I know for my school more than 3 excused or unexcused absences in any given class results in a W/F.. how are you guys working these interviews into your schedule? It seems extraordinarily challenging at least for me and yes I have been speaking to my professors about the situation. It also seems like a lot of coursework/tests being missed.

so far, I've only signed up for 13 credits. I'm not sure if I want to add one more class or not. I talked to some of my professors and they said that it won't be a problem because interviews are really important.

13 credits. MWF sciences with professors who really couldn't care less and won't accommodate. So it's going to be a good time.

are you all graduating this semester? I just need one more class to graduate so I am not sure if I should drop the other 2 and focus in on my interviews....

15 credits. I've found that most professors are willing to work with you on things like interviews, especially if you talk to them ahead of time. Otherwise, they're being sort of educational hypocrites.

16 credits, three science classes and 2 generals. Make sure you talk to them one on one to explain the situation. They should help you out.

last year i was taking 15 credits during the fall semester and was able to attend 7 pre-december interviews. figure out when you have tests, schedule interviews accordingly, and let professors know way ahead of time. my professors were all super cool about it. If you're some sort of pre-health major, you probably wont be the only one missing class for med/dent/pharm interviews.

I just wish these interviews were scheduled for Saturdays. It would have been so much easier since some professors are really hard to work with especially if you have a test that day.

some schools actually do offer interviews on saturdays.

im concerned about this since im taking 16 credits, but i hope profs can work with me, if not ill go to the dept head. theres no way im missing interviews for pre-reqs classes haha will not happen!

do u guys attend all your interviews? I have 7 so far and I am missing this one lab so many times and exams here and there. The lab is 2 days a week in the evening and I feel like I am getting behind. How are you guys handling all these interviews? Thanks.

16 credits, 3 science classes and one elective...

Like many have mentioned, talking to the professor would be your best bet.

I know I'm missing an exam next week, and two labs for an interview. It happens. But the way I see it, interviews are way more important than, say, acing an exam. And if have been keeping up with your material, even if the professor was being a unreasonable and you don't study, you should be able to pull of say a C. A great interview and a C on an exam? I'd take that anyday than an A- and no interview

18 Hours and research.

Spoke to my biology professors and they are all on board with accommodating missed course work.

Also, was advised that if I ran into a situation with a professor, to go speak to the Dean of Students.

Interviews and acceptances are important for universities as it shows they are competitive and students have a future by going there.

I did the wise thing and took a planned leave of absence for fall quarter. I only have 2 quarters left so it made sense. It shouldn't even look that bad because there are a chunk of applicants that aren't even in school.

But that is only because they are non-traditional students. They either had a job, went into a different field, or did a PostBacc/Masters.

From what you've said, you're just a traditional student that decided to take the easy way out. I'm no ADCOMS, but they may be a red flag for me.

It's like you intentionally made yourself into a non-trad by taking a semester off.

That's just my opinion though, and totally unprofessional. Interesting idea though, and I would like to hear other people's opinion on this.

I disagree with you on that one. If he is using his time wisely (working/volunteering/shadowing) then their should be no problem. It's actually a really smart idea especially if she/he applied early and got the majority of his interviews pre-december. They would never know before he gets an acceptance on december 1st since he wouldn't do an academic update. I see that as a fairly strategic way of allowing yourself to attend interviews without sacrificing grades. I originally planned to do this but I have a class that needs to be taken that is only offered in the fall.

He didn't say that he was doing any of the above (working/volunteering/shadowing)
It seems like he is just taking the semester off to do his apps and for interviews.

Also, while I agree with you that if he does get PreDec1 interviews and Dec1 acceptance they'll never know, but what if he doesn't get in this cycle? What if he doesn't get Dec1 acceptance and has to update his grades. It's strategic if it you are guaranteed acceptance, but since nothing is for sure it doesn't give yourself enough wiggle room. If he didn't do anything but his apps this semester, didn't get accepted and has to apply next cycle, then that empty semester would indeed be a red flag. Then you'll have to explain to the ADCOMS why you weren't taking courses, weren't shadowing/volunteering.

I've signed up for 18 credits, and am writing a thesis and doing research. I don't think interviews are a big enough deal as to change your course load, because it just means that you miss one day of the week once in a while. Don't you skip classes once a week anyway? (then again, if your school imposes consequences on missing class then it's different for you)

I have a 3.95 GPA and a AA23/ts25 im going to get accepted. I probably should have mentioned I am working full time, work in a lab, and volunteer with Native American clubs on campus. Im not sitting on my bum by any means(still logging 10 hours a day of busy). Im not shadowing anymore since I already have ~130 hours of it. A number of my friends are currently or are planning on applying to med school to matriculate the year after graduating hence they will not be enrolled upon applying to schools. Same thing different circumstances really. The ONLY reason im still in school is pre-dent classes. My degree is finished.

Also should mention I already have 3 pre-dec interviews so the plan seems to be working out so far.

12 units and working ...
It's hard. I am giving top priority to the interviews.
I drop work, drop school and just go to my interviews when they clash. 😛

12 credits, but i plan to speak with my professors in case i need to take off time for interviews.

18 units + sports + research + 11 scheduled interviews (cancelled 1).

Let your professors know ahead of time, but don't give them the impression that you are missing every week or else they will question why you even took the class. Just tell them you'll be missing a a couple days the next few weeks or so. Then see if you can attend another section!

that is quite intriguing.. very interesting how this is not at all affecting/conflicting badly with your classes.. by the way which one did u cancel?

Look at my pre-dents. It is. I'm 1-2 days each week until the end of Oct. I also have practices at 545am, so after I get back from the east coast at 12am it sucks lol. I just stay productive, communicate with my professors, and stay organized. I've been at my school for now 4 years and it's easy to get to know the professors and vice versa so they are more understanding. I can't imagine going to a big school and still get that level of understanding. Some of my homework is online. 1 of my 3 labs does not have another section so I often go and finish it up myself. That lab is physical biochemistry so I can usually do the molecular modeling on my flight or at my hotel. My other 2 labs, physics and molecular gene/cell bio have other sections so I make it up later in the week. My water polo is 6 days a week (only day off is a Monday) so it's almost impossible for me to not miss. I just workout at the hotel or make up the practices. I still find my time to go out too, but after I wake up the next morning, power mode all over.

Work hard, play hard.

haha no I hear ya man. I have just about as many interviews as you, but my school is public and fairly large. However, I know my department very well and they are very accommodating for me, but a couple of classes are in different departments and they are not very "understanding" so I am having some difficulties with that.

On a side not, these flights are getting very expensive lol, but I think its worth it..

Haha I know. Certain institutions allow the students to talk to administration (Dean of Students or similar position) regarding medical leaves for 3 weeks or more. A friend of mine has the same interviews as I do (for med) and he printed out every interview invite to show them. What they do is write a letter to each of your professors letting them know your situation. It's more formal and the professor would probably be more flexible because of that letter.

good to know man, I will definitely look into that..

I know at my school the professors are pretty lenient on absences as long as prior notice is given (with the reason). For example, a friend of mine had to miss physics lab and our Ochem test to take her PCAT. The Ochem prof told her that she could make up her test the following day. If they aren't understanding about missing a class period for a Dschool interview, I would talk to the department chair, provost, or university president.

Im taking 14 credits;

Cell bio, bio chem, Physics 2 and an Online Geography class 😀

Im only in school Mon, Tues, Weds. heh

Thursday and Friday my chill days
