This is a result of a true account that happened to me tonight. Read this and take it to heart.

Jeremy.
WCU-COM class of 2014
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My prayers go out to the man who was shot tonight behind the exxon near my house. You taught me lessons that I don't think medical school will ever teach me. I think you were more of a calming presence to me than I was to you. To Eric, thank you for being incredible at your job and letting this feeble medical student go home. You are a true hero. To any future physician in training, DO NOT let yourself for one instance think you are BETTER than any healthcare provider "under" you.

I was presented with an opportunity to help. I failed. As a first year student my best advice was to get a shirt and attempt to stop the bleeding. Thank you Netter's Anatomy and my cadaver for letting me learn what muscles were injured. Thank you life for humbling me.

To humanity...I am ****ing disgusted by you.

I am going to take this icy shot of patrone and hopefully find some rest. By no means will this be the last time I encouter this; by no means am I deterred. I think I may have grown to love my profession even more out of this encounter.

To every medical student that wastes the time to read anything I have to say: We are nothing. Don't EVER forget why we are doing this.

To future physicians: Telling an admission board you want to "help" people is the best goddamn reason you can give for wanting to be in medical school. Mean it. If that doesn't RESONATE in your heart then get the **** out. We don't need you.

I'm now a little more drunk than when I started this. Here's the rest of my patrone shot to all of you still reading this; here's my new promise to all of you: I will wake up tomorrow and study the **** out of physiology and gross anatomy; I will work my ass off to make sure I'm the apparent "expert" I'd like to play because I'm in medical school.

To the man that is in the ER tonight with left cutaneous gunshot wound: thank you.

Jeremy.

You're not a very good storyteller, bro.

This is why you shouldn't drink alcohol and should be smokin weed instead, so you can at least make partial sense out of what you're saying.

Bonus points for being drunk off one shot of Patron.

Hmm..either the overall value of life in S. Mississippi has dropped significantly, or I'm confused as I can't find reference to any shooting in the Brandon/Hattiesburg area last night except a murder/suicide yesterday afternoon.....😕

Wow the maturity of those on this forum is really shocking to me. Regardless of your opinions of the OP's storytelling/drinking abilities he went through a traumatic event last night. He did his best as an M1...which was to get the appropriate help there.

So nice job OP. Strong work.

My my my, aren't you the self-righteous one. OP was cross posting while drunk, and he did a very poor job of getting any meaningful lesson/point across.

he went through a traumatic event last night.

My post was not a matter of maturity; merely a reality check.

Brandon, MS (where OP lives per profile), is a town of ~20K. They have had 2 murders in the last decade, and average 1-3 assaults (not necessarily even shootings) a year. A man being shot last night would be significant news; and there is NO indication it occurred.

If it did, then my apologies to the OP; but if it did not then it is just fiction and doesn't belong here.

Agreed. Best I can tell, some dude was non-lethally shot, the OP wasn't much help so somebody named Eric sent him home. So OP got drunk. OP is now inspired to work harder so he won't be such a useless drunk. Thinks this event should somehow inspire the rest of us as well.🙂

Who cares? Doesnt change the fact that he went through some BS last night. He obviously wasnt thinking clearly. He doesnt need some little pipsqueek kid making fun of him because he was "drunk off one shot" or "a bad storyteller."

You werent who I was referring to man. We shall see. The whole post is sort of odd...but I will give the guy the benefit of the doubt for now.

Yeah, our posts were so much worse than your denunciation of the other posters. Well played, sir.

Glad to see you find evidence to judge your entire species from an event involving a few humans in a small town.

You're right, let me try and be helpful instead. My advice, don't drink every time you see something traumatic. You'll get cirrhosis.

So someone experiences a challenging situation and you feel that it is appropriate to belittle him? Interesting, sir.

You're way too serious. Save your self-righteous lectures for your close friends that care.

That is good advice! Look, did I condone the fact that OP felt the need to drink after his experience? No. Did I claim the OP was the best storyteller? No. But if a person goes through a tough situation and then posts about it online, you dont jump all over them...you just dont. I thought that was common knowledge in our society.

welcome to the internet, bro. Pull up a chair.

Folks didn't jump all over him for going through a tough situation and sharing. They jumped all over him when he chose to preach to "all med students and future doctors" (and cross-posted in multiple threads, which is not allowed), as if it was something which should have the same degree of impact to the rest of us. If you are going to do that, it had better be well done. It wasn't. Nuff said.

If this is a true story, I'm glad that someone was there for the person in need.

Hey, I went to that ICM lecture, too!

See you in your free clinic.

Extra bonus points for being so drunk off one shot you can't spell Patron right. Btw I wish I had enough money to buy Patron in med school...hey but maybe this life changing experience will teach the OP to donate some of that $60+ a bottle and buy some cheaper booze.

Maybe if you're high as a kite the OP will seem much more deep?

Anyone want to give this a shot?
Nope. That wasn't the case last night. 😉

Also, what's people's obsession with Patron. People always seem to look highly upon the person who walks into a party with a bottle of Patron, which isn't the case for the guy that walks in with $10 fifth of Vitali vodka. Why buy expensive alcohol when you can get the same effect with dirty cheap alcohol?

Dude got shot, OP is a med student and therefore pretty much useless in that situation, Eric put on his man pants, OP got scared into believing all that touchy-feely horse**** they shovel down your throat during M1 is true, people called him on it. Seem like a fair assessment?

I don't know, if your purpose is to get drunk I don't know why you'd waste your Patron on it. Personally though when it comes to vodka I usually don't go cheaper than Smirnoff's or UV (slightly cheaper). No more nasty plastic handles of McCormick's for me anymore
Patron is decent tequila but the price is wayy overinflated due to marketing/hip-hop exposure. I'd never buy it personally unless I had money to piss away.

I'll add that I think Eric must be a paramedic? For some reason the OP was whining about not thinking you're better than anyone "under" you...I figure that's what he's referring to. Poor Eric was probably trying not to laugh his ***** off as the OP waxed philosophically while Eric was loading the guy who got shot in the ambulance.

wow i actually can't believe the way you guys interact with each other. give the guy a break. he's inspired.. so let him be inspired - good for him! i could use some inspiration sometimes... i think we all could.

i can honestly not believe someone would make up a story like this just for fun. ok so he was drunk - so what? it was a bit much for him to handle.. he'll be okay and if he found inspiration by it then i don't see how that could be a bad thing.

why does everyone have to be judged?

The severity of posting while intoxicated is akin to drinking while driving... or even worse: drunk-texting.
In other words, the OP is lucky he isn't in jail already [as I called the internet police and reported his ass 6 minutes ago for the transgression].

Cause he was drunk and became more drunk half-way into his post. It's really no different than two people smoking meth and having deep meaningful philosophical discussions about life or the many purposes of the rake.

ever = never

Vitali Citron, which is a plastic handle, is actually quite decent. It tastes like lemon. Any regular non-flavored vodka, $10 or $50 bottle, tastes like crap to me. 😀

The pre-DO version of this post is pretty funny. Everybody is patting themselves (and pre-DOs as a whole) on the back for making super srs posts, without considering that DO students/premeds aren't barred from posting in the pre-allo board.

We like our board better. For good reason it seems.

Orly? Is it because everyone gets touchy feely? Is that what OMM teaches?

Before you get super srs, I'm joking.

Dude, snuggling has been proven to be helpful to those who need when there is someone who is struggling with the hope you find in what brings this much to where there's even a possibility of hope. So pet some rabbits before you bash the entire osteopathic profession.

Missed joke was missed.

Either that or unclear joke is unclear.

Couldn't see that one coming.

I understood NONE of that 😕

I knew someone out there must have received a "J" on the writing sample.
