"Ties to a school"

Hi,

Sorry if this is not a good question...but do ties to a state expand beyond parents living there and where is this mentioned when applying? If I have a long-term partner in that state and will graduate at 29 if all goes well in the app cycle, would that be reasonable or does it only apply to direct family mainly? I travel to that state a lot but it is on the W coast and those schools have in-state/regional preferences so not sure if it is worth mentioning.

I should add that I have a strong interest in remaining in that state to practice (since many schools want to know this) and spent a good amount of time there during COVID with everything being online and flexible but did not "officially" live there with legal documentation.
