If one submits on the first day possible in early June, when are secondaries likely to arrive? Do they tend to be clumped together (like I might get 10 in one week), or are they spread over 2-3 months? Thanks so much!

once u submit it takes some time for the aamcas ppl to verify u. then each school takes varying amounts of time to get u the secondaries. how many u get on a given week will depend how many and what schools u applied to. i got about 1 every week for 2 months, but i only applied to about 8? (im trying to figure it out in my head...its wierd how u start to forget these things with time and i only sent em out last cycle)

i heard of ppl getting secondaries throughout june, july, august, and september. it really will depend on the school. if u apply to a bunch, u could very well get a number of em in one week

It usually takes about 4-6 weeks for AMCAS to be verified and the schools to receive it. You should expect them in July or August. As to whether you will be rained with secondaries or get them over a certain period, the rate-determining steps is the processing of the particular school.

I'm pretty sure this isn't accurate. From looking at early mdapps people, it seems that secondaries come in mid/late june. Good luck! I'm aiming for the first day possible too.

The length of time for verification depends on when you submit. People who submitted within a few days after AMCAS opening got their apps verified in a day or so. If you submit in July, you're probably looking at 3 weeks. Later... I don't know. There was a thread last year where people posted this information, and someone even made a graph of the average wait time. If I can find that, I'll link to it.

EDIT: Here's the list of verification times. And here's the graph.

yep with an early june submission, you can expect secondaries late june/early july.

the later you submit, the longer your amcas processing time will be and the later your app will get to schools which will lead to late invitations for secondaries.

early is the way to go. 👍

What do you mean by "verification" ? Like a background check?

I can't find a way to make the graph big enough to actually read when I click on it - can someone help?

AMCAS also checks whether or not you entered the BCPM classes correctly. During the verification process, AMCAS makes any changes as needed.

Some secondaries will find their way into your inbox the minute you hit submit on AMCAS, but most will take time to get there as other people have noted already.

Just another thing to think about is to do a search on SDN for secondary prompts or maybe go to school's websites and see if they have secondaries online. (I know that PCOM had its secondaries online). That way you can get a head start on working on them because some of them are ridiculously lengthy, i.e. 6 questions from UCONN. And the rule of thumb that my advisor gave me is once you get the secondary officially, try to turn it around in 2 weeks.

the above is good advice. some schools send reflex secondaries to everyone as soon as your app is verified, while a majority look at apps (takes 1-4 weeks) after amcas verification and then send secondaries. there are some schools that don't start going through applications until july 1.
the "rush" of applications starts to come in august, and things proceed much more slowly if you submit then.

personally, i submitted july 11, amcas verified in 3 business days, i got secondaries late july through august, and interviewed sept/oct/nov.

Wow! Lucky you! I submitted July 18 and took about 3 weeks to verify (nothing was changed on my app).

Anyone have the link for the secondary prompts?

I tried the search function and couldn't locate the thread. Anyway, thanks!

Do these secondary prompts remain same from year to year? Or, do they change every year?

When people say "verified" in terms of AMCAS, is that including the MCAT, or just grades/transcripts? I mean if I submit my transcripts/grades/everything in May and submit on the first day possible, will AMCAS begin the process, or do they wait until everything is in, including MCAT scores?

It only refers to your uGPA being validated along with right course classifications. AMCAS already have your MCAT scores with them (or will have them if you haven't taken them by the time your AMCAS is verified).
