*** Tmdsas 2007 ***

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those of you that requested some minor changes via email after you had already submitted your application, how long did it take? Any confirmation from TMDSAS?

Do I need to include Spring 2007 classes on the TMDSAS application. I only included Fall 06 because I'm registered for them already....

Anyone?

Also, how long to get processed if they already have my transcripts and committee letters?

Thank You 😍

1) No, but be sure to send in transcripts every semester with the coursework.

2) 2-3 weeks. It's been almost 3 weeks for me... 😡

We should start one of these submission threads for Texas Applicants!!!

question on TAMU secondary -- I've been slacking a little bit on filling out secondaries, but how did you guys answer the question about highlighting experiences/ qualities? did you list, bullets, paragraph, other? Most of the stuff I want to say was already on the TMDSAS app, so should I just repeat what it says on there because my experiences teaching and doing research are already on there??

TAMU secondary --- This is what I have to say, should I just say it like this:

Research: primary investigator for study assessing the psychological impact of Hurricane Rita; currently conducting binding studies of folic acid and derivatives to biological macromolecules with plans for a paper to be submitted in August and presentations in August(Lamar U.) and October (ACS Regional Mtg.)

Academic: taught supplemental instruction course for microbiology and biology (2 semesters), taught general biology laboratories (1 semester), tutored general chemistry (2 semesters), tutored 5th graders at local elementary school (1 year)

Primary Care: spent 36 hours shadowing in primary care clinic

Anastasis: Submitted 6/6 (I think), transcripts received in June, Verified on 6/21
Pemberley: Submitted 6/13 w/ transcripts already in, LORs in 6/26, Verified 6/28
Jota: Submitted 6/9, transcripts received in May, LORs in 6/22, Verified 6/21

So i was looking at my completed primary AMCAS and TMDSAS applications printed out and I feel like the TMDSAS application hides the significance of your work/activities. The AMCAS gave you plenty of room to describe each EC, but the TMDSAS barely gives room and just ask you to LIST things. Does anyone else feel like they look like a weaker applicant on the TMDSAS compared to the AMCAS? To me it seems like the AMCAS favors people with unique experiences, while the TMDSAS favors people with a long list of generic awards and experiences. Considering that UT-H and UT-SA and whoever else ( i cant remember right now) dont even require secondaries, it just makes me feel like I need to some how find a way to elaborate on the TMDSAS, but there just isn't room! For medically related activities did you simply list the name of the doctor/hospital/dates? same goes for research experiece? Because this doesnt even compare to AMCAS description which handles all of that in its drop down menus AND THEN gives you ~1300 characters to elaborate. Does anybody have any clue what I am saying here?

Which Texas schools interview applicants before LORs are in? All of them?

Because it looks like it'll be at least mid august until my recommendation packet will be in... 🙁

Has anyone successfully listed engineering courses as 'Non Science?' Or has TMDSAS insisted that they be listed as 'Other Science' by asking for corrections?

hey, after submitting secondaries to texas a&m, tech and southwestern, how do i follow through to make sure that the schools received all my information (fees etc.)
thanks!

you can check your application status for tech on their website. they list the date they received everything (TMDSAS, photos, secondary fees, sceondary app, etc)

I hope you try this, get caught, and placed in the "problem pile," (from which few applications emerge, muhahahahaha.)

Seriously, don't be an A-hole. Follow the rules. List your engineering courses as Science. I know it sucks, but we all have to do it.

Yes, you get an email letting you know.

so does anyone think your SES letter (socioeconomic status) letter makes a difference? You can be labeled an A B C or D.

did anyone's "last master file update" recently change? mine changed friday, but i hadnt sent anything in and had been processed for a while... any ideas?

My status page doesn't list 2 of my three transcripts as received, but I called TMDSAS and said they were received--no problems. My 3rd transcript came in today (a foreign transcript that they weren't waiting for to process) and it's listed as received.

Do I have reason to worry? I submitted July 2.

---

TXTECH07 - I agree with you about the activities. Pretty lame on the part of TMDSAS (in addition to its very existence, which irritates the hell outta me). I just plan on hyping it up in interviews, and I highlighted my main EC in the PS.

thanks for the answer JJ -- wasn't trying to be an a-hole or skirt the rules...just wanted to make sure that was in fact tmdsas policy and not that of an impatient person at their call center

yep, listing engineering courses as science ones is gonna suck.

best of luck

Sorry about that. The whole issue is just a sore spot with me because my TMDSAS Science GPA < Overall GPA < BCPM GPA because of my engineering courses.

Good Luck to you too

J

if I took a university class (TAMS, for those of you who know what that is) while in high school, how do I classify that? I tried to do Pre-Freshman and "Summer", but it said everything prefreshman has to be listed as AP?

thanks! how about my previous question? do you know? how should university classes taken during high school be counted as?

This was my thinking: they say that all summer courses should be listed for the subsequent year (so a class taken b/w freshman and soph years becomes a sophomore year class). For TMDSAS, I'm considering my life before freshman year as a huge summer. So all university classes during high school became freshman classes.

Thoughts?

hmm.. that's interesting, and a good possibility. maybe i'll just send them an email..

They counted all of my classes taken during high school as part of one massive freshman year. Thats what I put, and thats what they kept it as. I was told to do that by someone who did it last year. My app was sent to schools on June 14th and I have 2 interviews so apparently its not a problem to do it that way. Good luck guys!

dang you already have interviews?! i'm on amcas schedule, which i guess is way behind.. argh!

How long did it take from the time you dropped your certification page in the mail until the time TMDSAS acknowledged they received it? I mailed mine out a week ago, and there's still this big blank on my status page.

2 days, but I am in Austin (although I think it pretty much only takes 1 day to mail anything first class within TX.)

Yup. I mailed them Saturday 7-8, and they acknowledged on the status page that they received them on Monday 7-10.

Is anyone applying to the UT-Houston MD/PhD program or in it currently? If so, did you end up writing two separate essays for the 'why medicine' prompt or did you submit the same for both AMCAS and TMDSAS? (I ask this since the MD/PhD program uses the TMDSAS as its secondary app...but as you all know, the two applications have the same questions...)

thanks!

I sent in my cerification last Thursday and they were received yesterday and I am from Chicago, go figure🙂

I have a quick question:

I sent in my committee letter on the 29th and it was received on the 7th. I also sent a letter via Interfolio on the 29th but it is still not marked as received? Does it take longer to verify Interfolio letters?---I was thinking of dropping them an email....

Did you guys list all the other schools you're applying to in your TMDSAS application? I listed all of them and they're all pretty much all "reach" schools. I'm afraid this might hurt my chances with the Texas schools? Is this thought unfounded?

Nah I don't think so.

I listed all the AMCAS schools I was applying to at the time (that list has changed now but I doubt TMDSAS wants me to change it).

bumping in hope of a response🙂

I have a quick question regarding the UT Southwestern secondary application. Just as a refresher, here's the prompt:
In the text box provided below, describe the setting in which you envision conducting your medical career. Also include how and why you think this setting would help fulfill your interests related to the practice of medicine.

How specific do they want us to be? I can describe sorts of different settings, but I'm not exactly sure which one they want. Is it hospital vs privately owned? City vs rural area? I was thinking they want something general like that or am I off track?

Thanks

hi.
how did you guys know when your a&m and tech secondaries were complete (i.e. the certification page and fee were received and processed?)
also, does anyone have interviews yet? if so from where and what is the timeline like?
thanks so much.

Where are you guys mailing your certfication stuff from? i sent mine in about 2 weeks ago from new york and it has yet to be received, i would hate to lose my 7 beautiful photos, but seriously, how long should it take? is it becuase i am out of outer state, as in international student?

Yes, many of us have interviews. Rather than repeat it here, there is a separate "Texas Interviews" thread.

Ugh. My cert. page is still MIA. Now I'm worried I didn't put enough stamps on it. I used 3 stamps! Of course, they were the 37 cent ones from Christmas... 😳 I had a lot of Christmas mailing to do.

When did you send it in exactly, I have one piece of info mia from about 2 weeks ago. But, I would email them if I were you, thats some important info.
