Did they SIGNIFICANTLY improve your PS ? thanks. Mine is pretty mediocre right now 🙁

so am I
the only loser that is going to pay them 125$?

Aw I'm thinking about it too. My English-major gf is starting to lose patience with me.

What's $125 in the grand scheme of medical education? More concerning is the turnaround time. Anyone know what it is?

48 hours turnaround... my friend said his revision was awesome. but his was pretty good to start off with. mine is crap so i don;t know how they would make it so much better

Ah screw it. I'll go ahead and pay. Even if no one else has opinions, at least you'll have mine in 48 hours. Are they the best site to use or is there another one out there?

they are the best one but also the most expensive one.

Haven't there been other threads rating their service? Perhaps you'll find a few opinions there. I figure that it couldn't hurt though. It's the price of what...? Another 4 schools? And it could save you at a lot more schools if you have so-so numbers like me.

Edit: Actually it's like $165 for my word count (928). Sad times.

Oh sorry, btw... :hijacked:

wow. well i hope you end up with an awesome ps. let us know how it goes in 48 hours por favor.

I used essayedge, they were very helpful and I would recommend them. They were familiar with AMCAS and also a bit insightful as to what med schools may be interested in. Try to go for that package that gives u some time to email ur editor then send it back a second time. There are also coupons online, a simple google search and you well definitely find some.

Unfortunately, I found a 20% off coupon advertised by essayedge themselves but they decided to give everyone a $5 sale which apparently can't be removed or combined with other offers. Damn you essayedge!

Edit: I got a Stanford human bio graduate who has aspirations for med school too.:scared:

I like their customer service, very fast at emailing. I chose 48 hour and got the essay back within 24.

So about the editing, I think they do a good job. I also used EssayRX before, slightly cheaper, and slightly less satisfying.

I have to say though, while I agree with the editor's comment, say like, such such sentence is a repetitive thought and can be tighten up with another part, the edited version might not sound like yourself.

So basically, they give excellent critiques, and good editing. I would say you still have to do some work after it, but you'll have a better direction and a cleaner essay to start from.

i am a 2nd time applicant, that is looking for any help on my ps
i was also thinking about essayedge, but my professor has already offered to help

i found another editing service, the editor was a former member of the u. of washington medical school admissions committee and she has written 11 books about getting into top residency programs or getting into med school for non-science majors, its www.accepted.com but its crazy expensive
just thought i'd throw out the 2nd site in case anyone was interested

Certainly don't mean to hijack the thread, but isn't it a bit ethically dubious to have somebody else write your PS for you? I imagine you all did pretty mediocre on the MCAT verbal? Maybe I'm just ticked off by all the undergrads I know who come off as babbling buffoons because their parents/friends/significant other did all their writing for them in high school.

Don't be silly; they're not talking about having a PS written for them....these are EDITING services. Not everyone has access to people they trust to give good feedback, and even AMCAS suggests that you have other people look over (edit) your PS before submitting it. A high verbal score doesn't mean you're a great writer, and this isn't a writing competition. The goal is to have a personal statement that says what you want to say; if someone can help you say that better, there's nothing wrong with it. Even research papers go through an extensive editing process before they are published....so I really don't understand what your problem is. It would appear you are just trying to disparage others, and that is not acceptable. Perhaps you should have someone edit what you say first.....

Wow!!! How did you deduce that the person probably scored pretty poorly on the verbal section of the MCAT? Are you sure you are not the babbling baffoon to which you are referring?

I have to side with Kypdurron5 on this one...👎

i used essayedge and was very happy with their service - i considered my PS to be really well written already, and they made it even better. i dont remember how much i paid for it - i think i picked the cheapest option. i would definetly reccommend them.

Let me know how it all turns out! 👍

I also used essayedge and I got mine back yesterday, within the 48hrs as they had promised. I would recommend them if you can afford it. They fixed my grammatical errors, awkward sentences, word choices, and made the flow of the essay a lot smoother. They give you a detailed description of what they changed and reasons why. I purchased the premium editing service which allows me to make changes within 7 days and submit it for a final edit. I got 20% off my purchase by using a coupon I searched on google.

However, the thing to remember, if you do decide to go for such a service, is that the content and the theme of your PS is solely up to you. A cliche, but you really do need a good foundation for it to be good.

I worked on my essay nightly and through the weekend for about 10 days before sending it for edit. For those of you that need examples, read "Essays that will get you into Medical School". But know that the book does not give you stats of the writers, but just where they got accepted. I read most of the essays and never came across one that tried to address low GPA or weakness in an area. I think there's a book by Kaplan that has stats of the writers, but I'm not sure what it's called.

IvyEssays is another site but a lot cheaper. Founded by one the authors on "Essays...into Medical School".

$25 for just feedback, no changes to essay. 1 business day.
$75 for full edit. 3 business day.
$95 for full edit rush. 1 business day.

I was looking at the EssayEdge website where they list all the schools they've helped people get into. Has anyone else noticed that they tend to double up schools and list them twice? Like for example they list:

University of Chicago - Pritzker School of Medicine

AND

Pritzker School of Medicine - University of Chicago

I just thought it was funny how they're sneaky like that. It's not all schools, just the ones that have these "double names."

Yeah I agree that you really do need to give them a polished essay before they can work their magic. I doubt that they're going to improve my ideas or content for me. But that's alright because I'm comfortable in those areas already. I'm hoping that they'll flush out my main ideas a little bit more though but mostly just make my PS sound less anal retentive and formal.

I just got my paper back from the editor and I like the service. I feel like it was worth the price since she focused in on what I wanted fixed (conclusion, central theme) and fixed everything else too. She even gave her reasons for her changes in her e-mail.

I like my original wording for some of the PS but for the most part, I think she really improved my writing.

got mine back too and i think it was pretty good. however, im not sharing it w/ anyone here

Oh good! You decided to use them too, huh?

I don't feel ripped off any more and I feel like that godforsaken PS is finally good enough to stop worrying about.

I dont know... i dont think it was worth 120$. I say it would have been better for $75. My editorsaid she would do one more revision if I really need it, but i dont think i want to change anything drastically at this point so... overall, people said i sound much more sincere now; and the essay has a better flow

okay. definitely considering it now. maan. what a thing to consider =x

can you link me to the coupon? 20% would be a great help =P

I PMed you the 15% coupon code. hmm. 20% would be even better 😛

You were able to use the coupon? They didn't force you to do a $5 off dealio instead? Gah.

yeah i got 15% off. someone i know got 25%, but oh well; only 15$ less

i used cydney at accepted.com. she was amazing. i was really skeptical because i had used other specifically med advisors in the past, but cydney was by far the best--both in terms of writing and coaching me through the application cycle. they say they're strictly an editing service but in fact cydney turned out to be a really huge support. she;d never sugarcoat my chances; instead she'd tell me the next step that needed to be done, and we'd get it done--from editing the statement to writing LOI's and waitlist letters. i would totally recommend them, in fact i'm making sure my little sister goes to them when she applies this year. i really liked the fact that she helped me brainstorm what was missing content-wise from my essay, and then made sure it subtly addressed specific deficiencies in my application. in order words, her services were tailored to MY experiences and not some generic prototype applicant.

Wow. They're crazy expensive. For that price, I'd sure hope they customized their advice and treated you like a star. How much was your package?

why not just send your PS to a bunch fo SDN members for review. Alot of us have been there before and knows what a good PS is.

I used EssayEdge as a final edit, after writing multiple drafts, having my essay reviewed by family members, and going to the Writing Center at my school twice. I was happy with EssayEdge's services, because my reviewer helped make the tone of my essay sound more confident. I didn't use a couple of his suggestions because they sounded like run-on sentences. But overall it was very helpful to have another perspective (after reading your own essay a hundred times, it kind of gets ingrained in your head) 🙂

SDNers usually don't do as thorough a job as EssayEdge. They simply don't have the time, I think. They did earlier in the season but now readers are swamped with AMCAS submissions.

I have a few people whose advice I loved and that really improved my essay in terms of content and ideas. I didn't want to waste their time on grammar and flow and prose in general though.

But you're right. SDNers have been great to me too. Especially for free!

well, the most important question is how much was the service ?
If it is less than $250, or around that ball park, I too would definitely do it 😀

I had a couple pple look at it. They gave me some nice feedbacks but did not do much editing or revision

Can anyone PM me the coupon please??
Thank you!

Talk to an english prof you had, talk to english majors you know, go to your school's writing center, see your pre-med adviser, send it to parents, family, friends to get tons of input. All of these are free resources and from people who KNOW YOU and can help you convey what makes you unique.

I just got my essay back, and I must say that I'm very happy that I used essay edge. I think it was worth the $140 that I spent because they made my essay more clear and direct, and gave me a lot of suggestions/advice to make my essay stronger.
