Sorry to hear that. But at least you were accepted to Nova. 🙂 (who by the way seem to have forgotten about me since my interview 3 wks ago).

damn man, sorry to hear that. At least you got that Touro invite and you already got into Nova! South Beach! lol Keep ur head up, you're gonna be a doctor in 2015, thats what matters.

Thanks guys. It would suck so much more if I didn't have an acceptance, but it still really really sucks. 🙁

I hear ya... I'm still waiting on my decision :scared::scared:

...and I just got rejected from Western post-interview...****ing **** 🙁

Damn, really sorry to hear that man. Don't even know what to say, I know how much you wanted it.

It's okay though, time to move on, Nova is an amazing school and you're really lucky to have a backup like that. I'm sure you'll have a great time in a great place on your way to becoming a doctor. Keep your head up 👍

"Dear DbDan

Thank you for applying for admission to Western University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, Pomona and/or Lebanon campus. Your application has received extensive review by the Admissions Committee; however I regret to inform you that you were not selected to interview for a position in the 2011 entering DO Class.

I appreciate your interest in the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, and I wish you good luck in your future educational endeavors."

ummm.... what? I just got this e-mail an hr ago

That is weird since I thought you already interviewed there. I'm guessing it's either a complete mistake, or they sent you the wrong form letter for waitlist/rejection. Hope it's the former.

But if it's not a mistake, will you be sending in your AZCOM deposit? I'm leaning towards them.

I did already interview there. I'm entirely confused. They don't e-mail post-interview decisions either so I'm not sure what the deal would be. I'd hope its just a mistake. If I do get rejected I'll be sending in my AZCOM deposit for sure. I don't see myself getting any more interviews and AZCOM vs. Western is the last decision for me. AZCOM has had the edge in my head over the past week regardless :laugh:

That's weird, did you apply to the Lebanon campus? Maybe that's what they're referring to?

Nope. My dad called me to inform me I was rejected today. Hooray for that... at least UCLA won today :laugh: AZCOM Class of 2015. I kinda regret passing up my KCOM interview now but whatever lol

Just got an interview at VCOM 😀 after 15 rejections last year, this sure feels good. Now I just gotta get in:xf:

And what a game that was.

Sorry to hear about the bad news 👎

any rejection really does suck but maan, id take that nova acceptance any day over western!

Thanks guys. I feel a bit better, but I'm just a little disappointed knowing that I'm leaving socal (friends, gf, etc) next year.

All I can do is move on, but I'm definitely happy I have Nova as a backup.

sorry to hear that dude. UCLA did make me happy today. On the bright side though now you know you plan for next year and you can start organizing accordingly! at my kcumb interview there were a few people from socal and we were all complaining about how western is keeping us in this limbo of silence!

Indeed. Its going to suck to leave SoCal but I chose LA for my rotation site 3rd year so I may be back depending on what I actually get.

Hey guys, I've been lurking around this thread forever but have been all to scared to post anything. I've finally built up the courage and was just curious of what you guys thought my chances were for an interview if I applied early enough in an application cycle for DO schools.

Science gpa- 3.3
Overall gpa- 3.5
MCAT- overall: 24P
Bio. Sci.:9
Phys. Sci.: 7
VR: 8

-I am a senior biology major currently and have taken higher level elective biology classes (such as: parasitology, immunology, micro, molec. genetics, etc.) in addition to the required pre-requisites.
-My extracurriculars are very strong (I think) with over 200 hours clinical hospital volunteering on Pediatrics floor where I often perform professional magic for the kids and have magic shows sponsored by child life. I also am involved on campus with several community service based organizations and am president of one of the larger community service organizations.
-My letters of recommendation are diverse and very strong with a recommendation from a DO as well (extremely strong letter).
* Thanks a ton for your input.

I'm assuming you will be applying next cycle, you will get some interviews if you apply super early, but I would totally take the mcat again in Jan if I was applying next year. thats my suggestion though. good luck! and either way APPLY EARLY!

I got an interview with the same stats but also had a graduate gpa and my section scores were different but still had a 24Q...Just stay positive

I'm actually looking into pursuing a masters degree in micro and molecular biology post-graduation (I graduate in May). Is this a good "mean time" plan? I'm very passionate about the biological sciences but my overall career goal is becoming an Osteopathic physician.

Thanks a ton!

ps.- thanks for the input above. it's nice to hear encouraging comments rather than the typical "you can't do it" stuff I usually receive. I actually feel like I have a shot when it comes to applying.

Definitely don't give up! I always planned on medicine as a career until college when I compared myself to all of the perfect pre-meds and thought I didn't stand a chance. After at least 6 years of trying to figure out what I want to do (not considering medicine) I realized that the only thing I want to do is be a physician. Even though it was expensive, it was (is) incredibly difficult with all of the classes combined with a crazy work schedule... I got in! I am SO happy I didn't listen to those people who asked why I was even bothering to apply or to myself (who thought I couldn't do it). If it is truly what you want to do and you work hard, you will be successful and happy - you will always wonder "what if" if you don't try.

A post-bacc or science focused masters program is a great way to go. It shows your interest and can also strengthen your credentials. Good luck!

k im thinking of dding more schools to send my primary out 2. i know its late in the season but I am thinking go big or go home and if I have to reapply next year....so frigging be it. but at this point and time I figure im verified and complete so LETS GET IT ON. ok heres who ive applied 2 thus far

nsu com--->rejected
kcom----> rejected
lecom bradenton-----> rejected
lecom erie---->app under review and its been so for a month
umd som---->complete....crickets
wvsom--->decision deffered
lmu dcom---->first choice school, waiting for fall grades(i have a good feeling about this)
vcom cc-------> on hold for fall grades
pcom----->crickets
pcom georgia------->crickets
pcsom-------->crickets
wcucom----->pissed off cause appearantly they screen applicants regionally and in the cib, they don't list that
unecom---->crickets
nycom----->never submitted secondary.....kinda got burnt out at the time but i am going to fill it out. one of those schools i kinda wish i didn't send my primary 2 cause i am not a huge fan of cities but i love philly.

what do you guys think. my gpa is low but mcat is average for a bunch of schools that i applied 2. i have a huge upward trend and a wealth of extraccurriculars. (work in a doctors office etc.) so which schools do you guys recomend. im not big on urban schools

I think it depends on your stats a bit and what you mean by low. If your gpa is below a 3.0, I just feel that many schools use that as a HARD cutoff. I'm not saying it can't be done, but after reading through so many reapplicant stories on here, it seems like great ECs but < 3.0 == no interviews, and as soon as it is bumped over 3.0, people get considered.

William Carey does take OOS but they don't send secondaries to them early in the cycle, as far as I can tell. Just be patient. Did you look at ATSU-SOMA? That's relatively rural. Also, what about TUCOM-CA and NV? Henderson is definitely a (small) city but if you go a few miles away it gets really rural. Same with Mare Island. There are rural spots nearby.

i just withdrew from an erie interview and a pikeville interview, hopefully someone from this thread will benefit from that!

I don't know about any schools to add, but I think after your fall grades come in, you'd have a really good chance at LMU. It really seems like you'd be a good fit for them. Especially with your enthusiasm for the school and your preference to be in a more rural area.

hey thanks for that. i really hope so, i have been talking to graceeuphoria. she has been a great help and is a really nice poster on here (she goes to lmu)

Welcome to the club bro! You, me, and moose are gonna rock it in KC next year.

It already looks like you've got the KCUMB logo going on in your avatar 😀

Another Underdog beats the odds, do not let anyone tell you that it is impossible. My pre-med advisor tried to tell me it was a waste of time and money applying because I would never get in anywhere with my terrible MCAT score. Well I am living proof that it is not all about the numbers game. They actually do look at you as a whole person.
Good luck everybody!!!!!!

GPA: 3.85
MCAT: 21R
Congrats...You really beat the odds with that 21 MCAT. Now I really know that I have hope applying next cycle with my sub par stats.

the percentage of underdogs rockin' and rollin' is awesome. good work everyone!

Question for those that have gone to the TouroNV interivew, I was wondering if you guys could give me an input on how you felt about the school overall, I have an intvite from them and I'm wondering if I should bother going as I loved KCUMB as well as KCOM. thank you in advance.

If you can afford it its worth it. Plus its a trip to vegas for the weekend, make a party out of it if you can haha

I went last year and it rubbed me the wrong way. I felt like it seemed like a costco turned into a med school and I wasn't really feeling the love the student body supposedly had for it. At the same time though, there are people on here that absolutely LOVED it. As with anything, its all about where you'd be happy. If you want to practice medicine in Nevada though its a great school. I'd visit if you don't have your heart set on somewhere else entirely. I knew I"d rather go to AZCOM over Touro and KCOM was just going to cost too much money for me to go. I would have taken all of my interviews if money wasn't an issue.

thanks for the info. I'm debating whether I can afford to lose some money in vegas or not!

wow denied an interview at CCOM 😡 . I know people at these school with worse mcat's than me.

at these school

But with better english... just kidding.

Hey numbers guaruntee nothing in this game we play. Medical school admissions is a small part our grades, MCAT, experiences, etc, and a large part luck. Chin up. There are other schools.

things just got alot more complicated. I just accepted to to umdnj graduate school of biomedical sciences for the SPRING semester. with 5 rejectios, 8 holds its looking awfully tempting.

Apply to WVSOM, the Dean is also a professional magician. His office has all of these really cool promotional posters from shows that magicians have performed, most of them are autographed because he knows most of the magicians personally. The magic thing will definitely get your foot in the door there, I would think.

thats prescisely what im gonna do. its nite classes (so far 3x a week) so at first i will commute and if i dont here back at all or fail this cycle, then I will move down there. i good friend of mine from undergrad goes to umd, hes a douche:laugh: but i miss him and its gonna be a pimping good time. although its 90 minutes from my apt, its what i gotta do cause i have a wife with 2 dogs. relocating is gonna be a BITCH and for just 15 weeks its NOT worth looking for a place that accepts dogs, and a new job for my wife. I am gonna try and schedule all my classes on the same days and see what happens. if I can't handle the commute then Ill look for a place. I have commuted an hour 3x a week the last year of my undergrad though so i know i can do it. also, if I don't here back, ill have a semester of graduate school courses under my belt and since i have the whole summer we can take our time with employment, bills and moving for the following year since i know i wouldnt be hypothetically starting med school until fall 2012.

I'm a non-trad student, post-bac student with 2.92 cGPA 3.73 sGPA (straight As for pre-med, post-bac work)
MCAT - 22K, yeah I know, I messed up on this test, couldn't sleep the night before, drove 3 hours to take the test, I suck
215 hours volunteer in hospitals and schools, 60 hours research on neuro, 100+ hour shadowing DOs in various fields, work full time

Sent my aacomas to be verified last week, can't sleep, need to get an interview...It's going to be a long few weeks...my chances are very dim, if any

Applied to the 4 DO school nearest the panhandle, any other schools I might have a chance? (low on funds so need to choose carefully)

Hope I get an interview..need to get some sleep!

you are kinda late in the cycle, its good youve succeeded in your postbacc and that helps a lot. your mcat is low but people do get in with that score. you are verified so if you have the funds, good luck this year man. i hope you get in, this process is random and crazy so you never know whats gonna happen. your chances are on the lower side but who knows. also, if youdon't get in than all youll have to do is retake the mcat and score like 4 points higher and you should be good. best of luck. as for adding schools I would as schools by you are pretty competetive.

The sGPA would have gotten you interviews had you not blown the MCAT. If you fail this cycle, come back stronger next cycle.

your response could have been a little nicer, i mean cmon he knows he did not do well on the mcat but i don't think he needs to here that his science gpa would have gotten him interviews had he not "blown" the mcat. i do like how you ended it with coming back stronger just wish you could have worded it a little differently like "your science gpa could have gotten you interviews if you had done better on the mcat" or your science gpa could have gotten you interviews if you didn't do as bad as you did" would even be a little better. just a little tip triage.cause i like ya
