Third year rotations

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I remember feeling like that not too long ago and no med school rotations will prepare you adequately for intern year. And it is absurd to expect a 3rd year student to think like a physician. If a med student can think like that, you won't need residency training. It is quite normal to feel inadequate at that stage. As long as you recognize it and do your best, you will eventually catch up but it will be a long while before you can start thinking like a physician. To make up for it as a DO student, you can set up your 4th year rotations where you want to be and actively seek out good rotations. And some 3rd year rotations will consist of shadowing because their expectations for a 3rd year student are low.

FTFY sir or ma'am.
It's not always med schools who sponsor those crappy rotations. Some preceptors/attendings don't expect a lot from a 3rd year student, whereas others are just bad at teaching, which leads to inevitable 'shadowing'.
