2nd interview invite. San Antonio next Monday 10/19!!! Starting to get nervous about that one. Nothing yet from Houston. 🙁

hey i was wondering when your application was verified? good luck on your baylor interview!

It was never directly verified by the school but it said transmitted on TMDSAS around the end of July like 7/31 and I didn't get invited for an interview until around September 7th, hope that helps

Anyone interviewing on these days? San Antonio--10/19 and Baylor--11/11? And before anyone gives the smart alec remark :nono:---I already checked on predents and didn't see anything, hence the question here.

I know 2 of my friends have interviews at SA on 10/19! I do not think they are on student doctor. Good luck with your interview. I already had my SA interview, and it was relaxing.

Thanks, hopefully I don't trip over myself, act like an idiot, or something. It should be fine though. Let you know how it goes. What kind of questions did they ask you?

i just got an interview at SA for Nov. 9! I'm so excited this is my number one choice 🙂
Congrats!!! You won't be disappointing. I was very impressed when i went there for my interview!

November 2nd is my date at UTDB-Houston.

Anyone have any pointers, breakdowns, and/or tips for the interview?

Ugh, no interviews at UT schools so far. Man, I really thought my DAT score somewhat made up for my crap GPA. This is kind of frustrating. Just needed to vent a little.

Baylor I love you!!!!!

I undrerstand you buddy 🙁 . I was telling to my friends last night how schools weight on GPA more than DAT. Of course if sombody has 23+ in his/her DAT story will be different.

Had my interview at UTHSCSA today. Pretty laid back and no stress at all (well at least not from them, but I was freaking myself out). Overall, both the student and faculty interview asked easy get to know me questions. No curve balls. But I did hear a couple of interviewees get a few difficult ethics questions during their faculty interview. Dr. Cappelli was very nice and friendly. Overall good impression of the school. They're at the top of my list (then again they're the only ones on my list--at least until my interview at Baylor next month). But nonetheless, an excellent school and would love to go there.:xf:

Same here :/ Except my DAT is definitely lower than yours. lol. I'm kind of thankful though that the one and only school I've gotten an interview to is my first choice. I love Baylor too!!!!! 🙂

Interviewed at San Antonio on the 12th! Very relaxing and totally chill... just don't psyche yourself out 🙂 The interview was 1 faculty, 1 student... in all honesty, the student interview is more like you interviewing the student. Haha, I was just asking my DS4 questions about his experiences at UTSA and how he liked it... etc... and he was completely cool with it. He asked a few things about me, but it was just like normal conversation/ice-breaker I would encounter anywhere else.

The facilities were super nice! Although it really does feel like a labyrinth, I'm sure you get used to it? I hope. lol. Hope I get accepted! I have my Baylor interview on the 21st 😱 I'm really psyched but freaking myself out at the same tim! Any pointers?

Yeah I'm really pretty surprised how much they seem to be weighting GPA. I mean, I even have a good upward trend! It seems like the texas schools are getting really competitive.

I have a 3.62 gpa and dat scores of 22/22/22. I interviewed at san antonio and houston in early august, but have heard nothing from baylor. Do they have a min shadowing hours or something? I have 46.

No I don't think so, I think I have less hours than you and got an intervew. There does seem to be something to those that have an interview at Baylor don't have one at the UT schools and those that have interviews at UT schools don't have one at Baylor.

I'm in the exact same situation as you. I have a better gpa but lower dat score and I interview at houston/sa already but haven't heard anything at all from baylor. Has any nonscience majors received interviews from baylor or did yall meet any nonscience majors at your interview there? I don't think baylor would be this bias against nonscience major....

Baylor really likes it if you've taken a LOT of upper division biology so that may be holding back nonscience majors

I'm a Bio major with lots of upper div classes, and 4.0 GPAs my last four semesters. Any one know anything particular that Baylor looks for?

Well, not quite. I don't have a lot of upper level science classes

Who knows what Baylor is looking for. Like I mentioned before I don't have a lot of upper level sciences and my GPA and DAT are average. So you're guess is as good as mine. Maybe a more well rounded applicant, personal statement, who knows what they're thinking. But it's not all about grades, cuz otherwise I wouldn't have an invite there. But I haven't heard from Houston, so ?????

Dr. Miller at Baylor told me they interview VERY little (notice the emphasis on very) nonscience majors. And the ones that they DO interview she said had just as many upper level science credits as science majors.

So yes, they are VERY biased against nonscience majors. Evidently they have seen science majors perform better.

Thanks for the update on baylor. I guess I can stop hoping for an interview invite from them.

I'm surprised you didn't get an interview from them kniner.. you're stats seem pretty good and you showed an upward trend in grades.. I don't know what they want from you...

I also know that value community service pretty high...

Not trying to kill your hope, that's just what I was told at my interview.😳

Caveat: rant against Baylor and UT-Austin.

I have always been told from day 1:
Q. Does my MAJOR matter?
A. No, it doesn't! Don't worry! We want WELL-ROUNDED applicants. We want to see where your passions lie other than JUST dentistry...!!!

And REALLY, if SCIENCE matters so much... are you saying that UTHSCSA and UTHSCH does not pop out good dentists? I think all Texas dental schools graduate more than JUST competent dentists. All the graduates are excellllent. I don't see where Baylor get the understanding that science majors do better.
OH, maybe they think science majors acclimate better to the dental school? Well, isn't that the student's problem? And if Houston and San Antonio's students have handled it (so well, I might add), then can Baylor really argue with that?

Uhm, along with informing us about prerequisites, why didn't our "pre-dent" advisors could give us a heads up that 1/3 of our chances will be flushed down the toilet if we choose a non-science major?

Breathe.
Any of you Baylor fans: before you say anything, please do realize that it would be really hard to comprehend ANY justification at this point. No offense 😀

I agree whole-heartedly with you. I would have loved to major in anything but science, but I knew that (despite what adcoms say) it wouldn't have worked out in my favor...

Dental school is about memorization, memorization, memorization. I think that Baylor wants to matriculate people who are used to that and won't be shell shocked once they're dealing with the ridiculous course load. I'm not trying to justify by any means, but I think that's their reasoning. But like you said, if you have the DAT score and a good GPA to back you up, I don't think your major should even be an issue. You've got the pre-requisites they asked for... it's just all kinda dumb. lol.

And alanan, I graduate in December! I'm so excited 🙂 But I'm in Zoo right now and it's kinda kicking my butt... so, that's making me nervous.

Yeah and I guess Houston and SA feel that I'm not competent enough for their school because I got D's in Intro to Music and Western Political Heritage as an 18 year old freshman 6 years ago.

We all have reasons to complain about schools that haven't given us interviews... Welcome to the club.

Yay!!!! 🙂 I love UTA! 😀

Except we're the shorthorns 😛

The funny thing about GPA...my friend didn't have a stellar GPA at all and he's making nothing but high As on all of his tests/assignments in Dental School.

UTH Schedule:

Get there around 830. Dr. Pierpont introduced himself, the school, and the medical center.
Interviews form 10-12. One group goes on tour while other group has interviews. 1 hour interview with one professor.
Lunch with dental students from 12-1.
Presentations from 1-3.

UT-SA interview Nov 16th. Any one else that day?

Has any one driven from Houston to SA early morning of the interview, or should i go there the night before? I do not know how the I10 traffic looks like early morning. The interview starts at 9:30.

You should probably go the night before. When I went last week, I noticed a sign stating that they were going to be closing one of the lanes on I10 during the work week. Oh yeah the construction zone started just outside of San Antonio. So I wouldn't risk it. Besides you don't want to have to wake up early and look tired and not focused during the interview. There's also quite a bit of traffic in the medical center near the school.

Your better off staying the night in SA. You never know with weather and traffic plus the Medical Center in SA is a bit confusing. You will want to be there a day early to try and find the place so you know exactly where to go. It's always better to be there early and if coming from Houston that morning anything can happen. Last thing you want to do is walk in late and look tired.

Thanks Le14 and astros1fan. You are right. I did not consider our dear crazy weather at all. I will def go there the night before.

Hi guys, I'm new on this site, and I have a question. How does Baylor acknowledge that they've received your applicaitons (primary and sec). I have not heard anything from them yet.
Also, what is the better way to contact them, by phone or email.

Thanks

I know that other people have answered your question, but just wanted to emphasize that you should definitely stay in town the night before. Your interview day is pretty long as it is (at bit tiring by the end of it), and you're going to have to pay attention to a lot of presentations. You also want to be at your best mentally for your actual interview. Good luck!

Hey! Welcome! 🙂

I actually e-mailed Baylor about this when my application was first verified because I had received emails from both SA and Houston... so, here's their response 🙂

"Yes we are in the process of reviewing your application. Since TMDSAS sends emails to applicants when they transmit your application to the dental school, we do not send an email stating the same thing."

Hope this helps!

I guess I'll just wait. I know I submitted just before the deadline so I have no other options except to wait... thanks again for your reply...

It is not clear why Baylor has been bucking the national trend in terms of percentage enrollees with bio backgrounds but one does wonder if the attrition rate they have been experiencing has anything to do with seeking applicants with upper level bio courses.

So are you saying the Baylor has the highest attrition rate as compared the other 3 dental schools? Those statistics would be interesting to see. Do you have those?
