No

On a sidenote, when is everyone planning to submit their app?

EARLY.

Realistically, I am at the mercy of:

1. My LOR writers
2. My School's Health Professions Office (Sends LORs to TMDSAS)
3. The AAMC (MCAT scores)

I'll probably submit after my HPO sends the LORs to TMDSAS.

Does anyone know if TMDSAS calculates a BCPM GPA, like AMCAS?

When I was entering my coursework, I had a question about how to count my Engineering courses. I called TMDSAS, and they said to count them as "Other Science" courses. This will probably hurt my BCPM GPA (3.7x -> 3.5ish,) IF TMDSAS calculates one. I suppose I could just call them back and ask them......

AMCAS has a separate category for Engineering courses....

TMDSAS will put the engineering courses in the science, I know how you feel since they are soo much more challanging and reduce our BCPM GPA, but that's how it is. On the AMCAS though, it will separate

Yes, TMDSAS calculates for you a science and a non-science GPA.

It's likely used just for statistical and demographic purposes, although I was asked something specific about my high school standing by a San Antonio interviewer. Which is strange because that interview was supposed to be closed file.

What about Computer Science classes? These also go into the other science bucket?

It says server down for mnt so I can't check.

Thanks.

For the life of me I cant remember if I already asked this but..Can I send my letters to TMDSAS via Interfolio or do they have to come directly from the writers? Thanks again🙂

Sorry its 3 AM here I think someone did answer my question before, but any more clarification would be great. Im going to bed, good night 😴

I think you can use Interfolio. I'd email TMDSAS just to make sure [email protected]. They're usually good about replying promptly.

For 1.5 semester credit hours enter as 1 or 2 hours. It won't let me put a decimal value. Only +ve integers.

EDIT: Just confirmed from TMDSAS. Round 1.5 to 2. 0.5 to 1. However something like 1.3 will round down to 1.

How does interfolio work? Why would one need it if their school's HPO already does the same thing? Is it strictly for those people who have graduated from college? Is it publicly recognized amongst med schools?

Anyone else have no idea what their hs rank was? Do they KNOW how long ago that was for me!?!

AggieJohn - you go to Ring Dance this weekend?

1. Interfolio collects LORs and forwards them to Medical Schools
2. You wouldn't
3. Not strictly, but those are probably the biggest users of it
4. Yes

Not all schools will accept it.

Pre-med committee is your best bet.

I have no idea either. I called my high school and they are like, "We don't have those any longer...they're archived at the capitol". What! So if I really, really want them I have to call some bureaucracy to dig them out of a file. So ******ed. I am just going to put n/a. I even called my first University to see if they have them...nope. They don't keep those either.

😱

whatever.

So here's a silly question: How are you filling out some of the boxes, like honors and awards..are you listing them all separated by commas or is it ok to put each on a separate line? I know, I'm crazy and paranoid like that 😉

I listed them on separate lines.

Is this the correct place for questions?

I hope so. I know I have to send my transcript to TMDSAS, but which address? They have one at the bottom of every webpage, but it never specifically says "send them here."

Yes, it's that address. I went to my college transcript ordering page and it even has the "702 Colorado" address listed next to TMDSAS.

Okay, so I need some clarification.

I have started on my AMCAS application.

When can I submit it?

Is this app. (amcas ) sent to the Texas schools, or only those we list? I'm from TX, so do I list only out of state schools I'm applying to? Or do I list TX schools here too?

When can I start submitting the TMDSAS application ( I haven't done this one yet) ?

Should I request my committee evaluation to be sent before I leave school for the summer? Should I request my transcripts before I leave also?

What about each school's application? Is there another one for every school, or after tmdsas and amcas I just wait for secondaries???

I'm starting to freak out about turning everything in early. I want to find out before Christmas if at all possible. =)

I don't mean to be rude, but DO RESEARCH!

An Executive Summary:

First, I will assume that you are not applying MD/PhD, if so, things get even messier.

ALL TX schools BESIDES Baylor (INCLUDING TCOM) use TMDSAS. TMDSAS is the only way to apply to these schools.

Baylor uses AMCAS. AMCAS is the only way to apply to Baylor.

ALL other U.S. Allopathic schools use AMCAS.
ALL other U.S. Osteopathic schools AACOMAS.

Mail Transcript to:

Texas Medical and Dental Schools Application Service
702 Colorado Street, Suite 6.400
Austin, Texas 78701

Oddly enough the TMDSAS lady said no need for ATTN: Transcripts. You'd think that would help organize the ton of mail they're gonna get.

You don't mean to be rude. Ok. It sounded like it.

Of course I am going to frantically call all these places and read the instructions online, etc, while applying. The fact that I am here right now proves I'm not a complete idiot.
Sometimes, however, it's better to get GOOD advice from people who have already gone through the process. I wanted to get input from you guys. I noticed TMDSAS doesn't take +/- into account, but AMCAS does, so I'll probably look better on AMCAS than I will on the TMDSAS application. Since I will be applying outside of Texas also, I just wanted to know if the systems worked together or separately. Thanks for your input though, I appreciate it. 🙂

If you guys want I can edit the first post and make an FAQ for this thread. Post stuff you want there and I'll add it.

Hi baylormed,

I know for TMDSAS, the only schools that have secondary applications are UT Southwestern, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. You do those secondaries only after you've submitted your primary TMDSAS application. You have to find the secondaries on the schools' websites since the schools don't send you the secondaries themselves.

AMCAS schools may be different though - you'll have to see what the procedures are for the individual schools you're applying to. I think Baylor's is one you do yourself on the web.

Thanks!, good to know. So they just let you know that you are elegible to fill out a secondary?
Well, I'm a type A paranoid personality, so I'll probably be harrassing the admissions office with questions all summer long. Get ready, office ladies!!!

You're automatically eligible to do TMDSAS secondaries if you've submitted the primaries. UT Southwestern's secondary is free, but Texas Tech and A&M have fees around $50 if I remember correctly. TCOM (if you're applying DO) also has a secondary.

After TMDSAS is submitted, get started on the secondaries right after... if you're applying to those schools at least. UT Houston, UTMB Galveston, UT San Antonio require nothing but your primary TMDSAS app.

no need of pictures for secondaries. Some secondaries are mostly done online except you have to send in some $.

Does TMDSAS require pictures for each school you're applying to? If so what size 2x2 (passport size) and / or 2x3?

Do we need pics for secondaries? Just trying to get an idea of how many to print out. Anyone know an easy way to take an existing JPEG and print out a bunch of passport size pics without having to cut each one out from a 8.5x11 sheet?

hey, on tmdsas they ask what other schools you're applying to. do we have to list all the schools on here?
also how does which other schools we're applying to affect our application?

List all the non-TMDSAS you are planning on applying to. I doubt it affects your application much. I put down that I was applying to Baylor, but I never did apply there and it didn't hurt me at all.

Its gonna sound stupid because my brain is fried, but what does 'last time taken' mean on Section 11-Record of College Work?

heyimnick said:

That means you didn't retake the course.

heyimnick said:

As chaeymaey said, it means you didn't retake it anytime. The application should have general and detailed instructions for you as you go along, so this information should be available to you.

So, when is the first possible day to turn in TMDSAS? June 1 or May 1? 😕

Although it does say somewhere on the site (which, to justify your question a little, doesn't seem very well organized) that you should only put "no" if you failed or got a bad grade and re-took for a better grade... I'm taking it to mean that classes that were designed to be repeated (ie, volleyball team and chorus and such) you should put "yes." Just my interpretation, not necessarily fact, but I think it makes sense.

I called TMDSAS and the "last time taken" thing refers to when you have taken the EXACT course over again. Here was my example:

I took gen. chem lab at my undergraduate school for my original undergraduate degree. At my u.g. school, this was 1 credit. Because prereqs for gen. chem. lab are 2 credits, I retook the course at a different institution. Even though they were essentially the same course, I was instructed to put "YES" for last time taken for both. Only put "NO" if you ever retook the exact same course.

So, this came up in one of the AMCAS threads, does anybody know if anything will be done with the application before (April '06) MCAT scores arrive (assuming application is submitted with all transcripts and LORs and signature page, etc before MCAT scores arrive?) The official word from TMDSAS was "no -- the application is not complete without MCAT scores," but people have posted that stuff was forwarded to schools before MCAT scores arrived.

I don't want to rush myself to submit on June 1, when I could spend a week or two more polishing my PS even more, for example.
