This is your year. Speaking some positivity into your cycle. You deserve your spot!
I really appreciate it man, it means a lot. And I can’t wait to see all the schools you’ll get into, you’ve been killing it this year!

Anyone know which schools are friendlier towards lower mcats? I'm thankful for a few DO II in which one's turned into an acceptance. Have around a 3.83 gpa along with a 504 mcat with decent ECs.

Someone on SDN just prematched to McGovern with a 503. I am so happy for them!! You've always got a shot!

Coming back to say you spoke this into existence!! Congrats man, glad you can relax for the rest of the cycle
Man!!! I am so relieved! Thank you for the support and kindness. It means a lot! Now it's your turn!! Let's go!! Speak it into existence! Let's have it, lol!!

Nooooo! You gotta do it now, haha. Not for nay specific date, just the acceptance coming in general. You got this!
Can I jump on this bandwagon for a Texas II? I just got my first OOS acceptance yesterday and am so happy and grateful, but I still would love some Texas love

And congrats to you, btw!!

Just wanted to leave some positive vibes in these threads tonight. Going through all of the threads for Texas schools and seeing all of the love and support everyone gives each other is really inspiring.

Premeds as a whole get a lot of flack for being gunnerish but having been on this thread I just don’t agree with that sentiment at all.

The way everyone takes the time out of their day to counsel others and raise each other up really gives me a lot of hope and reassured me that I’ll be studying with kind, collaborative, amazing people for the next few years. Thank you all for being who you are and supporting me as well as everyone else through this journey.

Can anyone clarify rankings in medical school? I am so confused. I hear that some schools rank for AOA, some internally rank, and some don’t rank at all? How important is this? How would a residency program view a ranked vs. unranked applicant?

I know people usually say to wait until Thanksgiving to start freaking out, but is that different for TMDSAS? I am not trying to cause public panic, but I've just been feeling a bit down about my interviews (more specifically my lack of interviews) and I was wondering how much I should *actually* be freaking out at this point.

Rather than freaking out, I’d start planning the steps you are going to take to improve your application if you plan on reapplying. Don’t assume you’ve been rejected, but plan for the worst.

IMO that’s the best shot for anyone applying regardless of whether they have interviews.

I'd second this comment. Last cycle, I didn't hear anything from TMDSAS schools at all (or AMCAS/AACOMAS), but I was already setting myself up to be a strong applicant by ensuring I had started preparing for a re-app. This cycle, I've still heard nothing from TMDSAS schools but have had already 2 OOS interviews. In the meantime, try to breathe and remember that med school will still be there next cycle if this cycle doesn't work out. It's really one of those "prepare for the worst, hope for the best" situations, and it's definitely easier said than done, but that's the best way to go about it IMO.

Here to say I have also gotten radio silence from every Texas school I applied to and am also wondering if I will be re-applying next year. I feel like TX GPA/MCAT averages are only going up.

It's November, y'all 🦃 🍗🥟🌽🥧🍷 and the heck with 🥗🥙🥬🥒

What does that mean for our TMDSAS applicants?

1. The TMDSAS deadline for primary applications was yesterday. Schools who have been holding off on interview invitations "just to see what else will be coming in with later applicants" now have all their applications for this year.

2. Schools that had classified you as "maybe we'll interview you" could now decide you measure up well and will invite you.
There's nothing to do for now, though, but
-more waiting
-check your email & junk mail daily
-and if you're still in college, be sure to upload those lovely Fall 2022 grades to your TMDSAS portal.

3. We have seen pre-match offers from most schools, but still none from Baylor, U of Houston Fertitta, Long, or UT Tyler.
Don't feel that you must have a pre-match offer! 6 out of 7 who have interviewed will not receive any pre-matches.
Please feel relief if you are one of the lucky ones with a pre-match, and not more pressure.

4. Regarding #3, applying to medical schools is not like playing Pokémon. You don't have to collect them all. Please try to keep it in perspective and be grateful for the opportunities you get.

5. The toughest challenge you will face next is sitting at your Thanksgiving dinner table with lots of relatives who know nothing about how long the application cycle is asking "Did you get into medical school? Oh. Why not?"
Practice your lines: "With medical school applications, I won't know for sure until March. I'll be sure to share the news later."
And then change the subject! Or take the last muffin!

Definitely need the reminder on #4. SDN is full of very accomplished premeds and sometimes it's hard to not compare and go "oh damn, XYZ has 10 II's and 3 pre-matches, why haven't I collected more?!" Helpful to go back to my application and recognize that although I tossed out my app to all 14 TMDSAS schools, I probably am only a true mission/stat fit for maybe 5-6 of those. And besides, you only need (and can only attend) one!!

Happy November to everyone, may the secondary and II and pre-match gods smile upon you this month.
