Bumping my response to your question.Anastasis said:I dunno - do they show on the received documents page that they got them?
i'm sorry I didn't know the original response was for me....anyways..i don't know I just mailed it Friday, so I wondering if I should call on Monday or wait till they receive it and see what they say... just don't want a delay to be for that reason.......Anastasis said:Bumping my response to your question.
They leave you dangling until about a week before match day when UTMB sends rejections. The rest send rejections after match day.Beadle said:I'm going to go ahead and put this question here since TX people will be more prone to read it....
If any of the schools decide they do NOT want to extend you an invitation to interview, do they let you know, or just leave you dangling?
I'd call Monday about it if I were you and see what they say. Remember that Tuesday is the fourth so they might have monday and tuesday off.eigball said:i'm sorry I didn't know the original response was for me....anyways..i don't know I just mailed it Friday, so I wondering if I should call on Monday or wait till they receive it and see what they say... just don't want a delay to be for that reason.......
I wondered about your first question too, because I have LORs on file with interfolio with a signed waiver. I really don't want to go back to my LOR writers just to fill out the TMDSAS form, but now the TMDSAS site says that LORs without it are marked "unofficial" and that doesn't sound good to me.greytmedic said:Two questions
First-I have LOR's on file at my school with a form that is very similar to the TMDSAS evaluation form. Do I need to track down my LOR writers and get them to fill out another form and have them send a letter specifically to TMDSAS or will TMDSAS take letters from my school's letter service? I have seen other people ask the same question but haven't seen if anyone has official word.
Second-I am applying to UT at San Antonio because my entire family (Parents, Siblings and their families, Grandparents, and even Uncle and Aunt) have all moved down to San Antonio all about the same time about three years back. I also spent some time at Ft. Sam while I was in the army. Everytime I have gone to San Antonio I am really impressed by the city and I have been impressed by the university and College of Medicine as I have researched schools. I just want to know if only applying to one Texas school will look bad. Thanks for any response.

Great! I guess they just wanted a form with a waiver. Pemberley, whose LORs did you use? I won't be able to get a LOR from my grad school advisor in until I start classes in August, so that will definitely be my 3rd "later" LOR. I have 3 LORs logged in Interfolio now. One from an English prof, one from a chem prof, and one from my employer (an MD). Out of these 3, which 2 would be best to use for TMDSAS?Pemberley said:They marked my LORs from Interfolio as "received" without raising the issue of the extra form. I'm hoping that's a good sign.

They received my certification page & photos & check on 19 Jun and sent the application out to medical schools on 28 Jun.Zuerst said:For those of you whom are verified... how long did it take?
Pemberley said:That being said, I would go with chem prof and MD employer. Just my 2-cents worth, and it's probably not even worth that.

I didn't really elaborate on the chronology thing and I only elaborated a bit in the biography section. If they want to know more, they need to interview me.mychelle774 said:Oh man I feel late with this application. Good job for getting it in early guys!
Are we supposed to elaborate on our activities in the Personal Biography section or cram it into the space given in the Chronology section? Or even at all? The sample for Chronology was really just listing. I only have one entry for Research under Personal Biography so I want to know if I should explain what it was about there. Do they even want to know? It does say "list" ...

Please Please Please interview me? Pretty Please, UTMB and A&M!!
I went ahead and included jobs and ECs. I think you should too.mychelle774 said:Thanks Anastasis! TMDSAS's formatting is really getting on my nerves. So you think in the chronology section they really only want the cut and dry account of your time (I graduated, went to school, worked over winter, went to school, worked over summer, etc)? No EC's or jobs we may have done while in school? I am really not liking how this carpenter dude hasn't explored other avenues of work.
How do you know when you are processed? I go back to the login page and it looks the same as when I clicked submit.jota_jota said:Submitted 6/8, processed 6/21

You will get an email with the subject "TMDSAS Application Processed" 🙂notdeadyet said:How do you know when you are processed? I go back to the login page and it looks the same as when I clicked submit.
Don't tell them you got into another med school, which is how they will view the Carib. It will look like you aren't willing to go anywhere for a medical degree. Just tell them how you love medicine.DrVanNostran said:Optional Essays:

2. Please describe any personal characteristics and/or important or challenging experiences you have had that will contribute to the diversity of or provide educational benefits to the student body.
For the above question, I am writing about my public health degree and some issues that I can bring to the table, and so forth.
1. Briefly discuss any unique circumstances or life experiences that are relevant to your application which have not previously been presented.
For this question, I started on something but wasnt sure If I needed to write anything. I was goint to write about how I was about to attend a school in the caribbean, but at the last moment decided to study for the MCAT and take it one last time to see if I can get a competitive score and that road taken....Should I scratch this idea?

I only did the second one...first one my mind was blank.DrVanNostran said:This special experiences essay is killing me, I have everything done but the conclusion of this essay. Nothing is flowing...All this for a 1/10 chance to get in med school🙂
I really think they created the TMDSAS app in 1998, said "this will do", and just NEVER decided to change it.DrVanNostran said:LOL I just realized I have a class that was double digit credit hours and it wont let me enter 10 into TMDSAS, this is going to be a long night 🙂

DrVanNostran said:For the chrono part, I just included: Graduation from HS, colleges attended, jobs, and time I took MCAT....Oh and I also included some vacations.
I was going to add EC's but decided not to at the end after I looked at the example.
Pemberley said:I had lots of these; I called, and they said to enter a 10-credit class twice, in identical lines of 5 credits each.
mychelle774 said:Hmm what to do ... I'm gonna type everything in, print it out, and look at it as if I were the adcom. If it's overwhelming, I'll simplify. Just FYI. *wink*

After finishing it, AMCAS was a breath of fresh air.
I think a bunch of people had that problem. I never actually printed mine out, so I don't know. If it displays OK on the screen, you should be fine. It might just be an IE 6 lack-of-flexibility in printing problem (there are many.) IE 7 is supposed to solve all of these, but I digress.....DrVanNostran said:I actually liked the TMDSAS until I hit the double digit credit issue.
Another NEWB question:
So when I look at the prinable version of my application it looks ok, but when I print it out the right margin is cut out a bit. Is that just because my margins are to big for the format?
Basically, if it looks ok in the prinable version is that what I am aiming for?? Thanks 😀
It IS optional, so if you don't have anything to write about, then don't. Personally, I think it's better to leave something like that blank than fill it with BS.DrVanNostran said:This special experiences essay is killing me, I have everything done but the conclusion of this essay. I am an MD-only applicant, but from what I understand, your research expereince is an integral and important part of an MD-PhD application. My opinion is that I wouldn't apply until you have a strong application in this regard. Does your school have an MD-PhD advisor? If so, you should talk with him/her.JDMD243.0 said:I'm a nontraditional student with excellent MCAT/GPA stats. I am interested in MD/PhD programs but I just started an independent research project (synaptic plasticity) with a professor in May, so my research experience is pretty limited at this point. My professor has some connections with UT medical schools and is encouraging me to apply to MD/PhD programs now. I definitely want to go for MD/PhD but am having some difficulty deciding whether to go for it now or wait and only apply MD now...Here is the list of variables I'm trying to weigh out:
1) UT and most other state schools (I am a KS resident) MD-only programs are very difficult to get into if you are not a resident. Most state school MD-PhD programs do NOT have a bias towards in-state residents. This makes me lean toward applying MD/PhD at state schools and MD-only to private schools. The reason-being is that most private schools are pretty flexible in terms of applying to MD/PhD after the first year of medical school and I would have a strong reseach background at that point.
2) should I apply MD/PhD to TX schools now or in the fall? If I apply now, I don't have much research to discuss. If I apply in the fall, I have more experience under my belt but am concerned about being late in the applications cycle.
3) I've dropped my AMCAS MD-only applications but have not sent my TMDSAS applications yet because I'm trying to figure out what to do. This decision is further complicated by the fact that all UT schools have different MD/PhD application processes. UT-Southwestern makes you go through AMCAS for MD/PhD but TMDSAS for MD-only. I cannot tell if it is a completely separate admissions process for these two programs. UT-Houston does both through TMDSAS.
So in a nutshell, I've submitted AMCAS MD-only to about 20 schools and am trying to figure out what to do with TMDSAS. I have already written these schools in TX but haven't gotten a real firm reply in terms of how to go about making a decision. Any advice?
BlackBantie said:Gosh, it's been almost two and a half weeks now and they still haven't verified my application. They did take and cash my money in so they better hurry up. Must be backlogged... If I get flagged, will I get put back at the end of the list and have to wait weeks again before the application is sent out? I have a horrible feeling that I probably made a mistake somewhere.
frustrating...
