I'm kinda bummed by this forum since the threads posted are so brainless and bland. If I have to look forward to being around people that think like this for the next 4 years, I don't know what I am going to do. A thread about "What shoes should I wear for standing long hours"??? Or "when is a good time for maternity leave"?? What the hell is going on here. Is anyone passionate about their job or has it just zapped their brains dry and left them bland and boring. In other professions, there are interesting topics to talk about. No wonder when I go to the pharmacy the pharmacist is so stonefaced and and bitter-looking. He/She is bored out of her mind and doesn't give a crap about the job. Does anyone have any input on this?

What I mean is that the threads in the forum reflect give a certain overall impression. When I look at other forums on this site, I see more interesting and passionate conversations rather than threads like the one about "what shoes I should wear for 8 hour shifts".

And how dare you bash the shoe topic. Next to what brand of compression stockings to wear, this is our bread and butter of conversations

Try sewing, it has a lot more zing than pharmacy.

But seriously, what kind of topics are you expecting?

You're right. I am expecting too much. I chose this profession so I shouldn't be complaining. PhD. forums are much more interesting but I guess that is just the nature of the job and the mentality of the students. I actually got offers for PhD in chemistry but turned them down for pharmacy. That's my fault.

You must be a huge chem nerd to find those topics interesting. Don't get me wrong though, I actually enjoyed organic chem. I wouldn't discuss it ever again but I did enjoy it.

If you're that interested in a PhD program, try looking at something along the lines of drug development. Now that can be some interesting stuff.....sometimes.

I did research for two years in my undergrad and was laboratory manager also. I spent a lot of my time reading publications and talking with my professor or PI (principle investigator). He really pushed me in the direction of research and academia but I ended up applying for both PhD and PharmD and then had to go through the painful time of making a decision. The PhD programs were completely paid for...I'm just going to stop talking about this because I am becoming pretty sad. But at the same time I'm kinda laughing at myself. It a weird situation.

Did you ever consider that maybe since we spend most of our days dealing with the field and/or the studies that the forums are a good place to come and escape it all with some light-heartedness?

Stop being so serious... you'll die at an early age!

You can still do research-type work even with just a pharmD. Granted, it won't be all laboratory but I'm sure you can find a niche.

Have you considered industry after you graduate? That might be something you'd like

I have thought about it but haven't found any solid information about it. If you know of some options please let me in on them.

Your school should be a good source for that information.

We had several guest speakers come and speak to us about industry-type work but that was usually the cue for my nap time.

I think those shoes, maternity, etc posts are completely valid. Those are practical things you should think of when working in a pharmacy. Of course we are all (or most of us) passionate about pharmacy but we will suffer a lot of inconveniences if we dont consider those practical issues. What to wear, how many pens to carry, what book/pda program to carry in your white coat pockets, and of course what shoes to wear...may not sound important to an "accepted student" but once you start working, you will start wondering yourself.

It's not just us. The med students have had threads about wearing makeup to class or what pens they like to use. DO forums are the same MD/DO debate ad nauseum, Podiatry is the same way.

This forum is in a rut of doom and gloom for the time being, but it'll break free eventually.

Here's a fun game: name a brand name drug for every letter of the alphabet. Should take about 5 minutes of your time.

You're a Labrat and you don't quite understand what it means to be in the field of pharmacy thereby some of the pertinent topics discussed here (albeit random and non-related..especially the ones I start) don't get digested nor affect your intellect. That's why PhD forum is more interesting for you..because you can relate.

So quit your bitchin and try to learn.

Otherwise you're like that ugly duckling at a party alone in the corner complaining..."This party is boring..."

It sounds like the real problem is you regret not going into research. If that's the truth, don't go to pharmacy school and re-apply for PhD programs.

Not everyone is suited for being a pharmacist, and not everyone is suited to be a researcher. I myself am leaving research for pharmacy.

Part of the reason these threads are more practical is that pharmacy takes a certain level of training. I read the threads on drugs, but I don't yet have the knowledge to completely understand them.

Really make sure that you want to go to pharmacy school. Why did you apply in the first place? What made you decide to go?

What else if he chose not to pursue his passion for research.

Of all the people to post this comment it had to be you!!! Dude this is funny! I took a 2-week vacation from this forum because of all the new members posting completely worthless stuff. If memory serves correct I believe I crowned you as the member who posted the most incoherent babbling I have ever read on SDN. Here is the post for your review.

Of course a few short days later this little gem was posted and will never be replaced as the most incoherent, confused babbling ever posted on the internet.

Pharmacy also need to launch in poor countries to save the life.
my request to global authorities to be serious with the pharmacist need
because.............
PHARMACIST IS A NEED RATHER THAN DESIRE

So here is my input. If ya don't like it go somewhere else. No one forced you to become a member and no one is forcing you to stay. As evidenced above its not like you are burning up the forum with relevent, thoughtful and insightful comments or threads.

I agree its annoying as hell to see a thread started by someone who joined 5 minutes ago that is a repeat of a topic that has been beat to death on here. I think you will find if you do more reading than posting there is some valuable information to be gleaned off this forum. There is a diverse mix of students and pharmacists from all over the United States. My final word of advice.....read more than you post especillay if you haven't even started pharmacy school. Topics that seem bland or boring now may actually have some relevance to you.

What's wrong with pi bonds? Don't you want to hear tales of compounds that are rich in electron density? I know I sure as heck do. It's the kind of stuff that gets me up in the morning.

Even more nonsense

I loved these quotes the first time, thanks for bringing them back! Many laughs. To the OPs point, it might be helpful if we had a few more merged threads or "stickies" to consolidate some of the common thread topics. I've only been here since last month and many of the discussions already seem redundant.

Also to the OP, the practice of pharmacy isn't exactly a thrill ride. Most of the day-to-day "excitement" comes from pressure driven by volume, with the occasional bizarro situation that could be called exciting.

And how you deal with the bizarro situations... some of my high points in pharmacy was how my pharmacist dealt with the out of reality patients.

I'm challenging, not encouraging. The point of this thread was basically for him to tell us how unintellectual and dispassionate he finds everyone else.

hahaha...what's next, pulling over a black guy for no reason?
HAHA. that stuff is for real! My parents (both asian), but dad gets very dark during summer (and he looks like James Earl Jones) gets pulled over all the time. My mom gets away with sh.t like driving through a gas station to avoid and a red light and she just goes, "Oh, sorry officer, I didn't know I couldn't do that." Dad never misses a ticket. He got 3 this month.

So you don't think this is controversial?

Saying "This is boring" does not make you controversial.

Farrah Fawcett died and went to heaven. When she arrived at the pearly gates, God, being a "Charlie's Angels" fan, told her that she could have any one wish granted. Farrah told God that her only wish was for all the little children of the world to be safe.

Michael Jackson died later that day.

i agree this place has sucked in the last few weeks...
although you sir are a noob to pharmacy since you haven't even had a class yet and no one cares what your education was before pharmacy school because it does not matter. you learn the pertinent stuff in pharmacy school...

i do suggest if its research you want, the phd in pharmaceutical science is the way to go. pharmd is more for drug trials and PK/PD stuff in terms of research

So you don't think this is controversial?

Well you're right, it is controversial: Some here think you're a "noob" while others maintain that in the grand taxonomy of things, you are in fact more appropriately classified as a "douchebag." It is certainly a tough call and I am sure this debate will continue to intensify, so Kudos to you. Still, there are other controversial topics all around, however trivial they may be, so there is nothing novel about this particular thread. In fact, this thread has contributed to the very blandness of the forum that you contemn.

Sometimes I wanna post about all of the craziness that's flying around in my brain, like the fact that sand shouldn't be a singular word, because it's a collective substance, but I don't.

Sorry Robbie.

You can't be an intellectual around here. People on this forum would rather talk about which company pays the most, how mindless retail pharmacy is (in a mindless way, of course!), and their favorite sports team. They also like to act like they're better than everyone else, at times, because they know obscure crap that no one cares about.

Again, sorry Robbie.
