hey all, I wanted to start a thread for those of us who are on our third try for the just out of reach vet school acceptance letter! I figured we could use this to vent, update each other, or just plain talk about whatever. Good luck to all of us this cycle!!!

Whoop whoop! Third timers rock! They are sexy beasts!

Hi!

I am also a third-timer. Interview at Ohio last year, waitlist at Michigan.

The vet that I have spent the most time with got into Penn on her third try! She is a fantastic vet and graduated at the top of her class. 🙂

This year I had to move home to Ohio to make it work at I'm in a master's program in bio.

I just submitted VMCAS and this is totally the year. :luck:

Oh man... I'm getting panicked now... For you third timers, what prevented you guys from getting your acceptance letters? Mediocre grades? Low GRE scores?!?!?

I'm just about finished with my apps, but now, I'm worried that I will get rejected from all the schools that I applied to!

Wishing all of you third timers the best of luck!!:luck: You all really deserve it. I could not imagine going through this process three times but perseverance does pay off!

Just now you are having that worry because of this thread??? And your question is a ridiculous thing to ask people, fyi.

Good luck, 3rd timers! This 2nd timer admires your persistence and ambition!

And suddenly I am feeling slightly left out being a 2nd timer! Maybe because I am verging on old I am a pseudo third timer too? Every year is like an eternity at my age!

No just kidding. Good luck to all the third timers and all the re-applicants in general! This could be our year!

Of course I am not actually a 2nd timer yet, as I am yet to submit. Last letter came in earlier today, so now I just need to hit submit and cough up some money. Somehow I am finding it really hard to do. I have committed to doing it before I go to bed tonight. No guarantees on when I am going to bed though.

Yep waitlisted two years in a row....that stings. So this is the year!

It's my third try as well!

Interviewed at OSU x2
Waitlisted at OkSU x1

Moved to Ohio from NJ.
I'm thinking third time is a charm!

Good luck 3rd timers!

I interviewed at OSU my first year as well. Their interviews are so tough.🙁

I am psyching myself up for this year-- hopefully I get the chance to get it right!!

Read this and thought about starting a thread for fourth timers, but I'm afraid it would be awfully lonely in there. 🙁

Causticus, you have the most persistence! I watched a vet power through surgery on an unadopted dog that wouldn't stop bleeding during a spay yesterday-- vets certainly need persistence and patience! Oh, and nerves of steel- which doing VMCAS 4 times would certainly give you.

I sat out an app cycle so I guess I'm a pseudo-4th timer. 🙂

3rd timer. Was one away from getting into TAMU last year. Hopefully this will be the last time we have to apply.

3rd timer here! They do say third times the charm so maybe this is our year!

Wow there are more of us than I though!

P.S. Hear, Hear Nyanko!

Third time, applying to three schools....maybe I'll get three acceptance? Three is lucky right? :luck:

Third timer here 🙂 Guess I should change my "second time is the charm" title thingy....Goodluck to us 😀

I agree that i did not think there were so many of us third timers! Where were you all hiding last year???? I'm really excited for this cycle because I didn't find SDN until late into last year. I love the energy and constant updates. Can't wait for the third timers to get those interviews. 🙂

I didn't find SDN until after my interview at OSU last year. Then it was too late to do anything!

So I don't mean to overpost....but it just hit me that the cycle has started again. Filling out the apps and everything was so routine (sadly enough) but I just realized we've applied to school and we'll be waiting for interview invites soon enough. It sounds weird, but it is so surreal to me right now. I'm excited and scared all the same, but it didn't hit me until now because I'm so used to disappointment I guess...Yay 3rd Timers!!!

it's my first time actually submitting an application, but this is the third time I've started the process with my undergrad pre-health committee. I was ready to apply in terms of pre-reqs + GREs, and had enough vet/animal experience to at least give it a shot... but I weanied out twice in a row! So I kinda gave myself my own rejection notice... and am therefore kind of a third timer?

:biglove:Love, kisses, back pats and best wishes to this group from the "GURU" (LOL) of VMCAS applications. Whoot Whoot!

FYI (half of UGA's class this year are second timers, waitlisters or called back from the orginally rejected list) So HANG IN THERE BABY!

3rd time!!! madison rejected, madison waitlisted, opening up the possibilities: madison, isu, csu!!!!! common ISU!!!

Hello VMCAS fans I am amazed so many of us could wade through all that data entry 3 times. I bet we are all copy-and-paste experts by now. I have a master's and am finishing my PhD just waiting to get in. I figure if i don't get picked soon I'll have to become a professor at a vet school instead. Good luck gang. It will be a long 3-6 months waiting!!

I'm joining the other fourth timer! As I like to say "fourth time's the charm!". (Interviewed at UC Davis last year, but wasn't granted a spot)😳

One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go!! This is our year, for sure.

We "fourthies" have to stick together - good luck to you!! :xf:

It took me 3 times to get in....but I am not feeling that sexy beast part.... I wish I could though 😉

And your question is a ridiculous thing to ask people, fyi.

No, it should be "IMO", not FYI.

I don't think it's a ridiculous question at all. It's a darn stressful time and I can name you many a reason I didn't get in previously, and many reasons I got in the 3rd. Knowledge is power, but it does really apply to you personal situation. Ask away...that is what this form IS for, IMO.

That's great for you, but not everyone wants to talk about it right now, and that isn't what this thread is for. If the poster wants to know that information from 3rd year applicants, he can post a thread asking about it*, but not everyone, especially those who haven't yet gotten in, is really okay with talking about their reasons for not getting in on here. It also comes across as rude.

*if there is one thing Assumption knows how to do, it is post a thread - he/she/it posted like 4 threads asking about whether it is ok to omit things like past GRE scores and old transcripts from the VMCAS application

I was also a third time applicant, as are many other people in my class! Good luck to everyone, try to have some fun in the meantime to take your mind off the application process, because once you're in, you will be missing that free time! 🙂 :luck:

Hello third-timers! I admire your persistence and dedication!! 😉

As I was reading your posts on this thread, I see that some of you have been wait-listed....I thought (perhaps foolishly) that if you are put on a list, then you are automatically "in" the following year. Is that not true?? This is gonna be a tougher road than I anticipated.

Definitely not the case. If you are waitlisted and you don't get in off the waitlist that round, you start all over again the following year. You could get in the next time, or be waitlisted again, or you might not even get that far! You never know, as the applicant pool changes every year.

Yep....the waitlist means nothing for the next year. I was waitlisted at Purdue two years in a row and nothing! Don't give up hope, just know that each year is a new beginning, but hopefully you have gained more to offer each year that you don't get in.

Each year is a new crop of applicants!

As for an anecdote, there is a (really cool) person here who was admitted to two schools one cycle and decided she didn't want to start school right away due to another opportunity. One school allowed her to defer and the other didn't. She reapplied to the school that did not allow her defer the next year and was not accepted. So even being accepted one year is not an "automatic in" for the next one!

This'll be the third time for me, but I applied for class of 2008 and 2010. Yep, you read that right, I've been trying to clean up a bad undergrad GPA for about 7 years. Third time's the charm, third time's the charm...

Im on my third round, but this time only applied to the islands. Good luck everyone! :luck:

I am majorly stressing about my OSU interview. I had a dream last night where they interviewed everyone in a big room with tables: two interviewers and two applicants. And I did terrible.. again!! 🙁 I was so sad and I knew they wouldn't be calling.

I have a practice interview with my former debate coach tomorrow. I am hoping to really get my interview skills under control.

Hearing "no" so many times had started to make me feel like it's completely impossible to get in. I know I need to keep a good attitude but it's hard.

I keep telling myself that it only takes one acceptance.

You are not alone! 🙂

I had a dream after I hit the submit button that applications had to be hand delivered to each school. When I turned in my app at UT they told me to wait for my interview and they'd call me in. The next thing I know I'm pulling a frantic U turn on the interstate because I left before they called my name and had to beg Dean Brace to let me have another interview. :scared:

I was so excited to see this thread pop up. I completely forgot about it! I haven't heard back about any interviews yet...will be january at the earliest for me :scared: But I am sending out good vibes for all those with interviews coming up!

I wanted to ask you guys about the Caribbean programs. Would any of you consider going there? and if not would you mind sharing why in each of your situations? I'm in the runnings this year but had two rejections already! and thinking about the Caribbean but the loan situation is turning me off there.

i'm not a third timer but i have had friends who are and they are going there. If i dont get accepted in a couple of years i will also consider going there. Ive heard mixed things depending on the type of person you are but nothing THAT negative that it will keep me from going there. I have heard a lot of positive things too. (i cant remember specifics so i dont want to post something that may be incorrect). The main point is you get the same type of education, that is the most important thing. The only negative things i have heard have to do with non-education type things.

The only things that will keep me from going there are $/loans-not only for tuition, but room&board too! i heard the prices are really expensive (kind of like how prices are always hiked up for tourists), and then the last thing that would keep me from going there is the distance (from family and bf).

If i dont get in this year i plan on applying again and including carribean, canadian, and overseas schools.

Yeah me too, are you gonna be relying on just loans to fund you through the vet program? The only reason I ask is because that's what I'm most likely gonna do if I get in! I just want to be sure that its possible!

Caribbean's not an option for me unfortunately. Having a hubby, a mortgage, and other serious commitments to living on one place moderately permanently just doesn't make it feasible to haul myself off to the Caribbean for four years.

I would consider going to the Caribbean, but I really don't want to. I don't want to leave my whole life behind. I guess that is how everyone feels unless you have some serious commitments like marriage, kids, mortgage mentioned above. I also am not convinced that it doesn't totally suck down there.

Also, I feel like I'm so close! Just need to get a handle on the interview! 🙂

This is my first time applying, but I just want to say I appreciate the advice and encouragement of those of you who have done this more than once. I hope you all get in this round, but I also hope that you don't stop frequenting the forum every once in a while when you go off to vet school; you're the ones who seem to go the furthest to make this such a good resource and support. Thank you.

i dont know if this was asked in general or for me but i'll answer it 🙂

I have been saving money for a while and especially now that ive been on this 2 yr fellowship. i dont have much lol but enough for 1 yr of school. But since i want to put some of it into a Roth IRA and other things... i guess it will only pay for half a year haha.

So yes, i will be relying on loans primarily. Most of my friends who are in vet school only relied on loans because they went in right after college and didnt have much money saved.

its possible! and if you're worried... once you get in just make sure you get good grades and you can apply for scholarships 😀
