Jeez, it had been 4 minutes. I like to spread my internet perusings over a plethora of websites, instead of just sticking to SDN (like some folks around here). Also, I'm in Germany and the internet is slow!

Anastasis - thanks!

Glad I wasn't the only one who found her reply rather bitchy.

Txlioness: sometimes you're going to need to wait longer than 5 minutes for an answer.

I really don't want to do the 2nd optional essay, but my pre-med advisor is making me...ugggh....
I did them both, but, personally, I think it is better to write nothing than BS. If you really don't want to do it, then don't!

Maybe she thinks that this is like "Ask Jeeves" or something.....you type in a question and an answer instantly pops out...or maybe like a Magic 8-ball:

Wait, that gave me an idea, here is an answer to her question:

"Outlook Not So Good"

Could Texas schools start sending out rejections before they get our secondaries?
I don't think so... $$$$$$$

Nevermind I didn't see Anastasis' reply.

Anastasis - I think we need a new hobby... At least I have an excuse - there are no World Cup games today!

Anastasis said:
I don't think so. Secondaries mean more money for them. So I doubt they would.

haha...I hope that's the case! I'm still trying to decide whether or not to retake the MCAT in August, and I don't want them to reject me while I'm deciding!

I'm sorting meds at the clinic I volunteer at. It's so boring I need to stop ever 5 minutes so I just log right on to SDN. Geez - I wish there were patients in today.

I'll trade you your med-sorting for my biochemistry exam last-minute-cramming-for-and-taking. 😡 :scared: 😡 :scared:

Are our preclinical years going to be all like biochemistry? Lots of memorizing pathways without any idea why they're important?

Probably. Hopefully someone that knows what the hell they're talking about will respond.

Ana - excuse accepted.

Yes. (Although I really liked Biochemistry, maybe because my Prof. taught us why the pathways were important?) But stuff like anatomy is all rote memorization.

don't appreciate being called or referring to my actions in profane language. i simply was trying to bump up my question so that it would not get lost in the tons of questions in the thread. i wasn't trying to rush anyone.

next time i will just start a new thread. 😱

Why didn't you bump it EVERY 4 minutes then?

Does TMDSAS need to have our committee letter before they can verify us? And what are they using that "other schools you've applied to" box for?

i thought texas people were supposed to be nice...lets not fight, after posting, i also refresh every 2 seconds to see if someone has replied, i think everyone does, but lets get back to the more serious topic, anyone else screw up on the TMDAS?

Thanks, dancer, i will email them now.

Oh yeah right. There was ONE post between when you posted and bumped. Don't get all defensive when someone calls you on your impatience.

I thought I had so I emailed them. They were very helpful (turns out I hadn't screwed up). I've heard of them opening up a section for you to correct what you did wrong. Email them and they'll probably hook you up. Best of luck.

^ yeah and I'm so glad too. it takes forever for our school to send out committee letters & LORs!

Also anyone know what the SES (socioeconomic status) letters stand for? I think you can labeled A-D?

So I thought I was done with the TMDSAS (especially after trying to fit my essay in the stupid ghetto box) until I came across the optional essay page. I just wanted to know if anyone decided to fill this out or if you think it's worth it. Being the overachiever that I am, I think I might... but meh 😕

When listing future classes on TMDSAS, how do you specify them? And do I have to list spring 07 classes as well, even though they are just tentative (and I haven't registered for them).

Tell me if the following is correct:

Last time taken? Y

Grade received? NR

Year taken? Fall 2006, Spring 2007

Please let me know how you did it, and respond to my questions above if you know the answers!

Also, late june/early july still considered early for TMDSAS??
I'm starting to freak out with all the people already filling out secondaries on SDN.

That's correct Topo.

Don't freak out. I am usually an overachiever and I haven't submitted my primary yet.

Thanks 12thmd!!

Oooooo, you're in Germany??
You're making me jealous. I'm a big soccer fan and have been watching the world cup religiously with my dad and brother since it started. 😉

And by the way, I'm a girl, and yes, I like to watch soccer. 😛

I haven't heard anything from TMDSAS, though I have a big hole in my checking account where check #334 used to be, so I know TMDSAS has received my primary.

But I'm a first-time August 2006 MCATer. Will they not consider my primary complete until they receive my scores? Should I not expect to hear anything from them until then?

I know some of the Texas schools require a perfunctory secondary ("click submit and send more money"). Should I wait until I hear from them after they recieve my August scores to do so?

Any and all help is much appreciated...

notdeadyet, when did you submit? (If you posted it here, I'm just being lazy and asking you again 🙂 )

It took me approx. 2 weeks, and I submitted very early (6/8.) Things might've gotten bogged down now. Also, I think they only send things out to schools on Wednesdays (can someone else confirm?) so you might be ready to go next Wednesday. Your processed TMDSAS application WILL be sent out to schools without MCAT scores.

None of the secondaries are "perfunctory" as you describe (they all have at least 2 essays) but you'll have to decide whether you should submit them now, or wait. Most schools say that they don't consider an application complete and ready for review until they have BOTH MCAT scores and your secondary application + secondary app. $$$. In fact, the TTU secondary asks you to re-enter your MCAT scores <shrug>. It's not like other schools where they send/invite you to fill out the secondary. The secondaries are like another part of the primary application (specific to each school.) Baylor is a little different (I did receive an email invite to fill out the secondary, but I had already filled it out!) but Baylor's secondary is probably the easiest one anyway, IMHO.

Good Luck,

Jota

June 19th. Good to know about the timing.

Also good to know about the secondaries. In Section One, where you list the schools you're applying to, it shows Galveston, Houston, San Antonio as NOT requiring secondaries. It indicates that only UTSW, A&M, Tech and UNT require secondaries. This isn't the case?

Yes, that's the case, but what I was trying to say is that they are not like "normal" secondaries, where the school first reviews your primary app. and then invites you to fill out the secondary. Those secondaries are ALL automatic and they WON'T look at your application until you fill them out.

The point that I was trying to make was that, whether you should wait to hear from schools before filling the secondaries out is kind of irrelevant for these schools because you won't hear ANYTHING from the schools UNTIL you complete the secondaries. So, whether or not you fill out the TMDSAS secondaries now or later really depends upon your confidence in your future MCAT score.

Does that make any more sense?

Jota

Another question,

I'm thinking of using the optional special experiences essay (the first one, I've already completed the second one) to talk about my experiences as a border resident.
The question is "describe any exp relevant to your app that have not been discussed elsewhere" and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to do this.
I was thinking of talking about the problem that healthcare providers/administrators face when having to treat undocumented immigrants, that of course, have no insurance etc, and about the taxpayers usually having to pick up those bills. I was also going to include the challenges people face to obtain quality healthcare when they do not have insurance (as in the case of undocumented immigrants and low-income families).

What do you think?

Much, Jota. Thanks for the help. And saving me a toll call to Austin asking why nothing is happening. I'll get on the secondaries...

This question is probably irrelevant but it's bothering me. When do they cash in your checks? They received it a week ago, but my bank says that they haven't done anything with it yet. It makes me sad to see my account with $115 more than it should; false sense of feeling rich. Is it after the application is sent to the schools? I'm still waiting on mine to be processed.

It took about 8 days for mine to clear.

just need an opinion - this was posted elsewhere, but I can't find it.

what is the significance of the OTHER schools question? Am I in "trouble" if I am applying to 17 AMCAS schools along with 6 TMDSAS schools?

Nah - they just want to know I think.

A general question: I have added a bunch of AMCAS schools since I submitted TMDSAS do I need to update my TMDSAS app since I already submitted it?

Ana...have you seen the previews for Vin's new movie "Find Me Guilty?"

I gotta tell ya...my wife loves Vin, but she wasn't too excited about the hairdo in this flick!

Vin Diesel's New Flick

Yeah - I want to see it (I've read reviews that said it was pretty decent) but I'm not so much of a fan of the hair.

What do you guys think of a thread for Texas Applicants where we can talk about interview invites (when they come in)?

It seems quite a few people have already received secondaries from schools applied to TMDSAS. I have yet to receive any, and my application was processed 6/14. Granted, they had to wait for my April 2006 scores to come out, but still, about what time frame should I realize that I probably won't receive secondaries? Thanks.

what if u forgot to put your pin # behind youyr picks do u need to call or just send another batch in???

Ana - I called TMDSAS about this since I'm in the same boat. The lady said don't bother.

Anastasis said:
You don't need to recieve them. They're up on the website. Go to TMDSAS - How to Apply then click on the links. :luck:

Thanks, Anastasis.

But is anyone having problems with 'create new application' on the UTSW secondary app? I can't seem to create a username/password.

What specifically does it say after you click create new? Is the user name you selected taken or what?
