I know this has been asked before, but wanted to recheck just to be sure: Is it OK to get the LOR attachment form for the 2005 cycle, modify it (using adobe program or something) to change the "2005" to "2006"; and giving it to the people who will be writing the LORs, RIGHT NOW, instead of waiting until mid-May when the actual 2006 form will become available.
And I will let them know not to mail it right now, but wait until after mid-May to mail the letters. Can send a thank you card May-ish as a reminder.
If you are wondering why can't I simply wait till May, because I am anal and just like to get things done and out of the way rather than wait.

hmm, if i were you, i'd just wait til May to get the real form. if the profs are going to be mailing the LORs in mid May anyway, i don't see what the big deal would be.

plus what if something crazy happened, like AADSAS decides to change the format of the form for some reason...

You know, that they did change the form from the 2004 cycle to the 2005 cycle. It wasn't a big change just format and little things like that. I'm not sure that I would take the chance, what if something as stupid as that held your app up. It would have the opposite effect from what you wanted. Just wait.

Go ahead and talk to the profs now, and let them now what you would like but just wait!

I had the same problem/question last year at this time. I just printed out the 2005 one, crossed out 2005 and wrote in 2006 and used it. everything went smoothly with my letters. I would definiltly not wait until may to ask professors because i have heard lots of stories of profs taking a month or more to do the letters. also i don't know about your undergrad but my finals were over and we all went home after the first week of may, thus it would be inconvenient for both student and professor to wait until then to ask them for letters.

Go right ahead and make the LOR adjustment. This form is merely a way for AADSAS to idenify the LORs with your application, so neatness doesn't matter here.

Even if there might be a small change in format for this year... this will be okay, I am sure AADSAS will be smart enough to see the '2006' on the matching form. Also, I've done it before and I had no problem.

Adjusting the LOR matching form is fine - it doesn't change much. Keep in mind, though, that AADSAS will start accepting LOR's around May 1st, so remind your professors not to send it in ahead of time so as to avoid a potential AADSAS headache.

thx for the clarification. Have a related but potentially dumb question, "Does anyone know how to edit a .pdf file?"

The free Adobe program you can't really edit anything with it. So you have to purchase one from them to have that capability. Or you could print screen it and play and edit with it that way, other than that i'm not too much of a pro. Hope that helps.

The computer labs at your school might have better versions of all of the adobe software -- it would be easy (I'd think) and free to do it at school!

Acrobat Reader, which is free to download, will not be able to edit the .pdf files. You must get the Acrobat Professional in order to do it (most likely the school should have a copy on the computer). Also, after when you have made the change, when you go to print, make sure you check the one that says 'print with comment', or else the adjustment will not show.

uh..im not sure what u mean but can u explain it again?? 😕

Do you think schools would care if you had extra copies of the LOR's with 2005 on it (preparing for the worst) then sent it for the 2006 cycle?

You can only edit .pdf files using Adobe Acrobat Professional. If you have the Adobe Acrobat Reader, you will not be able to make any modifications to .pdf files as it is only a 'reader'. If you have the professional edition, all you have to do is edit the '2005' to '2006' using a text box and print. However, in order for the modification to appear when you print it, you will have to select print with 'document with comment' in the print menu in Acrobat 6 or lower or 'document with markups' for Acrobat 7. If you just print normally without selecting these options, you will just be printing the original document.

Hope this will clarify things for you...

Unless you make the adjustments to the year, the AADSAS will probably think that you are mailing it for the 2005 cycle and will probably misplace it somewhere if they cannot find your file.

There is a cheaper option. Go to http://www.pdfill.com/ . It lets to edit and fill out pdf forms. I used it to fill out all of my seconaries with ease. 😀
