Does it seem that there's never any time to enjoy college that much?

It's basically work work work. Volunteer etc.

Also, if there's not much time to have fun etc. then how can one pursue other non academic pursuits.

It seems that medical schools really want people who don't fit into the mold of the nerdy pre-med. But how are we supposed to do that when all our time is filled with school, ECs and what little free time we have to spend with friends.

have you tried careful planning?

schedule events a few weekends ahead. make an effort to commit to them and finish up your work before hand. This helps you to stay on track and have some fun.

I've honestly never had that issue

I think you're trying too hard. How about taking five years to finish instead of four?

Honestly, if you can't find time for fun in college, there is zero chance you will find fun during med school.

+1 for truth

If you are dead serious about this post, I feel very sorry for you. I may have had TOO much fun in college. College is not a checklist you mark things off of for your medical school app resume. You will be miserable if you carry this through to med school, which I still am managing to have time for fun in, just less. Don't burn yourself out

I have a "no studying on Friday night" rule unless I have a big project/test/etc the following week. That's my fun night. 🙂 Gives me something to look forward to during the week when I work/study.

Ive heard quite a few med students say they have more fun in medical school than they did in undergrad. Hopefully that will be the case for me.

Priorities priorities..

If you are all consumed with the pre med cult then you are gonna burn out soon.. unless youre a robot and enjoy punishment

Those of us who are about to graduate or already have will be the first to tell you to enjoy and take advantage of every second of your 4 years. It is the most fun you will ever have and you will never get it back. Do what you have to do to meet your goals but in no way does that preclude you from having just as much fun as a communications major. If that means you get a 92 instead of a 96 on some test then so what! I made it into med school and could I have worked harder? Sure. Could I have volunteered more? Sure. Could I have studied a lot more for my mcat? Of course. But, I needed a balance in my life and I found one that worked for me. I was still able to go out most weekends with my friends.. take random road trips.. go to vegas my senior year.. spend a summer being lazy by the pool and playing golf.. on and on. But, when I needed to work I did it efficiently and in a manner that gave me the best chance to achieve my goals. Good luck!

I was nerdy and had fun. Studied absurdly hard at times, like the week before tests, while partying, well, basically the rest of the time. I was probably able to do that because my ECs were not the typical time-consuming bullsh*t like treasurer of the pre-med society or whatever. You can have a lot of fun if you choose to make sacrifices wisely. For example I didn't sacrifice my Thursday nights- I usually went out and had fun. But at the end of every semester, when everyone got drunk on the last day of classes, I distinctly remember always being in the library studying for finals. I never ended a single semester any differently.

I had a great time in college...I played varsity soccer for four years, was a competitive snowboarder in the winter months at regional and national competitions, sang in an a capella choir and belonged to a fraternity - went to a party every weekend- and always had a girlfriend.

You just have to be organized and when it is time to study, then study with intense concentration - treat your studies like a job. I did not waste my time watching television or playing video games.

Study hard and party hard.

Just to clarify I do find time for friends, probably more than I should. But I still feel like other people have much much more time for fun stuff.

Maybe it's just the life of a pre-med.......

I have a no-studying ANY night rule. Get homework and work done during the day, have fun at night.

i think you're doing college wrong.

I have a "no studying during the weekend at all or if a test is any further than 3 days out" rule.

You can totally have fun in college and still get good results. I would think grades could suffer if you weren't having any fun.

College? Fun? In my situation, I wouldn't exactly use those two words in the same sentence.

Not gonna lie, college has been 4 of the best years of my life. Sure it's sucked sometimes, but that's the way it'd be with anything else. You've just got to do things that you enjoy doing when you're not studying. Volunteer and get to know the staff of a clinic or hospital, get drunk with the grad students/post-docs in your lab (ain't nothing funnier than karaoke with your entire lab), etc.

are u a senior, if you scheduled right you can be coasting right now...I think this quarter and next quarter I will be going out at least 2 nights a week. This year I have had more fun than the past three years combined, gotta live it up before med school right?

Be more efficient in your studies. Don't watch tv and study at the same time when you're really watching tv the entire time and convincing yourself you're studying.

Haha I love some of the ridiculous posts on here.

How can one NOT have fun in college?!
