Hello all,

I recently had my first interview in mid-September and Ive got a few more coming up all during the first week of October. I know that October 15th is the first day possible to hear back. However, I was just wondering about how much time it takes to hear back from a school on average after having your interview?

I am going off of my older brother currently starting residency. So, it has obviously been years since he applied but at the time he heard of his acceptances all about 2-3 months after the interview. So I wanted to know if that was accurate or not.

Thanks :luck:

It depends on the school. Some are on top of their stuff and make a point to get back to you in a few weeks. Most take a few months. Some make you wait a long time.

It varies for many reasons. Some do rolling acceptances, some expressly don't, and others are somewhere in-between.

Some schools try to jump on the cycle early and get out as many acceptances as soon as they can. Other schools (notably UCs) seem to plod along more slowly with less concern about the passage of time.

If you're not told what the timing is during your interview visit, you should ask before you leave.

There's at least one school that calls you within a few days of the interview. And at the other extreme, you may not get an acceptance until the day before med school starts if you're on a waitlist. Nonrolling acceptances are all held and released at one time in the spring. Two to three months is probably a good average. Schools Specific threads from last year will tell you how each school does it.
