Tie option for interview

I think nothing. Your interviewer will think nothing. I cannot remember a single knot another interviewee had at any of my interviews.

This is a medical school interview, not a fashion contest. Look professional and you'll be fine. I'm of the opinion that what you wear can't help you, but it can definitely hurt you.
 
Whatever you're best at, just make sure it doesn't look sloppy. Look presentable (professional), don't think too much about it.
 
There is nothing wrong with the basic four in hand Knot. If that's what you know, go with it. Most of the male applicants will have done this. Those of us who have lived in the tie wearing world will notice if you manage one of the more complicated knots, and that may lead to a subconscious bonus point, but if you don't know how to do it go with what you know.

The most important things are don't go with a tie that's way too wide, way too thin, tied way too short, or made of an unconventional material such as hemp or leather. No clip ons - we can tell. Nothing with words, animals, cartoon characters, sports logos or holiday themes. And unless you are from the southwest and interviewing in the southwest a bolo is not an acceptable alternative.

Are you being a little tongue in cheek?

I mean, are you serious that a bolo can be an acceptable alternative for a professional job interview? Even in the southwest? I can't claim to be hip to southwest culture. It just looks like the only time you would wear it for an interview would be if you were interviewing to cowboy sheep on the side of old Brokeback Mountain.

I love dogs and am planning on wearing my tie with patterned greyhounds on it. Is that actually unacceptable? I can't imagine anyone would care.

If you google it you'll see that there's actually quite a lot of internet debate as to whether this is acceptable business attire in the West/Southwest, with many business people embracing the idea. I'm weighing in and saying it's not a good idea for med school interviews unless you are in a pocket of the country where this passes as dressy.

I saw all of these last year alone (including a wooden bow tie) and worse.
 
Any manner that leaves you still able to breathe will be OK.

Because I read this right after some flirty posts, I had a totally different type of collar pictured

Anyway, this would not be the sort of "professional" collar that L2D is talking about.

After the whole 50 Shades thing blew up, the sale of grey silk ties went through the roof.

I suggest guys, if your first name is Christian, or your last name Grey, consider a different color tie.

As long as this was completely under your shirt and tie, you could probably get away with it.

I have an encyclopedic registry.
The top few visuals include a silver ice skating catsuit and mariachi regalia.
Lighting up a cigarette isn't verbal but it does deserve a special place in the registry.

Bow ties are allowed but know you are going to both stand out and may project a Poindexter/Urkel image, which isn't always what you are going for when trying to show you are a "good fit". But it's not unprofessional and lots of doctors who don't like their ties dragging in MRSA wear them.
 
I would check out Tie bar online. They have great selections for such great prices. Personally, I love a dark navy suit, white shirt with deep 3" burgundy tie with brown belt and brown pair of Ferragamo cap toe oxford.

The woman wore a silver white catsuit (with a broad sheer "V" from shoulders to umbilicus) on her interview day.
The mariachi had everything but the acordeón.
 
I swear, you could get a paper into a medical education journal (or one of pathological psychology) with case reports like these!

I'm just floored here.......so at any point does someone sit them down and give them the "what the hell" talk? or do you just wash your hands of them and laugh over drinks later?

The woman went on to attend another fine medical school (far from here). I have to imagine that it was too cold to wear the catsuit (or maybe she put on a jacket?).
I have no idea where the other fellow went.

As far as I know, no one mentioned the aberrant dress to either of them.
