if anybody has any thoughts on the program, that would be helpful. like how the atmosphere is, workload, etc.
Don't have any first-hand information. Does anybody know if they still requiring interns/residents there to wear short white coats?

I did an away month at Emory earlier this month. I'll volunteer a little information. First, from what I saw not many people even wear the white coats, but for those that do they are long coats. It seemed that surgery is the only service wearing the short coats. All in all I enjoyed my month at Emory. The faculty is overall very good at teaching as well as having friendly personalities. As always though some are better than others. Dr. Shayne, who is the program director is a heckuva nice guy. I got to work a shift with him at Grady and he provides excellent feedback and suggestions. The residents all seem to get along very well. They rotate at 5 different institutions (3 adult and 2 peds). This was initially a concern for me, but the residents all seem to feel that the benefits of seeing and managing these different ED's far outweigh the negatives of different staffs, computer systems, paperwork, facilities, etc. That being said, the primary site is Grady. Grady is ALWAYS busy. In the six shifts that I worked there, the ED was placed on diversion 4 times. As you may or may not know the ED at Grady is split into a Red and Blue Zone. Red takes primarily surgical and trauma patients. Blue gets medical patients. Blue is complete with an asthma room and a detention room for those prisoners who just can't work and play well with others. Needless to say there is a fair amount of overlap between the zones. I would write more but I've got to get going. Sorry this is so disorganized, but it is what it is. Feel free to post more specific questions if you have any and I'll try to answer them if I get time. Anyhow, good luck with interviews and happy thanksgiving.

Thanks. Do EM physician run those blue and red area?

Yep. There is usually double coverage by EM attendings in both zones. The number of residents kind of varies.
