Thinking about when to send update/LOI to school

I want to send an update letter and a letter of interest to my top choice school, who is very receptive of such letters. The update letter will include my Fall 2010 grades, so it has to be sent in January. However, I was thinking if I should work on the letter of interest over thanksgiving break and send it to the school early next week OR wait until January and send both letters together? I feel like if I send the letter of interest next week, it may be shoved aside because they aren't sending out invites again until January, however, sending the update and LOI two separate times may show even greater interest. Thoughts?

Wait until Jan. Send LOIs when you have something significant to report. LOIs should have leave an impact. IMO, sending one now and January will just lessen the weight of both.
