🙂Hi Im new to the forum, HI Jrad read ur post
on why u dont like pediatrics agree totally on some points...sometimes the mother needs a midaz shot too....
all pediatricians out there please post ur thoughts on some subspecialities...

adolescent medicine..does it have good career prospects..it it just few people rambling on about teenage pregnancies or more..is a fellowship in the field worth it?
The hospitalist programs..read on some posts that one can get good lifestyle, options of working 3 days a week or 2 weeks on call then off..is that true

As for adolescent, I think it's a great field, although not my cup-of-tea. The biggest problem with it is that the fellowship is 3 years long and it doesn't really increase your earning power much -- it may even decrease it.

It's a very needed specialty. A significant minority of pediatricians stop seeing patients after 12. They just don't want to deal with all the adolescent baggage. Frankly, you could probably do adolescent without the fellowship in most practices. Your partners would love to pass the patients on to you. Your big problem with be with reimbursement. To take care of adolescents the right way, you need to spend time with them. Unfortunately, the way you make money in medicine these days is "moving meat". I find it disgusting. One of the (few) advantages in military medicine is that we are able give extra time to these kids. We had 45 minute adolescent visits. You do that in the civilian world, you'll be eating Ramen Noodles for every meal.
