Keep the faith!!!

Just got accepted to RVUCOM......then got home after celebrating only to find an interview invite from KCOM in my email inbox. Wow...what a GREAT ending to a great day. I am about 99.9% sure I am attending RVU! Loved the school, people, and the state.....not to mention I have TONS of family there😉

Good luck to the rest of the underdogs! I am a reapplicant...and if you are interested in my stats, just search my earlier posts in this thread and you will find them!

😍

congrats! 👍

Congrats 🙂

Thanks guys!

And congrats CrissX! One of the best things about RVUCOM was how great the student body is - of all my interviews so far, more students came to talk to us there than anywhere else I think.

That's awesome!!! I LOVED my time in Ecuador! I went through HCJB Global and worked at Hospital Vozandes. My interviewer even knew of the hospital. It is one of the top 5 missionary hospitals in the world and it is staffed by Ecuadoreans. Irreplaceable experience!!! I can't wait to go back as a physician🙂

theone-

No I don't mind....and no, I am not Latino. I am a caucasian female. Sometimes I wish I were a Latina though!!!!

Haha yea, the front desk people were all about making sure everyone interviewing knew each other. When I interviewed I got there kind of early so I was sitting out by the pool all afternoon and the front desk guy kept bringing every new interviewee out there to meet all of us when they checked in lol. The weather is definitely gorgeous down there!

haha, HE told me about you when I was checking in! thats so funny.

I feel like an underdog! My mentor told me a 25P on MCAT was not good enough!! Talk about a total discouragement. I'm hoping that my MS in Exercise Phys helps my application....3.2 sci GPA...3.8 overall.

Should I retake the MCAT? Does a grad degree significantly strengthen your application?

Thank you!😎

If you apply early next year you should be fine, but if you have the time it couldn't hurt to retake the MCAT.

Thanks for your help!....I'm still planning on applying this year though. I'm pressing my "reviewers" to hurry up with my letters of recommendation. Am I too late??

to be honest with you, you're kinda are late considering your mcat score, it wouldn't hurt to try but again your mcat kinda makes things a little difficult this late in the game.

haha wow this thread is slowing down so much. All the usual suspects on here all got accepted by now and seem to not post much anymore😛

I suspect that this thread will pick up again as the year goes on. All the waitlist drama I am sure will keep it alive and kicking.

Yes..and I am getting more and more envious by the day. I have applied to 15 DO schools and the only interview invite i have had so far is TouroNY (which doesnt really count since its an automatic interview). Granted my apps weren't complete until mid-late sept. but I am starting to get nervous that the rest of my schools haven't contacted me yet.

My stats are solid I think (cumm 3.55, science 3.75, 27Q), but what worries me is that I have not yet taken orgo. Im taking orgo I now and Orgo II in the spring. Im worried schools aren't going to like the fact that I have no orgo and they may hold off on the interview invites.

I really just need ONE school to contact me and invite me to lift my spirits, bc right now I am just tortured with each day that goes by with no invites...I really hate this process.

We've all been there. If you've applied later than other people it's only natural you'll hear later than other people. I'm sure schools will get back to you, they just need to get to your file, don't worry 👍

First off I will say my comment is a good thing. You are NOT an underdog. You have a good GPA and a good MCAT. Underdogs I think was defined as one of either less then 3.2 GPA or less then 27 GPA? (someone can correct me)

Congrats CandyCane on the interview!!! 👍 I am about 100% sure I am going to RVU.

Again...stay optimistic fellow underdogs. I had my all my app mats in the first week of Sept. Not sure when many of the schools considered me "complete," but sometime after the 2nd week of Sept I am sure.

I just received interviews for SOMA and KCOM this week.....same week I got my acceptance at RVU. I LOVED RVU and have family in CO...so not sure I want to spend the money on the other interviews yet, we'll see.

just rejected from nsu. they can lick my privates. at least other schools rejection letters were encouragin. like "we recommend you do this to improve your application..." yada yada yada. but they were like. its competetive, u suck. maybe you would be interested in these careers instead. if I have to reaply. i won't be reapplying there. jerks.

btw I did not feel like this over my other rejections. lecom and kcom. but this letter was just came off arragont to me. grr.

lol "lick your privates?" There is alot of interesting things I could say about that... but I will resist the urge.

Anyways yeah, you can't let rejection letters discourage you, almost every applicant here, besides that crazy sendaniel will get more rejections that interviews. Just focus on the ones you haven't gotten a response from and go all out for them.

Speaking of rejection letters, my favorites was the one from DMU I believe.

"Thank you for your continued interest in Des Moines University. We have recently completed our review of your application for admission and regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you an opportunity to interview.

There is really no way to lessen your disappointment because we realize your application represents not only your time and effort to gain admission, but also your academic and personal aspirations. However, we urge you to read further to gain a better understanding of the challenges we faced in making our decisions this year.

All of our applicants, like you, are good candidates who have done well in demanding academic curricula and co-curricular activities. Because of the excellent qualifications of our applicants, our decisions were not reached quickly or effortlessly. In some cases we had to make very fine distinctions. The final results simply reflect our best efforts.

Again, we appreciate your interest in Des Moines University and wish you a happy and successful future."

Tee hee... Just let it give you drive (or desperation.. lol) to get in to your other schools.

Wow thats quite unprofessional in my opinion if they actually suggested you try other careers. Thats quite discouraging actually, I still have to get my last LOR and it there. Hopefully they wont act that way towards me.

Hopefully some good news soon bro🙂 Whats ur situation right now? Cant remember if you got interviews or acceptances?

applied to 15 schools (i count vcoms 2 campuses seperate) and have recieved 5 rejections so far, no interviews. rejected pre secondary from wcucom and dmu(which was polite). and rejected pre interview at nova lecom e and kcom. for some reason i haven't recieved a rejection from erie but I have a feeling its coming. Although I got my new mcat score and it only went up 2 points (23-->25) I figuered some schools would like that as I went up 3 points in the PS and down 1 in verbal (going from a 6 to a 9 in the PS). but I am just not hearing anything. Plus i am on hold at vcom and lmu wants to wait for this semesters grades. I don't know why a lot of these schools are waiting for this semesters grades. I mean I am retaking 2 pre req's Bio 1 and Physics 1 which as the way its going I will be recieving an A in both but what confuses me is I have anhilated numerous upper div bio's such as biochem and med botany etc. So I dunno maybe my upward trend, although substantial is just not good enough but I figuered going from a 1.8 sci gpa to a 3.0 sci gpa would be good enough to look past just bieng a 3.0. I am thinking of doing an SMP but I am getting the feeling looking at this thread that if my mcat were much higher I wouldnt need one.

Finally got my first interview! Its at Western-Lebanon. I didn't think I was gonna get in this application cycle because I'm posting a 3.0 sci 3.2 ovrl GPA and 26 MCAT. Its nice to have even a little bit of hope!

Yyeeeaahhhh!! Congrats man, you definitely deserve it 👍

Hi, guys! I've been lurking in the forums forever, but I thought I'd finally make an account to start posting. 🙂

cGPA 3.11, sGPA 3.10, MCAT 28O

I got accepted to RVUCOM!

I also have interviews with CCOM, KCOM, and LECOM-B upcoming.

Thank you to all of you for giving me the hope to push myself and keep going.

you need a higher mcat for an SMP

Didn't you apply later in the cycle?

Didn't you apply later in the cycle?

Yes, I believe he applied around the same time as me (mid-late sept).

I also have applied to 15 DO schools. So far all I have heard is:
LecomB-rejected outright
Azcom- waitlisted pre-interview
TouroNY-got the whole automatic interview thing but no date given yet.

Have not heard from anyone else. I guess it's kind of a good thing not to have heard because it seems like schools who are not interested in your application send you a rejection letter very soon. So, if it's been a month or so with no word, I assume that means schools have some level of interest.

I am just very concerned about this application cycle. All schools are reporting record levels o QUALIFIED applicants. They just seemed spoiled for choice.

I have mentioned my stats:
cumm 3.55
science 3.75
MCAT-27Q
Avg EC's great LOR's.

In other years I would be fairly certain that I would get a good number of interviews and almost certainly a few acceptances. This year I truly am concerned that I (and ppl with similar stats) will be rejected by everyone.

My stats aren't amazing, but they are certainly competitive for DO schools, but I am worried that "competitive" just isn't going to cut it this year.

What do you guys think? Is there reason for concern that someone with my stats (and that I applied mid-late sept), could conceivably get turned down by all 15 DO schools?

Absolutely anything is conceivable, however I don't think it's likely. I think they are just taking awhile to get through all the applications. Time is a pretty crucial thing in this process and the sept. appliation bunch is behind some of the initial rush. I am a re-applicant, and if this process has taught me anything it that you have to expect the unexpected.

aww man that sucks. Im im a similar boat, except I have one interview (Touro-NY). Rejected pre-secondary at WVCOM and DMU. Hold at VCOM and AZCOM (VCOM wants my retake mark for OChem 2). Waiting to hear from KCOM, Western, PCOMs, and CCOM. Still finishing up UNE and waiting for last LOR for NSU.

Im also gonna go for an SMP if i dont get in at Touro-NY as Ive pretty much accepted Im not getting interviewed at the other schools. Which SMPs were u thinking?

Yea, of course anything is possible, I am just trying to get a sense of how likely it is that I will get turned down by all 15.

As I said, in previous years I would be very confident, but this year it just seems insane. If I had applied in June I would also feel great about my chances but I couldnt take the MCAT until August so my apps weren't done until mid-sept.

I also am wondering when I will start hearing from my schools. Aside from the rejection from lecomb and waitlst from azcom, no one else has responded. When i call and ask the schools they all say the same "you can be contacted for an interview anytime from now until april".....great, thats very helpful.

Do you think I should be hearing soon considering my mid-late sept apps, or will it likely be months longer?

haven't posted in a while but....

accepted!

I think it helps that i'm from the area

It's hard to say, some schools you hear back from in chronological order, others just keep picking the best and making others wait. Just speaking from past evidence, I have seen others that applied mid sept get interviews and ultimately acceptances, not as many as they would have received if they applied earlier, but by no means is it a death sentence. I would say call each school to verify where you are at. I did this earlier in the cycle and received two interview invites when I called in. Couldn't hurt.

Also, I think just keep your thread alive, you get alot of feedback there from people in the same boat.

cGPA-3.22, sGPA-3.17, MCAT 28R

I had know idea what to expect this application cycle, but I have been pleasantly surprised at how well my application was received. I applied to 7 schools and have interviews at 6 of the 7 (the only one I haven't heard from is OSU so that is still alive at least). I have had two of the interviews already and I was accepted to both! Lecom-B and LMU. I pretty sure I will be attending LMU as I actually like the area 🙂 Anyways underdogs keep your heads up! Now that I'm in I'm taking it as easy as possible and spending as much time as possible doing whatever I feel like!!! It's a great feeling..😀

congrats man, thats amazing!! when were your apps complete and submitted?

Am I considered an Underdog? 3.67cum, 3.51 science, 26P. But I applied late and finished with all my secondaries mid-October.

I got a similar letter telling me to look into their MPH and allied careers. Oh well, I feel your pain Dr. Yiot! Pretty much on hold at every school until my new mcat score comes in (which is in Jan so goodbye Fall 201🙁). I can't wait to get all my stuff in early and ready Day 1 of next cycle!

I also got a rejection from VCOM-CC, but what was funny was that they said "Thanks for interviewing Mzeep but we cannot offer you a place in our class blah blah blah". Yeah never interviewed here, but thanks anyway. At least they didn't tell me to look into different careers.
