Hello. I'm 29 who graduated from university of phoenix in BS Management (online) who now is looking to change career into pharmacy. I have always been passionate about health care field, especially pharmacy but never pursue the idea.

Anyhow, my question is it unusual for someone at my age to think about pharmacy school. Would I even have a shot of pharmacy school due to the fact that I have my undergraduate from an online school. On top of that I graduated with a very low gpa 2.8 . My low gpa is not because I'm stupid or anything just that I lacked enough respect for education.

Any thoughts ?

Thank you.

Honestly, we had a student in his late 40's in our class. That GPA is pretty low though and and online program would not provide the classes needed to apply most likely. Therefore, If you do your prereqs and do well in them I think you could have a decent chance.

yeah my thought is ... that it is not a good idea unless you re-do college at a 4 year school

I guess fortunately, your degree at UofP didn't meet your pre-reqs; so in order to even apply to pharmacy school you are going to have to take classes in a brick-and-motar school. Your age is not an issue, but your degree is not going to do much other than hurt your cGPA 🙁

If you take your sciences in a classroom/lab, and you do well (A's with a smattering of B's); then yes you stand a shot.

Ultimately it depends on if you can do well in your science classes and prove you are capable of more than you did for your Bachelors.

Good luck.

Is it possible to take prerequisite at local cc.

Ooo, Oo, ooo. Can we sing this as a duet? I'll start humming in C.

I couldn't agree more. Online colleges are scam. Period. I'll leave it there.

Aren't there pharmacy school that offer grade replacement opportunity as D.O. offers ?

I would suggest that you go to the pharmacy forums and read about the current environment and pharmacy in general. In addition, get a job as a pharmacy technician to see if you like it. Not only will it be something to talk about during your interviews but also to see whether or not it is the profession for you. You don't want to be $200k in debt only to realize you'll hate every moment of your next 3 decades.

pharmmed 2016 i can concur on the wishing i was not indebt and trying to find something else better (for me).

Also, realize that getting a job as a pharmacist is not that easy anymore.....it is becoming more and more saturated....

I would think very hard about it......

Not harder than getting a job as software programmer
