What I understood looking from this international forums is the competition for foriegn trained FOR 400 probable advanced standing seats is too high.

I think the foriegn trained should be given a fair chance considering their dental studies and the experience they have attained.


The seats for FORIEGN TRAINED SHOULD BE INCREASED OR THE COMPETETION FOR NDB CAN BE MADE THE FACTOR FOR REGULAR OR FORIEGN TRAINED TO GET INTO THE 3 YRD OF SCHOOL .
NOW THE FORIEGN TRAINED DENTIST IS HAVING A STIFF FIGHT AMONG THEMSELVES TO COMPETE FOR THESE 400 SEATS WHEN 1600 SEATS are available in the country(IF WE ARE IN LOOK OUT FOR GOOD DENTAL PROFESSIONALS LET THE COMPETETION RISE TOO) .
AFTER 2 YRS OF SCHOOL STUDIES IN BASICS THE REGULAR STUDENTS CAN DEFINITELY COMPETE AS MOST OF THE FORIEGN TRAINED MIGHT HAVE FINISHED THERE STUDIES ATLEAST 5 TO 10 YRS BACK
SO WHY DONT THEY MAKE NDB EXAM a equal competetive exam for regular students as well as for foriegn trained dentist?

WHEN I tried applying to one reputed school they asked for 90 hr of credit in organic chemistry , biology ,zoology ....for ..? that is 3 yrs of program IN these stipulated subject to APPLYto THAT dental school TO BE IN THE FIRST YEAR.

I WOULD SAY THIS is ridiculous studying biology , which says there is 32 tooth in oral cavity , after EXTENSIVE experience in dentistry AND finishing NDB PART1 AND PART2 exam .

If a foriegn trained dentist have to compete for regular seats otherwise should take DAT which consist of mathematics ?,biology? ,organic chemistry ...so and so to get into first yr of dentistry , "DENTISTRY WHAT WE STUDIED WAS NOT DENTISTRY ??????AND WHY should WE take toefl , the medium of language in my country for dentistry was english through out (IN ANY STATE) .

If the competition bothers you so much why not
1. Stay in your country and practice there rather than coming here
2. Be in the same boat as all the other applicants. Come here for undergrad and then apply to dental school.

What the advanced placement dentists dont understand is that its extremely unfair to us regular virgin dentists, to have classes with you. You already have the experience, and taken all the classes.

I dont agee with you..............I see that in the perspective of the American students or say for example if some foreign students came to my college in India and I have to compete against them in 3rd year..........nooo way!!!
In India you wont even let a foreign citizen fellow to get admitted in a government college.........we discriminate...we would never let any NON CITIZEN be admitted without paying 5 times fees in 3rd class private dental college under NRI seats.............infact in US its pretty level playing field...............so dont cry UNFAIR UNFAIR...and rather admire that they atleast let you practice. Tell me if some one fro having a US degree wants to practice dentistry in India................he would have to run pillar to post ..........greeeze god knows how many palms and still there is no proper procedure of licencing of foreign dentists in India.......we though being citizens of India cant get our simple 'Certificate of good standing' from our dental council without struggling the hell out of the babooooooooooz!!!!

whatever u have written shows how narrow u think. buddy grow up think out of the box. u are saying that u graduated in 1988 and still u have not been able to get admission after scoring 90's in part 1 and part 2. nobody will belive that u did not get admission in any dental college. you are saying that ur discrimnated here as foriegn student, when u cannot take the entrance in another state in india execpt ur own home state, how do u expect another country to accept u , forget about allowing to practice , u are a dentist and not doc who treats animals. to be frank i know the state of the private dental colleges in india, becos i am from india. some have set up dental colleges in houses and have faculty who will be seen on the day of examinations. some students have done 5-10 extractions, done a CD with his friend and have become dentists . how can u expect US to give u the licence to practice here in US just becos u have 90 in part 1 and 2.i am not saying that all the dental students from INDIA are like that. some do have dental experince more than the dental students in USA. but remmembere beggers cannot be choosers, US didnt ask us to come here , we came here on our own free will and have to accept the rules and regulations. instead of whining about the system here , study and apply to the colleges and get admission. then may be once ur in college u will know the importance of doing dental here in this country.

I wonder what made you start this ridiculous, unfair, undemocratic, foolhardy and racist thread? Are you out of your mind? Even if you are a naturalized citizen or permanent resident it doesn't give you any more right to critisize this system. In my opinion the only people who to an extent could demand for a fairer system or justice are US born citizens who for whatever reason went outside US to obtain a dental or any other professional qualification. The country has some kind of responsibility to integrate them into its system. For rest of us, the immigrants or aspiring immigrants, we all have come here to share the same bread that is on the table for everyone, both the natives and the foreigners. How much more democratic and fair you want this system to be? Would you let a stranger to come and practice in your village in India. Ask someone as me who after living in a foreign country for nearly 8 years voluntarily returned to serve motherland. And all I encountered is a hostile, bigoted and racist system. My only mistake was to join an institute in some other part of the country than my native state. Do you have any idea how a foreign student is treated in a local police station in India when he goes there to endorse his stay with valid documents? Let's not go there. Consider yourself very fortunate to be part of a system that allows, the genuine aspirants with dreams as well as the carpetbaggers, to have a share of the wealth for which they can never ever claim any contribution in retrospect.

Its partly true.....but its their country......they have to give preference to their citizens...that's what a State is for.......its just that they expect different set of standards for their health professionals...and every country has its own needs.......American Degree is not valid in India......so it goes both ways......once we are in the system..they teach us the best........and if you call this as a tough competition.....I dunno what would you say about the Indian PG seats....they have just 40-60 All India PG seats....

We can not blame the system for few seats.......only solution would be to make a seat available to everyone who applies...and this makes no sense....

There has to be a competition to sift.....good -better-best.....so I guess the system is fine........
I feel we all need to put in our best and try to get into a school rather crib over something.................

This is ridiculous... Who are we to ask them to increase the seats?The american system has no obligation to accomodate all of us.. It is us who need to find a way to adapt & fit into this country. After all we weren't begged by America to come to this country..we chose to do so.
What is the gripe about going & working in an underserved area.... I see nothing wrong with that.. If u want to convert to a immigrant visa it is something that this country is asking u to do.... Doctors too are required to go thro the same...There is no reason to complain about it...

The system may have flaws but all of us knew what it was when we boarded the plane for the States so no point complaining.All the cribbing is nothing but personal frustration being vented. Before we lay the blame outside, it would be wise to see what we ourselves are doing wrong & see how things really are in our country... Like meetlife said, the responsibility of each country is to protect the interests of their citizens. That is what this system does & they can hardly be blamed for it.

IF the country gets benefited by the BEST DENTAL PROFESSIONALS IN THE WORLD ,THEN WHY NOT ! THAT IS HOW THE COUNTRY GROW AND THAT IS NOT NARROWMINDEDNESS .

why does people go to good REPUTED HOSPITALS WHY NOT SMALL ONES ?

Here is the deal guys.First,other than Canadian ,no other countries have the rule of 90+ undergrad prerequisites to get in to a dental school.Do not even tell me that ,the standard of education is better elswhere and you dont need to go to college to get into dental and medical school.When an American does these courses, they are 300 level course ,which if you dont know, are eligible for transfer credit to grad courses.Try biochem 300 level course and you can feel fire coming out our rear side,or organic chemistry.So ,by giving foriegners 400 openings in this country(I never verified that number,and is a repeat from the gentleman who started this),this country is actually doing you a favor,by stepping on the foot of their own citizens.Also,there are students who come and do undergrad and try to get in to dental/medical schools.Even ,they are being sidelined.About the TOEFL,as long as your country's official language is not English ,you gotta take it.I dont even understand the concept of "medium of instruction".About TSE,I dare even a canadian or any other American to challenge verbal English ,if you had to take a one on one test with somebody from Anahuac ,Texas.Almost all will be in trouble,period.And why cry about English,there are less than 10 countries in this world who are exempted from that.If in the scinece of medicine ,you dont even get that break.You gotta get it and even update it sometimes to get your full license.So,dont bicker about small things.Medical fraternity is trying to put together a legislation to eliminate licensure of foriegn graduates if they dont have under grad courses equivalent to US standards.Of course ,how far that goes ,we have to wait and see.This is because lot of foriegn trained doctors are getting into legal troubles for malpractise.I am sure lot of the patrons here are from east coast and if you are in the habit of reading newspapers,you might have read about the doctor(India)who got in trouble in US(2 states)and Australia last week.Is this an isolated incident,maybe?But certainly it was on the front page of NY times.That is lot of coverage.God forbade ,if some legislator decides to put together some thing for dentistry,lot of people are going to be screwed.That is added misery to already existing state boards and regional exams and all that bull crap.Bottom line ,consider yourself lucky by just getting a chance to be a part of this system.Well,I know what most of you are thinking by now?"this is not the best in the world".Here is the answer for that,,"you are not the best in the world either".So learn to be humble ,grateful and most of all ,Do not **** in the plate you eat.Immigrants who came here hundreds of years back worked hard to put this country as the only superpower in the world.You would not even be having this discussion on line if you were in China .

This is the fourth country including my motherland where I lived and learnt to accept the social and political system. Of course the tone of your posting is political. The whole issue of allowing foreigners to become part of a country’s system is political as well as economical. But I don’t think we have come to the US to start a political revolution. Sorry no place for Comrades and Red brigade in a democracy.

Hey guys
I browsed SDN may be after a year or so and am so surprised reading this thread.
I am also an advanced plasment student currently in the school and I had passed through the situation what you all are in rightnow.
But hey being a dentist already we all should understand there is nothing fair in life and its not a dream world we are living in that we get everything we think of.
I am in school rightnow and so I know whats unfair and to whom.
Its unfair for the regular (virgin) dental students to compete with dentists. Just think when you were in the school and you have to take all your theory and practical exams with real dentist, frightenig, isn't it ?
We are telling its not unfair to us that we have to compete with so many already dentists for the admission in the school. Is it fair for those regular dental students to compete with past practicing dentists each day?
And there is one more question, we all knew and we all had done research before coming to US about the system here and how you have to take boards and TOEFL and all for schooling in here. So please stop complaining about it. We all have to waste our years (I have also wasted mine) in order to start our career in US again.

But we are in foreign country and its our decision to come here so let's face it.
Let's stand up with our decision and think positive about it.
Eventhough we think that its not fair to us, I guess none of us are in position to change anything. So let's guide our energy positively, work hard and what we have done once, hopefully we all will get it again
