Thermodynamics Convention..?

Have a thermodynamics exam in physics tomorrow and want to make sure I have this right in my head.

Clockwise PV diagram = heat engine = heat in/work out = positive work done by the gas.

Counterclockwise PV diagram = heat pump = work in/heat out = positive work done on the gas.

Thermo was ok for gasses but went downhill really fast after we started talking about entropy, liquids and solids. Best made up formulas you'll ever get your hands on!
