I don't get it... sure, if there's even some remote chance that you might want to go to a place at which you're waitlisted, then I can understand holding that spot and seeing how your situation plays out. but the longer you hold onto a spot, the greater chance it affects other people's decisions as well. think about it: maybe other people have an urgent timetable in which they have to make their decision (some schools have early start-dates, some people may need to relocate earlier especially if they have a family, etc). therefore, by holding onto a spot "just for fun", you diminish that person's chance of finding out that they got into a school they really want to attend within the time frame they have to act.

look, if it makes you feel any better, call up your Mom and ask her to tell you how great you are for getting into all the schools you got into. then maybe tell her about that mean josehernandez94 on studentdoctor who made you feel bad. she'll give you a kiss and it'll be all better. 🙄

Most likely it would delay someone finding out one working day or two max. I don't think it is as harsh as you make it out to be. most waitlist movement occurs in June, maybe 1-2 a day at some place. Now what would be wrong is if they didn't withdraw immidiately after getting the acceptance. I figure they paid 100-130$ to apply to the school, they deserve to know if they would have gotten in.

I liked it the best out of all the schools to which I applied. What do you think?

Hey... i'm not trying to piss anyone off... I thought Cornell was a great school and it would be very cool to know that I go in there. I don't think i would go b/c i'm not all that infatuated w/ NY... but I don't think there's anything wrong with holding the spot. It doesn't take away anyone else's chance of getting in. Still, sorry if I offended anyone...

Yea it is a bit weird. I didn't apply there but I wish I did. NYU/Mount Sinai/Columbia get more threads than Cornell.
