i have similar stats and thought I would get an interview...

i have 3.67 overall, ~3.5 pre-pharm
leadership positions (executive board)
1 qtr of research

(i know i'm lacking pharm experience...)

still waiting for USC.............. (turned it in mid october)

i didn't get any mail today from UCSF but then again. my neighborhood has been notorious for recieved snail mail a bit later than everyone else.

sigh. i need a drink x_X

lol hopefully at UCSF 😀

Hahaha🙂 Does UCSF sends out letters in batches ? I mean if they just mailed a bunch, when is the next time they will mail a new bunch ?

Are you Russian too ? Where are all the Russians in pre-pharm ? Everyone i know is a pre-med or pre-dental.

By the way since I live close - I know some good places to party in this area.

great, my godfarther is Armenian, you should try Armenian food it's awesome. I just realized mail comes in on Sats too.

I called their office today, and the guy told me that they sent out EVERYTHING at once. He said though, however, that some regions may get more "delayed" than others. They apparently have a mailroom that sorts it out according to region before actually sending them.

I wonder how true this is, since no one has seemed to get positive news so far.. let's keep our fingers crossed! 🙂 This is driving me crazy because I'm home for winter break and didn't have my mail forwarded :[

I live a few blocks away from UCSF - I would have already gotten a letter by now if they sent it.
Thanks for calling by the way - I am going psychotic too - I post like every 15 minutes. I am only applying to two schools so for me UCSF is 50 % of my applications.

lol i have. its great

also. on a side note. it is the holiday season so snail mail could be delayed. which implies that that rejection letter can be coming today...tomorrow...maybe the day after?

so what you're saying is that as people are getting rejections letters others can getting invitiations?

but then, shouldn't there be at least some norcal people getting invitations by now then?

i was imagining this as a sort of "first cut" then some initiations. and the another round of rejections and acceptance. but this is all just me guessing with no reason/fact to back it up with 🙂

Maybe they accidentally sent out rejections to people who were supposed to get interviews, muhaha wishful thinking huh?!

That's what I thought too - at least that's the impression I got from reading last year's thread.

Thanks for calling them.

hi guys! i got my rejection letter today too. good luck to those who get interviews!😳 and to catchsomezzz i live around the san gabriel/monterey park/alhambra area 😛

Haha.. that's why I had my doubts, as well, since no one's heard any good news so far :\ Hopefully everyone will hear soon, and the anxiety won't last long. I just want to know! =P

I eagerly rushed home from work today to find no letter from UCSF. Like many of the previous post, I don't understand what UCSF is looking for. All the applicants who were brave enough to post their stats seemed to have deserved an interview slot. However, I have a gut feeling I'm going to receive the letter tomorrow. <sigh>

I like how UCSF handles this though. It's clear-cut: you are denied. There are no more chances, no more hopes; you are definitely not going there, hehe. It's better than "You seem good, but we don't know, maybe some other time we'll tell you".

I agree with you powertoold. If UCSF, a non-rolling admissions school, can review the files of 1500 applicants roughly 1.5 months, other pharmacy schools should be able to do so too. I like how UCSF tells you in December not in June/July of the following year regarding your chances of a spot in their upcoming class. I give them props for that.

Perhaps the P1 students can shed some light on the discrepancy of qualified applicants vs. the # rejection letters received so far. Inquiring minds want to know.....:meanie:

hi everybody,

i just got my interview letter today. I don't know if anyone has received one yet, but just wanted to inform you all and hope that yours will be coming too!!! I also live in norcal. good luck!!!

I just opened two letters, one from UCSF, the other from UCSD. No surprise, I got rejected from UCSF, but did get an interview invitation from UCSD, which I thought was odd, since I expected to be denied by both school right off the bat...

Hey BruTroj2012,

Where are you from? I am also waiting to hear back from UCSD. I think you are the 1st person to here back from them.

The University of Florida tuition is only $8k a year.

awwww, it's okay guys. ucsf is weird.

but i do love ucsd 😍 congradts to everyone who got an interview. it will be okay guys, you have others schools to hear from 🙂

guys, i don't think there's anything particularly weird about UCSF. they are in the position of hand-picking each of their students from the best candidates available. among other things, they are looking at promise. most people in this forum have phenomenal stats, but they can't accept everyone even if they wanted to. personally, i will have no problem being rejected at this or any other stage of the game, as the competition is truly mind-boggling.

Everyone should remember that stats aren't everything. UCSF was the one school I interviewed at that I really felt looked at the ENTIRE package. Honestly, you need to have it all: grades, rec letters, essays, passion/knowledge about the profession, etc. It's all about being well-rounded and being future leaders in the profession - which isn't for everyone regardless of your stats. Check out the thread us P1's started earlier, "Questions about UCSF?" Some P3's and P4's have also chimed in and their advice might be helpful for those of you who received interview invites. Good luck 🙂

I didnt believe you until i got my invitation to interview.. I wasnt planning on applying cuz my gpa isnt exactly somethign to brag about if you know what im saying. But my gf sort of insisted I should still apply if i liked the school no matter what the stats were. i like it how UCSF looks beyond grades, and focus on the individual. i think that says a lot about the program and the type of pharmacists they are used to mentoring.

For anyone still keeping hopes up and waiting for interviews, I suggest not losing hope. I openned my letter 95% sure it would be a rejection letter.

... maybe i'll see you at the interview miss Zwigglez (btw, lynn says hi back)

I actually got the interview letter myself on Wednesday and I'm still shocked that I got the letter.

Before I even started applying, I talked to the director at OSACA and said that I had to show my seriousness in applying, by retaking courses that I did poorly in, taking other courses that will help me along, and just really trying to understand what it means to be a pharmacist (good thing I have hella friends who are pharm students and pharmacists, so they can tell me what's going on, and I incorporated a conversation that I had with a friend who's a pharmacist into my PharmCAS essay).

Even though my cumulative science GPA was below 3.0, my postbac GPA was a 3.7, even though I've been working 50+ hours a week. I've done a lot of different things to show my seriousness, which being older, I've had the chance to do, like being on the board of directors for a couple of nonprofit organizations, volunteering at a pharmacy for over a year, etc.

I didn't even apply until I knew I was ready and this is what I wanted, and it shows in my applications. A friend of mine applied three times and didn't change too much in her application, and didn't retake the courses that she did poorly in, and she got rejected, even though her application was really well done.

I think that if you want to be seriously considered for UCSF, you have to show some really strong leadership ability, a good working knowledge of what a pharmacist does, and most importantly, show some passion as to why you want to be a pharmacist.

Good luck to everyone who made it this far--anyone being interviewed on 2/7?
