Hmmm..... a new strategy!!!

I'll just tell the MSTP, "Sorry, I forgot to get my PPD! Guess I can't go back to med school!"

If only I didn't want to be a pathologist so badly.....
Yeah, and they'll just respond with, "Tough luck cookie. Guess you ain't gettin paid anymore! No MD/PhD for you!"

Ooh. 🙁

Hey, once you have your MD can you vouch for your own immunization?
Nope! And neither can my parents, says the form.

"Must be MD, DO, RNC, PA, NP, or RN", says the form. I don't even know what an RNC is. 😳

👍 : My whole residency Internet account shebang has been activated.

👎 : I log in to find that NONE of my immunizations have been verified.

Welcome to america!

i can understand ppd... i have worked with some pretty nasty/sick people. but basic life support? forget it. there are many reasons i chose pathology and avoiding chest compressions and mouth to mouth is on the list.

Yeah, but just think about it - do you really want to have that MD after your name and end up in a situation where you don't know how to do chest compressions in an emergency? You may say, "Well, I just wouldn't tell people that I was a doctor." And that may be well and good but it won't work all the time!

I know my BLS algorithms and such but the day I have to use it on the job is the day I probably quit. Most important part of the BLS algorithm: Call for help. There are a million gunner types in hospitals who LOVE running codes and responding to them. All you have to do is go out in the hallway and yell "CODE" and there will be flocks of white coated gunners descending on you saying things like, "Move, people!" and "let's go, people!" They always say people.

Small "a", eh? 😉

Nana what is your definition of "America"?

(I personally use America to refer to the United States and North America for US + Canada.)
Well, we have two whole continents that sport the name - North America and South America. I have met people from outside of the US who think it is dumb to describe only people from the US as American, on that basis. I tend to agree with them. Historically speaking, America is the term used to describe the lands "discovered" by Amerigo Vespucci to be different than the Asian continent. (I find the word discovered to be a bit ******ed and eurocentric as people were already inhabiting these areas.) The term is certainly not patent to the US. It implies nothing unique.

Sorry, it's now part of public discourse. People don't care about history anymore. It's "America" now (the US is).

:barf:

I consider myself to live in live in the United States of America or the United States, for short. I do not live in a country called America. I live in a region called America, but it's alot bigger than the US. I think GW honestly believes that he is the president of a country named "America" though. That's frickin sad.

...back to the original vein of the thread...

So the Dept of State came up with this nifty idea of e-visa forms in which I fill in a visa application form online and the thing spits out a barcoded .pdf at the end which I print out and take to the consulate. The point is to cut down on processing time i.e. time which would normally be spent entering all my information on the form into the system.

The thing about PDFs that they like to overrun printer memory. It prints to the same line about halfway down the page - and stops.

Yes I've tried printing single pages only.
Yes I figure my parents should get a new printer.

Am I helping to keep the randomness down? 😀

This seems a kind of silly argument, to me. Historically, the US has been referred to as "America" because (I think) we are the only county with "America" in our name - you can blame the framers of the Constitution for that, if you'd like 🙂

Referring to the US as "America" is as old as the country itself. Washington in his first inaugural speech referred to "the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people". Of course, Kenendy memorably said that the "torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans". There are countless other examples, and I don't think they were referring to Columbians or Argentinians. 🙂 We say "America" or "Americans" for the same reason we call facial tissues "Kleenex" - it is historical and traditional, nothing more. I agree with Yaah - it is simply part of the public discourse.

The more important question is why is it called America when the man's name was Amerigo. I for one think it would be more interesting to call it the United States of Amerigo.

God Bless Vespucciland! (reference, anyone?)

It's from Firesign Theater, a comedy group popular in the 70s. Some of their stuff is pretty funny.

What are you talking about? It's crazy cool! I tried it and beat my Step 1 score into the stratosphere 😀
What did you get on Step 1? a 4?

the game got progressively easier when i realized that a lot of the google image montages were repeats. highest score was 380 though...just 8 points short of making into the top 10. now the game is freezing up on me repeatedly, so i'm gonna take a break.

if you see HotSteamingTurd in the top 10...my mission will have been realized.

suck on that!

congrats on completing your mission! 😎

I am trying to beat you but it keeps freezing up on me too. I actually haven't even been able to make it through a whole game yet. 😡

Great game - thanks for telling us banana! 👍

actually you can thank geddy for that game.

are you using mozilla as your browser? if so, i would suggest playing the game on Internet Explorer. Also download the Flash 7.0 if you have an older version of Flash.

but anyway, i figured the maximum score i can get is 390. no matter how fast i type in the response, it always gives me a time bonus of 19. i can never get a time bonus of 20.

if you play the game enough, you'll beat 388 easy. there are about 70-80 different puzzles, i think. i've figured out all the ones i've seen so far except for 2. oh well...**** it, i'm done!

Sorry geddy - thanks! 👍

I am using safari. Will try IE. Let's see beary over HST! :meanie:

Very nice - I am really impressed. 😀 The repetition did make it easier, but I alwyas seemed to make one typing mistake, which threw my score off. You have to be pretty quick with the keyboard.

Yeah, that gets me quite frequently. Oh well, my typing skillz improved dramatically only after training 24/7 for two years for the warcraft world cyber games. You really gotta type uber fast when you're telling your opponent how much he sucks in 1000 words or more during the last 2 minutes of the game.
