Hypothetically speaking, If one was to have a significant other with very competitive Med. School stats and said one had a very good chance of getting into a clinical program would there be any chance to see if they got into the same school or a school in the same city at times very close to one another. To put it simply, How does the application timeline for clinical phych work

(I know, stupid question, but I am the med schooler and I am asking this question on account of my significant other and I amtrying to find out the approximate application dates and admission comittee descision releases for clinical psych to see if the dates are around the same time as med school descision releases)

Thank you so much for your help.

Thank you so much for your help.

We, clinical psych people, typically find out between March and April and decisions HAVE to be made in writing by students by April 15th. I have no idea how this relates to the time frame for med applicants.

I don't mean to put a damper on your hopes, but realize that clinical psych is extremely competitive, more so than most med schools. And acceptance into our programs are based mostly on research match rather than stats (though stats definitely get you looked at). Make sure when you guys are choosing schools to apply to that your SO looks into the research interests of the faculty there. Even if they have a 1500 GRE and 4.0 GPA, if research interests do not match, they won't get in.

Good luck. I hope it works out for you both.

Also, application deadlines for clinical programs usually fall between December 1st and mid-January. Invitations to interview typically come as early as January and as late as the first couple weeks of March. Interviews themselves fall into the late January to mid March range. Of course, there are some programs that fall outside of these ranges, but I think most here would agree on those spreads.

Hello!

I am in the exact same situation since my sig other is applying to med school and I am applying to clinical psych programs. It will be difficult, but we are definitely planning on making it work, one way or another! Make sure both of you apply to a large number of schools to multiply the odds of getting in schools that are close by.

Also, you (the med school applicant) should apply asap (since interviews and admissions are on a rolling basis for a lot of med schools), so that you have a chance of knowing where you got in before April 15th (the decision deadline for clinical psych programs). If you wait too long to apply, you might only know after April 15th and that would complicate things...

Good luck to you both!

Even if you don't get into schools in the same area, at least you can rest assured that you'll both be way too busy to date anyone else 😛
